So there is now a "Play edition" of Labs on, you guessed it, the Google Play store. Check that out
here.
To preemptively answer the inevitable questions that will pop up regarding the differences between this version of the app and the one linked here, here's a mini-FAQ.
Q. What is the difference between Labs and that app?
All Labs UI options (Apps/Xposed/etc) are hidden. They're not removed, they're just hidden.
Q. So it's a stripped down version of Labs?
No. It's the exact same except the Labs part is hidden. It consumes the same memory/resources as if you launched the Forums part of Labs and never opened the Labs part.
Q. If I'm some forums user that hates the Labs part, should I use this play edition?
That's up to you, BUT the version on Play has ads. If you have an ad blocker on your phone you will see an advertisement to upgrade to the full version of Labs on
every single thread page. The ads aren't to make money, they're more of an incentive to install the full version.
Q. Why even have this Play edition then??
Because people still download Tapatalk and this provides a bridge to help get people on Labs.
Q. Are you gonna add the ability to hide Labs in the full version?
Not sure yet. Personally I'm against it because it defeats the whole purpose of Labs but users want choice and I love giving users choices!
I'll have an update soon about what's happening currently regarding development. I know I've been scarcely seen lately but I'll be following it more actively again. Thanks to all you beautiful people who answered questions and reported issues, the ones I've seen are being looked into.
