I just bougth a Car Charger for the xda, hoping that it works like you said (Phone should go to "free speaking"), but it did not.
So, i openend the connector seeing that only Pins 2, and 22 are connected.
I changed it to connect Pins 22 & 19 to the + 6V wire (in fact only 5.7 Volt)
and the Black one to Pins 15 and 17 ( it was a bit easier to solder). Its still not working.
Did anyone get it ever to work ? Are there different Versions of the
little one on the market ?

Hi,
Try connecting GND to pin19 (CAR_ON), instead of +6v. It works for me.
Pin16:GND (Ground / chassis)
Pin17:GND (Ground / chassis)
Pin18:GND (Ground / chassis)
Pin19:CAR_ON
Pin20:V_ADP (+5 volts DC)
Pin21:V_ADP (+5 volts DC)
Pin22:V_ADP (+5 volts DC)

I found that dropping PIN 19 to ground turns off the internal Mic and speaker, I was unable to get the system to simply turn on Speaker Phone automatically, any ideas?

It worked for me when I tied CAR_ON high, but I understand from the above that this may not be the case for everyone.

Iam Just back to the problem again.
It seems that it need just a short pulse to GND on Pin19
to switch on the internal speaker. The speaker stays on
even with pin19 open than.
So i think it need a little bit more than just a few wires.
On the other hand, i got already Car-Kits for a nokia 2110 !
and a nokia 6110. Something othe than buying the third car-kit
for 199,00 $ should be possible.
So i keep trying

I had the same problem, wiring pin19 to +6v would not turn on speaker mode during a call
However, if during a call, having pin 19 at +6v and then sending a short pulse to GND the XDA goes into speaker mode. If instead of sending just a short pulse I keep it to GND permanently (although at the begining of the call it was at +6v, I get the speaker phone icon but no sound comes out of the speaker.
So as you said a bit more than wiring is needed, I will try to trigger the short pulse when pin 12 (on call) is activated.
