My XDA decide not to charge anymore so with what was left of the battery I made a full backup using Active Sync and off it went to the O2 service center.

When it came back, they had supplied a brand new unit :D as mine apparently got 'damaged in transit'.

Happy at the thought of not having a case suffing from scratches from the original o2 holster off I went to restore the data.

When I tried the restore it wouldn't work  saying that the XDA was a different type of PDA altogether. I also tried deleting and recreating the partnership and giving the XDA the same name as it had previously but still no joy. I've even tried using a HEX editor on the backup file based on the info. here, http://tips.pocketnow.com/detailed.cgi?db=tips&id=47 but the info. doesn't match the file content.

If nothing else, is it possible to get the database files back - SMS etc using some manual method?

To cap it all, 2 months ago I installed Tom Tom Nav 2 on an Ipaq and my XDA and because of their registration method and because I've got a new unit with a different ID I have to wait another 4 months before I can do it again!!!

Thanks

just connect as guest and make sure you give your new XDA same name and international settings (timzone etc. etc.). Worked for me when I had exact the same problem.

Good luck!
