Has anyone tried the XDA Manipulator on an SX56 after updating the ROM to (SX56 Handest Software Ver. A.20.17) off the my siemens website?

Also, if I was to unlock the SIM previous to the ROM upgrade: Would it cause it to not upgrade, or possibaly reset the SIMLOCK?

You can install the Special Edition ROM over any other ROM: it completely replaces the entire 32 MB of your device's ROM. Only the radio software (the RSU), which resides in it's own 4 MB of ROM, remains.

Unlocked phones will never lock themselves, no matter if you change ROMs. (And even if it would, the Special Edition ROM would just prompt you to ask if it could take it off again... :)
