Sorry about this being a non-XDA post but... I'm currently working on building a special rom for the Toshiba e335 and was wondering if anyone else is working on roms for their non-XDA PDA's (specifically for the Toshiba e330/e335.) I seem to have a usable rom but I just can't figure out how to flash the new rom. Anyway, here's what I've done:
1. I essentially followed the "Back Up Your Current Rom" section here (http://www.pc-counselor.8m.com/e740ROM.htm) and got the rom for my e335.
2. I took a look at the rom and extracted all the file using this little prog dumprom (http://www.xs4all.nl/~itsme/projects/xda/dumprom.exe). This wasn't necessary but I thought it was cool none the less.
3. I downloaded and installed the mkrom.zip (http://xda-developers.com/mkrom/mkrom.zip) file from the xda-developers site and used the splitrom script to cleave off the bootloader.
4. I took the original image and followed the site from '1.' to cleave off the bootloader and extra space by following the section labled "Prune and Restore your ROM". It looks like the bootloader goes from 0000 0000 to 0003 FFFF and the empty space goes from 01C0 0000 to the end of the file.
Note: The pruned file sizes in step 3 and 4 varied by about 100Bytes if the extra space was left in step 4.
5. I tried to take the newly made images (in NB0 format) and flash my e335 using the e740 way (ie from SD card, while holding the Task and Home buttons while doing a reset) but the PPC just looked for something (it was too quick to read) for a second and then hard reset.
It seems that all the tools are there to make this work but I guess I don't know what to do with the image once I get it. If I knew the proper way of flashing the e335 then I could conclude that my rom image was improperly made. I figure that flashing the e335 with a standard image is better than trying to build my own and then flashing that.
Anyway, if anyone has any ideas let me know.
Thanks for tolerating a non-XDA user!
