Unfortunately, having had the xda for a few months I've come to this conclusion.... you cant have small with this kind of device!

Normal hand held use
I got cramp in my hand using the Sony Erricsson for 20 minutes. This was mainly due to its smaller size, otherwise its a good device. Again I wouldnt want to write a story on it for 2 hours like I did waiting in a car-park the other day on the xda

GPS Navigation
Consequently the xda screen-size is also perfect for GPS use in the car, again, with a smaller screen I wouldnt like using it in that application either.

The only possible way it could be improved size wise is with two screens, in a fold out flip-phone configuration, with the same overall screen size as now, but it would be a pain for GPS.

Basically, If you want a tiny phone, this isnt for you. If you want a device that is highly versatile, ergonomic which just happens to also be a phone, (e.g. as a secondary function) a pocket pc xda / xda2 is excellent.

Groan,.... when are mobile manufacturers going to realise that the xda's user demographic already own decent digital cameras. :(

The effect of this will be you never use it, unless you're out minus digital camera and see a ufo.
lets face it a ufo would have to be pretty close at 640x480 to make it worth taking a picture of!

Wouldnt it be better to not bother with a built in camera until streaming video calls become affordable/technically available.

It doesn't like a phone anymore......
I'm afraid the signal will not be as good as the old XDA..

The camera's a reason for me NOT TO BUY an XDAII: In the industry I'm in, camera phones are banned for reasons of espionage. Manufacturers should keep in mind that this applies to many other businesses as well. The time will come when we have to go back to old fashioned wired phones on our desks because no wireless device will be available without a camera.

... it would really hurt to buy a new device and immediately treat the camera with a nail and hammer! :(

That's really stupid. If you can't be trusted to begin with, you could very well sneak in a mini digital camera anyway. Idiots.

Automobiles?

Yeah, I was thinking about this. What employers should do is the following:

You can get these high-tech stickers which are impossible to remove without damage, complete with custom holograms if needed. If they covered your camera with one of those, they could be happy knowing you could not have snapped pictures if that sticker was still intact, and you could remove it for vacations (just have security stick on a new one when you get back) or when you left the company.

Or they should give everyone a DECT or other cordless phone for use on the premises, and you could just 'forward in case of unreachable' to that number and turn off your phone and put it in a locker outside the security perimeter when you arrive. And then if they forward after 5 rings from the company extension to your mobile, they can always reach everyone at their extensions, and get least-cost benefit if people happen to be in.

BTW, you're still lucky: People that work in intelligence cannot have any off-the-shelf wireless stuff for reasons of general (and warranted) paranoia, and because wireless gadgets compromise the cryptographic keys of any comsec equipment they come to close to.

See the link for high quality pictures http://www.ppcw.net/index.php?itemid=1507 . I also have to confirm XDA II supports Compact Flash cards, through the extension pack and it supports SD/MMC cards through the built-in slot. In other words: expansion possibilities of this Pocket PC phone will be big! (quote from http://msmobiles.com/news.php/1317.html)

Looks like a worked over HTC XDA.... I wonder if HTC is building it for Audiovox? Hope so. I havn't been to fond of their products.

The GPS functionality is a major plus to me... I have been waiting for someone to buck up and add it into a phone ( and have it user accessible, i.e E911 dosn't count :( )

Good Job....

It actually is a HTC XDA. I has already been seen by the end of 2002 on the FCC license pages (see this link (https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/cf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&calledFromFrame=N&application_id=186727&fcc_id='NM8FALCON')) and is codenamed the HTC FALCON. However nothing has been seen of it until now. Nice to see a branded device now...

That implies that this is an older device than the new XDA/MDAII. Thats too bad, having verizon as a carrier is stinks as well. Their data access rates are much more expensive than Tmo's.

Why does there always have to be a trade off. Oh well.

anyways, for what I've see, the Falcon XDA will have its 5 min. of glory, since the XDA II or any flavors of it will not show up in USA until problably later on next year, I haven't heard any news on the device to be brought to USA, the only company that problably will be the first to show it here in USA is T-mobile (I'm crossing my fingers on this) and I'm betting until is already a best seller on Europe later on the year 2004.

I guess the question is... BlueTooth or GPS? Honestly, I think I'd choose bluetooth... but since both are available as options anyway, I'm sticking with the XDA II

Wait... I take that back... that isn't a GSM phone... I'd take the XDA II no contest.
