First of all: thanks to netkim for upoading!!!

On my FTP you will find:
- mtty-new.exe (to upload the BIN files, BUT I suggest use the OSIMAGETOOL from xda-developers)
- SN40011wwe_AWS.zip (BIN file of 4.00.11 without the T-Mobile utilities)
- SN40016wwe_VS.zip (BIN file of 4.00.16 WITH the T-Mobile utilities)

Since it is easy to remove the utilities I suggest the 4.00.16 version: (which is already on my XDA :))

1. Remove the Batterry monitor link from windows\startup
2. Disable the T-Mobile Today plugin
3. Remove program files\aim (If you like MSN :))
4. Remove program files\tmobile

Is there any differences compare to the previous version?

Thanks a much!

Yuo are writting that it is easy to remove T-Mobile utilities. How do you mean that? Removing StartUp links to disable starting these utilities? Or you know how to free ROM space used by these utilities?

Does this version have the same faults like 4.00.10, i.e. no ability to upgrade/downgrade the ROM anymore via acticesync/cradle?

valheru

Looks like it not an .exe installation so you should be fine. You shouldn't be doing an .exe upgrade anyway.

Aurora13, does this version still mask the "G" notification icon?

valheru
20th August 2003, 02:52 PM
Anyone else want to host these? The listed FTP is full. I could but don't have them yet.

Aurora13

Yep busy FTP :)
5 users max with 45 KBps max.

And it still hasn't got the "G".

valheru

Aurora13, are you on the AT&T Network? If not and you use Tmobile, how do they notify you that GPRS is available?

For version .11, I guess this is cooked which is how you removed the utlities?

Do you know if Phonext (option set ring tone) is properly working with version.

@valheru
I'm on the Dutch O2/Telfort network, and normally I got the "G". But not anymore since the .10 rom.

Haven't tested the .11 version and I got both versions I from netkim, so don't know anything about it.

@Goijers
I don't know, because I don't use that function of Phonext.

I got both files and burned 'em. From where I'm sitting, it looks like the 4.00.16 says T-Mobile on the boot screen, but it doesn't seem to have any other T-Mobile features: even the STK.EXE (SIM ToolKit) application appears to be missing (it says so at startup, and the link in Programs is broken.

Was this ROM 'treated' before upload, or is this indeed a broken ROM ?

Aurora13
20th August 2003, 06:07 PM
I don't know, I'm just the guy who host it :)

I installed the .16, but haven't noticed any difference. Toolkit?!? There's no toolkit in it and it didn't give any error about it nor does it have a link in the startup folder.

So that is strange...

Peter Poelman

Something else that is a little weird:

We seem to be getting loads of new versions, but they're all based on the same build of the underlying OS: if you go to settings/system/about you'll see it's always 4.20.1081 build 13100. So whatever the OEMs are doing: MS is certainly not moving fast (or not giving them the latest stuff): you'd expect lots of new builds so soon after a major release.

Did it give you anything T-Mobile specific, other than the boot screen?

You mean like:
- The Battery Monitor
- T-Mobile Today plugin
- Phonebook application

That was the only difference. It is exactly the same as .10 except now it gives .16 :)

Ah... Now it works! Seems like it needed another cold-boot to initialize the filesystem correctly. Strange...

I suspect that nothing more will change in the OS the MS has sent to the OEMs. They've gotten through with their part - the betas we are seeing now are just the OEMs working on their respective add ons & updates & what not.

Thnx for bringing up the issue, XDA Developers Peter Poelman. I've been wondering about this one for a while now, too. With so many ROM versions floating around now, I wonder if the only difference is in the add-on software from the OEMs...

Thanks for putting these files up. I'm having a problem getting the VS file though (the other 2 are fine):

Can you check the permissions?

Probably MS won't move any further build for Windows Mobile 2003 than the existing build 13100 (it is the RTM version for WM2003). If you see any latest build than 13100, it should be consider the WM2003 SP1 (well well, I don't think they will release it this year, cuz it add some cool feature).
The 4.00.xx is the OEM made version (nothing related to MS anymore), I don't know much what is new in the .16 than the previous .10, but I heard that they have some enhancement in the radio compatiblility. Yes, I don't see the "G" fixed yet in this version. What I know is that 6.24 is still the latest radio.

GregP74
21st August 2003, 03:32 AM
Ok, I downloaded the new ROM but I haven't yet installed anything.

What's the scoop on this one? No new radio stack? What's the best way to do the install?

mdavidm
21st August 2003, 05:56 AM
I have had the new 4.00.16 installed for the last twelve hours or so, and it does seem a little more stable. I was having intermittent backlight issues and occassional lockups, but none of that has occurred since the upgrade. The only noticable change is that processing speed seems to have improved rather noticably. I'm sure that is due at least in small part to reloading software from scratch, but this version does seem to be more efficient.

To install, I used the new XDAtools program to copy the .bin file to the SD card in my xda, and then used the bootloader without incident. The radio remains unchanged.

I did. So I assume I write the bin file to a sd card and use the bootloader?

Aurora13
21st August 2003, 08:52 AM
If you use the OSIMAGETOOL, there are multiple ways to do it. But I think the best way is the bootloader way.

hi all!

update is running well here on my mda. gprs works as well.

i'm happy with that. nethertheless i would love to have a GERMAN version of that available .... it's hard to work with that english keyboard and the english spellchecker became useless.

but another question: i couldn't manage to get rid of those t-mobile "tools". the battery meter is ok...

but this stupid "T" sign and the phonebook tool really p***es me off. i don't know the names of these programs so i could search the registry for them.

any way to get rid of them (i tried to remove them as described in the very first posting of this thread but no sucess)

thanks!

Aurora13

I think they are related with the Battery Monitor tool. Try removing the Battery Monitor link from the Startup folder to another folder. Then reboot, if the icons dissapear you know what it is.

@Aurora13

hehe. yep you're right. :)

never tried to remove that link in startup because that's the only program i find usefull in any way. ;)

by removing the "battery" link in "start-up" all the other stuff was gone as well. thanks for your fast reply and help.

Woohooo I am all upgraded to the 4.00.16! I don't seem to see any changes, but it might be a little bit snappier.

I haven't had time yet to see if GPRS is any quicker or anything, but I am doubting it, since the radio stack is unchanged.

I've noticed a lot of recuring questions in posts all over the board on this subject. Here's what a little sluthing has lead me to belive. I'm almost sure that WMODEM was created by O2. This is why you do not see it in ROM images right now because most of these Images are (source) US based (with the exception of the first few) You might see the next instance of this app apear first in O2 final release ROM if they decide to include it. Not likely it will appear any where else, or at this rate at all... :(

So, is it possible to copy over wmodem and it will work, or does the current version not run on the latest 2003 builds? If it does work, where can one get a copy of wmodem?

Check the threads I belive I read some mention of this but think there was only limmited success. I think they said all was fine until they tried the IR port. So maybe via cable would work? I'm totally guessing. Ask around and have a go at it, let us all know if you work some magic 8) I have a feeling that since the CE kernal is diff now that the way it thinks in regards to AT comands will require a rebuild of WINMODM, just a guess. :?

I was wondering if the 4.00.16 Rom in Jeffs Kitchen can be downloaded unmodified in any way. Secondly, I know you guys don't like the idea of the Action Engine and have removed it from the PocketPC. Is it possible to optionally remove it?

I would like to make my own Rom, but I want everything to be there. I just want to add my own programs instead of removing anything there if possible.

Thirdly, how does MKRom know where to put everything when you have a newer version of the Rom? The way I see it, you guys are placing programs in the "empty" regions of the Rom.

Just click the 'Original O2 AutoConfig data' radiobutton. It says right there...

We have to manually tell mkrom where the empty bits are with each new ROM version we put in the kitchen...

Ah, I see, you want to run it on 4.x. The 4.x ROMs (WM2003) never came with the Active Engine framework, and the space left in the 4.x ROMs would probably not support it anymore (it may just barely fit, one would have to try).
