Has anyone seen a photo of the base connector for the new XDA, it would be kind of nice if it fits my existing car kit ( Not much chance of that) :(
Can anyone help
Thank you

I am very sure that the Xda II will use a different carkit to the existing Xda - someone at O2 told me this.
I am in a similar situation - I think I will try to sell my Xda carkit now!

Hi
I do nit have a car Kit but I suspect as the XDA II has and SDIO slot and the XDA does not, then whilst they may 'fit' they may not function correctly.
Cheers

Is that going to be the same for other accessories? E,g GPS, keyboard etc?

If the socket is the same then maybe there is a possibility of a rewire to match up the io interface.

The XDA II works fine in an XDA Full Carkit with the following exceptions:
The phone does not automatically switch on when you insert it into the cradle (the XDA did).
The phone is a slightly tighter fit in the cradle (its thicker) but still fits fine. The top clip of the cradle does not come all the way down but rests on the top of the XDAII, which is also fine.
I use it daily and have no problems.
As a point, all my XDA peripherals work with my XDA II including my Foldable Keyboard.

I can second this.......just received my MDA II and everything works fine with the carkit: Handsfree phone, GPS, Power.......
It is a bit tight, but I heated up the bottom of the carkit with a blower till it became soft and then put in the MDA II and let it cool down. Now it is quite workable without having to buy a new carkit........ :P

xda II car kit has plugin for gps devices, so is slightly different. Got this from the blurb on www.o2.co.uk/xda
Carkit
To use your device in the car - or truck - you need to install a fully wired and properly mounted carkit, as mandated by recent UK Legislation.
These units are not provided with aerial kits - these are separately provided by the carkit installer and are appropriate to your vehicle.
These carkit's are especially designed to fit Xda and Xda II respectively, and is built to integrate with most modern car connectors. In addition, the Xda II carkit supports direct connection of a GPS unit - such as that provide by TomTom Navigator - allowing you to use Xda as a navigation system.

We have not seen ANY existing XDA II carkits yet, so we cannot judge to soon.
At the moment all the photo's referring to the carkit from the providers are the XDA I carkit.
This carkit always had the GPS external connection, I have been using it for almost a year now with TomTom and a Holux GM 210 mouse. I have cut the XDA connector and connected the appropriate wires to the GPS mouse......works like a charm, also with the New MDA II.
Look at my review I wrote almost a year ago (It's in Dutch, but you can throw a webtranslator over it if you want to):

I tested Parrot CK-3000 Works well with XDA II
Hi
I am thinking about buying a CK3000 but was worried that there may be a Bluetooth compatibility issue (like there is with some Bluetooth GPS systems at the moment Tom Tom + Navman apparently). Is your CK3000 working fully with the XDA 11 via Bluetooth as a Handsfree System i.e. sound through your car speakers, mute the stereo when a call comes in etc? Do you know of a supplier who will also install/configure it?
What else would I need besides the CK3000 - A XDA 11 Passive Holder and a Cigar lighter Charger?
Any help advice you can give me is very much appreciated.

The parrot CK3000 has a Handsfree and a headset profile.
The XDA/MDA 2 only has a headset profile.
So as long as the carkit has a headsetprofile also, it will work...

Why not use the XDA II with the speaker phone enabled ??

Have you tried it ?
it's hard to quickly enable, and it's not loud enough...

I immediately tried my xda car charger in my xda II and it fits and seems to work in that the orange charging light comes on.
But could I be doing some damage that I am unaware of? (Incidentally some people refer to a cradle: my car charger is not a cradle...)

Has anyone found a car cradle for the XDA II (hardwired not BT). I have searched several sites an I cannot find anything. Surely there must be enough users for a company to warrant the development

The only cradle I have found is a brodit passive holder, has no power but is ok for what I want it for. It enables me to plug my Holux GM-210 satnav into the serial port.

Am I right to say that a TomTom Navigator car kit for XDA I will:
1. Power the XDA II
2. Will NOT power/work with the TOMTOM GPS
3. Will need heating to allow the XDA II to slide in.

I have a Tom Tom Car kit and the only problem was the size of the shell
I have hit it up with an hair drier and the XDA II enter in nicely!
To make the insersion smooth I have filed slitly the connector to make it thinner and it is perfect

My Parrot CK3000 works just fine may I suggest you speak to parrot they are really helpfull . Maybe you do not have the latest software in the Parrot. Parrots tel no is 0033 148036069
By the way a good lump of velcro on the back of the XDA II holds it just fine in the car.

I was having all kinds of problems trying to get my CK3000 to work reliably with my XDAII, all to no avail. It would pair, and it would usually initiate a call, but the answer and hangup buttons were completely non responsive. It would not work with incoming calls at all, so it was basically worthless.
I tried upgrading to the version 3.11 firmware, with no improvement. However, Parrot has recently released a version 3.12 firmware. This firmware release is available on their website (www.driveblue.com). After flashing the new firmware, the CK3000 works like a champ, albiet in headset profile. I have not been able to do extensive testing, but it appears from posts on their user forum that Parrot had targetted this update to the XDA II and with good results. Now, if we can get a handsfree profile we should all be in business.

Whats the difference between HandsFree and Headset!

Whats the difference between HandsFree and Headset!
Headsetprofile only does audio when you're on the phone...
It's allows you to answer, reject and disconnect a phonecall.
And that's about it.
Handsfree does a number of things more; always audio hence voicedailing (and Tomtom and MP3 !!) , calling number (display, speak), phonebook sync.
Did i forget anything ?

The other thing that I have found is that the carkit does not charge the XDA II (neither does the USB cable I bought - Damn their eyes!!!)
I have just ripped out the old car kit and fitted a Nokia CK-1W bluetooth kit based on the fact that O2 engineers themselves have had this combination working (I have heard of at least 4 people that have had a successful pair) however my XDA II bonds but does not connect to the carkit.
Any ideas?

FYI (For Your Information)
A: The XDA (1) Carkit works fine with the XDA2 and MDA2 if you use longer screws for the connector and the clip-holder.
BUT the Voltageregulator is not strong enough to load the device if it is on or you're useing an GPS-System (Holux-Serial GM2xx) with TomTom 2.24. ~.
B: With the new ROM-Version 1.60... There is an option for the future for profils between Radio & MDA (MP3) Sound.
In the old ROM-Version the audio-signals will broadcast on both channels. Now only on one.
C: The german default.TSK is defect and the the startmenue change to the white TEXT-color with no return.
You can change this if you do Reg. HKLM/SOFT../Mic../Color Key 39 with value 0 put in.
D: If the Main-Memory or resources are low the 2003 OS close Applications or hang.
E: If you use Intel USB 8...BAM/BA Chipset eith AS please switch off powersavings
F: SW Pocketinformant, PI Journal, Adobe AcrobarReader, Total Commander, TomTom 2.24 & GPS2.09, MobiMate, Vxtools, Stoptime,
HW Sandisk WiFi, Panasonic 512MB, Serial & USB Kabel, FSE from O2, ....
G: Plase remove the **flash for /windows/autostart to the device runs mutch more stable.
H: The Nokia BT HeadSet do not work - beware of the old BT-Profile "Handsfree" - it switch off after 7 minutes.
The Plantronics M3000 works fine - but no vioce-dailing possible it this time.
FAQ
1. If I use TomTomNavigation and a call come in or get out the serial-Port COM1 will block after hang up.
I only exit TTN and restart it & everything works fine.
It works fine if I use BT for GPS-connection.
2. After the ROM-Update to 1.60 the BT - LED sometimes falshes - without any reason in BT-Off-mode
3. TTN overide a part of memory from 2003 OS so in some menues (BT) there are no ticks to use.
4. After the ROM ... - The FileExplore hangs after make/remove directory/file operation - you can kick it out.
TotalCommader works fine.
I have 3 MDA2 on two it is wrong and on one it works fine.
I haver do an Hardrest without an success.
Cloud everyone help me for FAQ 1 to 4
Best Regardes & sorry for this bad english.

Im thinking of wiring up a cable from the bottom connector. This will have have power, link to my eTrex GPS, hopefully audio out to the 3.5mm input on the stereo, a mic in.
The idea being, have the XDA2 mounted in car, use it for navigation, play MP3's from it through the stereo, when I want to make a call the external mic will pic up voice, the received audio will then be routed through the stereo too.
Does anyone know if this is possible.
