The XDA screen struggled in daylight, I hope that this is improved. The brightness on some iPaq's is meant to be 'blinding', any news on the XDA II...

Good to see the now normal 64k colour screen. This shall go a long way in clearing up things. Using downloaded themes from the internet was touch and go. I ended up using a Monsters Inc cartoon theme as anything with people in it was just laughable!

I have sold my XDA, after nearly 14 months I have moved on. I am now using a S-E T610. This is a mobile phone, something that the XDA struggled with in my opinion. I look forward to see what happens in the new year... This will determine whether I buy an iPaq 2210 (£300 on http://www.ebuyer.com) or the XDA II tba £500+ . . .

I got a MDA II for testing (only a few days  )

I have a MDA and what could i say

The difference is like night an day!!

The Display is bright clear and "sharper"

The thing i didn“t managed is to get in bootloader Mode :x
The MDA way is doing a cold reset on a MDA II
Are there Infos around to get in Wallaby Mode.
In that case there is a chance that i could share
the ROM Image for the public

I gotta agree with gazzaman2k.

I work part time in a UK phone shop and we have had more T610s returned than any other current phone. Not for technical reasons but because of complaints that they simply can't see the screen in sunlight.

A shame because apart from that the T610 is a fantastic phone.

Cheers, Shire

All Color LCD (back light style, all PDA and phones) is not easy to read under sunshine!
the old non-color phone is very clear under sunshine!

Walking down street today tring to ring somebody on my T610. I went and hid in the shadows of a nearby door way trying to see the daft thing.

Maybe in the future something can be done? My old Siemens c35i is sat in the draw maybe I should get that back out for use in the summer!!

From what I have seen of Palm screens in daylight, they should all be returned. I have an ipaq and xda and also an Axim x5, I like the xda screen, only problem is we cant do much about the backlight intensity except off/on, can this be hacked or is it hardware limited?

there was a link somewhere on this site that took you to an ipaq hack site. I followed the reg hack, and was presented with the brightness tab. I adjusted this to see what would happen. Nothing, the settings had no effect. Except at either extreem where it was either off or on.

So it must be a hardware limitation, as a software hack did not help.

My XDA II broke, and I bough MDA II.

The maximum screen brightness on the MDA II is much lower than on the XDA II.

I've opened them both up.

They are diferent from the inside!

Images os the two devices attached, MDA on the left, XDA on the right.

Their screens are different!

Even some memory chips seem to be different!

It's impossible to swich their screens or motherboards.

It seems that MDA II is an older version of the XDA, with an older, much darker screen.

Himalayas got 2 types of display - old and new connector.
Check serial number , it should be something like this S/N HTxxxxxxxxxx.
Devices with number lower than HT419 got old display, with higher than HT419 got new display.
