thursday of last week (oct. 9. 2003), my msn messenger stopped working. when i try logging in, i'm told 'login failed because the service is not responding'. up until this point, it had worked perfectly. a week before it stopped working, i started getting messages from msn that a new security update was available. i installed this update AFTER messenger stopped working, in an attempt to get it back (no luck). i've tried downgrading to 3.16 without success. i'm now back on 4.16. my radio-stack is t-mobile 6.24. no changes were made to the phone when messender suddenly stopped working.
also, i use the node wap.voicestream.com (i was never able to get internet2.voicestream.com or internet3.voicestream.com to work). finally, i have this problem when both connected through gprs AND cradle.

anybody with same problem / a solution?

Try using wap.voicestream.com as your AP.

hi qman,

i'm currently using wap.voicestream.com... it's the only node i can connect to. it's still not letting me log into msn messenger, though... i haven't tried aol im, but expect i would have the same problem as david...

david, what version radiostack/os are you running?

Well at first I was using the one created by this site (XDA developers Special Edition ROM v1.2) and it was working fine, but it stopped working, so I upgraded to the Tmobile 4.0.16 from Jeff's kitchen, but same problem

David, are you in the Atlanta area? Trying to decide whether this is phone or location specific.

Also, are you running the standard radio stack from t-mobile? i've upgraded mine to 6.24, but don't think that has anything to do with messenger not working.

finally, do you know which node you're using for connecting with gprs?

Bin where are you located?
As of today (10/15/03 the magic date) its taking a mighty long time to login with the wap.voicestream.com AP. :( Oh well I guess its back to internet2 for now for MSNM usage.

BTW I'm running AT&T radio stack A.20.10, T-Mobile network.

Qman,

I'm in Atlanta -- where are you? Two of my friends in this area have the same phone -- one can connect to messenger fine, while the other can't.

can you connect to messenger with internet2? my sim card hasn't been authorized on any other node other than wap.voicestream.com, so i might have to call tmobile tomorrow and have them open up internet2/internet3 for me.

except for messenger, all gprs seems to work perfectly normal (bandwidth etc.)

I'm in Las Vegas, NV and yes I'm able to connect to messenger with internet2.voicestream just fine, wap.voicestream is just faster overall.

i finally got it resolved -- apparently my tmobile subscription was for t-zones (10$ per month), which they apparently last week decided should not include any of the messenger services, and therefore shut them off. up until that point, everything had worked perfectly with the wap.voicestream.com node. today, all internet features except for msn messenger and aol im works with that node.

i had to upgrade to tmobile internet (10$ more per month), to be able to regain access to these services (now i connect through internet2.voicestream.com)

I cant get on msn messenger and call T-mo, they told me that msn messenger service is no longer a part of T-mo's service. Can someone verify this. And what's the difference between internet2.voicestream.com and internet3.voicestream.com the rep i talked to seemed reluctant to open up internet3.voicestream.com. I've just purchased the PPC for $100 and also have the data plan for 19.95/mo. What's next best thing I could to do this new found joy of mine ? Thanks in advance.

hi nutz -- check out http://msmobiles.com/news.php/1231.html. it maybe can offer some clues. the article deals with a required update to messenger that, if not installed, disables your messenger after oct 16...

i'm on internet2 right now, and messenger works like a charm...

My msn messenger stopped working on AT&T and I had just run accross the msn messenger update for pocket pc and now my device works fine. it may not have been the AP. I would try that before you start switching AP's.

All,

I had the same issue - After an extensive trawl through the Microsoft Site for PPC there are 2 updates available for MSN Messanger - PPC2002 and WM2003. I applied them and Messanger works fine now.

I have forgotton the website links but will email the files on request. Please state PPC or WM versions

I had the same problems with AIM and Messenger and then found out that MS had changed the login and authentication methods due to a " security vulnerability"

You can download the update here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/resources/msnmessenger/default.mspx

PS: This resolved my problems. Make sure you download the Pocket PC phone edition for your device ( ie: PPC 2002 or WM 2003) They are different!
