Now that the XDA II is to sale, I hope it will be possible very soon to unlock it  , a friend will bought one for me in UK , and I need to have it simfree ...to use it, unless that, it will be a PPC Phone Edition, with no phone ! :(

Hi,

Thanks,

Hi, do you have the number? I checked in 3 shops and they claimed no unlocking options for 12 months... :?

Kyri

Called O2 and they said they would unlock it... however they didnt give me an unlocking code... they said they will take care of things for me.
Can they do it from their side? I thought I was suppose to enter some code to unlock the device or at least thats what I have done in the past with an Ericsson phone I had...
Can someone help? dont want them charging me for nothing...

Or run SimLock.exe (hidden file in Windows directory)

Out of interest, what was your unlock code?

No luck... O2 wont unlock because its a new contract... Didnt like their attitude might take the phone back tomorrow...

Mine is a new contract & "Darren" in Warrington definately said to me that they would unlock on payment of £15 and my whole year's contract in advance. He checked with his manager & that was confirmed.

Ring 'em back. They are being totally inconsistent.

my xda is on a three month old contract and they gave me the unlock code without any fuss

When I bought my XDA 1 I paid O2 £15 to unlatch it so I could use it on any network. So when I upgraded (over the phone with O2) to the XDA2 I told them I wanted that unlatched too.

No problem, they said, just call customer services when it arrives.
After being given many different stories by O2 they finally gave me the unlatching code.
The problem is that when I entered it the phone rejected it every time although O2 checked the IMEI number several times.

Finally they tell me that they have an arrangement with HTC (The manufacturers) not to allow the unlatching of the XDA2 to any network other than O2!!!

It would have been nice if O2 staff had been advised of that and not told me there would be no problem and then given me a code that doesn't work!!

I have sold my XDA 1 and bought accessories for the XDA 2 so I am now out of pocket and fully intend writing to O2 claiming I have been mis-sold. That is, unless anyone out there knows how to unlock the phone so the unlatching code works ??

I shall persevere with hassling O2 until I get it unlocked though I cannot see how any of you out there have managed this when O2 staff have so adamantly informed me that they simply cannot and will not be unlocking the XDA2 for any but O2 network until next year!! :x :x

it may be that the staff who i spoke to were not aware of this policy and just treated like any other handset...i am not even using my o2 sim card but using it on t-mobile and vodaphone.

Please, xda-developers , can you find a way to desimlock XDA II ???
I was suppose to receive my unlock code , paying 15£ to O2 , and 650 £ full price with no contract ; IMEI and bill have been sent by O2 store to the Central stuff, but now, they said , no more unlock !!!

So that means, as I leave in France, that I can use my XDA II only like normal PPC and not PPC Phone  , and that I will have to buy a phone !!!

Simlock.exe is the program that runs when you have a SIM inserted that is not belonging to O2 - asks you for the unlock code.

Alternatively can be run as standalone exe for the same purpose.

rustek/tenzin

They cannot legally NOT allow you to unlock the phone if you request it. It is against OFTEL regulations in this country. If they persist, just mention that to them, further non-cooperation, ring OFTEL and get them to intervene - the "watchdog" is there for our benefit.

Tenzin, did you try the Oftel route?

If it works that would be great then i'll be down to the shops to snap up an XDAII. I want to use my phone on orange. I'm willing to pay of the year line rental but not @ £35 a month for 12 months... after 4 months i want to drop it to their £16 tariff.

phonefreak

you can buy it on their lowest line rental of £15...or just buy another handset and just upgrade to the xda 2 straight away (as i did) without paying any premium

I got my xda2 thru the Link (DSG). ON the Biz tarriff £9 / month The xda2 only cost me £200 and eventually got unlocked for free. It took me a week of hasseling o2 and Genisis but got it done in the end. My advice to you all is Keep trying don't let them stop you getting your XDA2 unlocked. It's your right as a consumer to put whateven sim you want in!! It's your phone damn it!

eeeer don't want to get the manager in trouble but it was in Manchester Market Street Branch (Craig). should have been £300 but reduced it to £200 You can get the Genesis Biz tarriff for £9/month no free minutes. So... you can get it unlocked and use whatever. Got the Jabra BT200 for £35 with it but had no joy with it. The Link don't stock XDA2's they are special order only so you wait a week for one. But hey you save some money there! O2 shops say they will price match but it needs to be in stock at the competitors shop to do that.

Best of luck!

I'm absolutely amazed by some of the deals you guys are getting. Can anyone please provide any links to details, particularly xdaer with 'Genesis'? I got mine from the o2 shop in Manchester city centre (Cross Street) for £350(!!) as an upgrade on the xda 1. Yes I'm completely ignorant of what deals are out there, but they really don't do you any favours do they?

TIA guys.

Hi guys,
here in Italy we usually sell Phone unlocked... I don't know whether this information could be usefull to you in some way... or not.
Anyway... we have prices problems... our prices are way to far higher than the UK ones...
As far as I am concerned I'm looking for the XDA 2 in the UK !!!
Is that possible to get an XDA 2 unlocked delivered in Italy ?!?

call o2 and they will unlock xda2 provided you pay the line rental for the full 12 month term.

zoe

o2 will unlock the xda 2 provided the line rental for the full 12 month term is paid, plus £15.00 for the privilege.

I have had this confirmed by more than one source at o2... a good excuse for requiring the unlock is to say the handset is to be used both on o2 in UK and with foreign networks SIM for a few months fo the year.

Just had mine unlocked - told it would cost £15 but no mention of the line rental up front. Didnt wanna post until it I actually had the code incase they changed their mind.

However, I went through staff accounts as my friend works for O2.

i got the bluetooth headset working... I'd stopped o2 active as i don't like the interface, thus stopping the profile display. I didn't realise you had a headset control in the profile settings. I'd much prefer a Developers ROM like the XDA1 just to get rid of all the o2 junk.

I paid the £15 to O2 over 2 weeks ago, but still no unlock code.

I tried the original XDAunlock.exe and it reports an error reading the IMIE number.

Just chased O2 customer services for the unlock code that I paid for 2 weeks ago and have been told the there is a policy of not unlocking an XDA2 and there is NO WAY that they can give me an unlock code!

I too have been trying to unlock my XDA II and thats how I stumbled cross this site.

In my reserach through trawling through the net I have found 2 possible ways of unlocking.

1. Dixons in Heathrow & Gatwick airport sell the XDA II simfree for £590 (not sure if this is dutyfree price). I have encountered 2 people who have purchased phones from them (1 from greece 1 from italy) Dixons have no signs anywhere in their shop saying these phones are locked to O2 but they are. In result of this the people from abroad who bought these phones assumed they were unlocked and found out how wrong they were when their planes touched down. They rang up O2 and explained the situation to them and got the unlock codes (Italian got codes straight away the greek had to put up a bit of a fight but did eventually get the codes) no fees etc. You could try ringing O2 and using the same excuse as them and you might be in luck.

2. If you can't be bothered for that bulls**t try checking out

http://www.unlockaphone.co.uk/o2_xda.htm

Charge £10 = £4 P&P

I haven't tried them yet but I'll let you know if any of these work for me. Please post results if you try any of the above.

do you think that if we flashed the rom with a serial cable from the info at
http://xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3731&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=25

and installed the english rom, do you think it would unlock the phone??

@ xdaer, yup, I'm in Manchester.

I phoned o2 and acted rather sheepish and a whole lot unsure.... I explained how I want to use my xda2 at work with my work's SIM and pop in my o2 SIM for GPRS instead of using my work's access which is through Orange. :D

I said how I bought my xda and did not upgrade, she agreed it was a lot of money, spoke to her manager and now I am due my unlock code :D

I deserve an Oscar for my performance as a n00b, but it was worth it. Now I use my Orange SIM with the Orange GPRS @ £2.35 / MB instead of the o2 GPRS rip off that I cancelled 5 minutes later. Nice.

Did they give you an unlock code there and then, or did you have to wait for it?

If there was a wait, how long?

I was told that it may take up to 30 days?

Cheers

cheeky monkey - an award winning performance indeed only over shadowed by the bull s@@t performances o2 staff give when they say they can't give out the unlock codes to customers who have paid £100's for their piece of kit.
