Just an observation :!: :

The XDA executes a soft reset when the scan passes through COM6, presumably because this is reserved for the internal BT-headset. Once I fixed it to COM7 everything goes well.

COM6 is the Bluetooth controller itself

Dude, I had the same problem but THERE IS A FIX!
Here is the extract from the forum post :

go into the setup menu and then into map datum menu. Your GPS will probably be set up on OS GB (although I could find no indication of which grid it was using). Scroll down to page 9 and highlight the WGS 84 setting then press enter.

To further improve things you can go into the position format under the main menu setting and set it to correspond with that under the GPS settings in Tomtom ie: DDDoMM'SS.S" etc. There is a setting for UTM(WGS84). Not quite sure if this is compatable and haven't experimented as the system is working so well now and if it ain't broke..etc.etc.

Yeeeee Haaaaaw!

Thanks,

I can now sell my old XDA/TomTom kit, and go with the XDA2/BT... Welcome to the new world!

Some users reported a problem with Navigon. It seems to be the only GPS program, which does not work properly with my driver. I'm currently analyzing this problem and will provide a solution in the next days.

Hello

I was very glad to see that some guys are working on the BT problem with the MDA/XDA II. So I installed the resco explorer and did what was mentioned in the forum but then didn't find the MyTry2.zip on the server and therefore used the BluetoothGPS.cab to install the new stack. All right it seems to work but after putting the device off and then on again I always receive the message "couldn't initialize bluetooth"! and then I have to put BT off an on again. What can I do to solve this?

I have the Fortuna GPSmart, I cannot comment on it working with XDA2 but it looks like it works fine with the patch, I think you are getting a reasonable deal. As you may be aware the gpsmart is also a stand alone gps, can be used via bluetooth or wired to many other pda's using available cables, I got a data cable from ebay for £3.75 (mini usb lead) and used a usb lighter attachment to power the unit. It is very sensitive and I have managed to get 3d signal inside my house. I have used it with ipaq 3870, 3970 and also with ipaq 3630 with bluetooth sleeve, no problems of any kind for me.

Here I am, waiting patiently for the my GPS delivery - interestingly getting the Fortuna Clip On instead of the Rikaline so must be the same supplier as Starman - and I've lost the colour from the screen. Gone from supersonic to black and white.

Anyone else had this problem ? Have taken it back to O2 who are sending it for repair - but they seem foxed as well. No dropped unit, water etc etc - it just lost the colour - weird.

Net result is that I won't be able to test the brilliant TOWA fix until I get it back.

BTW - I've now suggested the O2 sales people access this site if they start to get customer complaint about XDA2/Bluetooth connections. If their parent company can't sort things out they'll have to turn to a man who can.

You should be getting some real dosh out of the likes of O2 and T-Mobile for the work you have done TOWA.

A very grateful ..... mg

Starman:
I'm using Fortuna Clip-on which is more precise than the GPSmart, but the same price. And not at last it made by XTRAC-technology what gives you more exact positioning for example between high buldings in a town. Although I think it's an unuseable thing because XTRAC has a delayed positioning which gives not-exactly-correct positioning on a map, because if you turn 90degrees left, it draws an arc of a circle, and it calculates the average of the position points.
But without reference to this I compared that device with the EMTAC bluetooth GPS, and they have practically the same result in the same conditions, but EMTAC has double price.

So, finally I suggest you can buy this Fortuna Clip-on without any doubt.
Have a lucky purchase!

Just wondering if anyone has an idea as to how I can get my bluetooth Navman 4400 connected to my XDA-II (Microsoft stack) - when I try to pair the devices it prompts for a pairing key, but the NavMan doesn't use one.

With the widcomm stack and bt stack on my PPC2002 3970 pairing is painless and doesn't even prompt for a key, but the microsoft doesn't seem to want to proceed with pairing without me entering something, at which point the pairing fails :(

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately it doesn't actually solve my problem...

The microsoft stack will only let me tap in numerical passkeys, while the navman needs alpha characters... the 4400 will either pair if no passkey is entered or if the passkey 'NAVMAN' is used, unfortunately the stack supplied on the xda-ii insists i use some kind of numerical string, the button to proceed is grayed out unless you enter at least one character.

Thanks towa, and good work on your efforts with the bluetooth tools :)

The 4400 doesn't have any pc-linkup though, so I'm not sure how we'd go about changing anything.

If there was a registry entry for the microsoft to allow empty keys to be sent, to enable the alpha characters (it shows the full keyboard but only allows 1-0 to be selected) or just circumvent key entry entirely I'm pretty sure that would fix0r it too :)

Hello Everybody

In fact there is an UPGRADE ready and existing, solving the COM port PROBLEM but not yet PUBLIC,
it is one nice 40 MB RUU file which will uprgade your unit to english language:

Microsoft Pocket PC version 4.20.0 (Build 13252)
ROM version: 1.60.00WWE
ROM date: 12/03/03
Radio version: 1.06.01
Protocol version: 1337.16
ExtROM version: 1.60.06

I have it, and I am willing to share! Please email me for the ftp details.
The most important change is that bluetooth has finally COM ports functionality! and EMTAC or SOCKET Bluetooth GPS works well with it!!
(tested myself). As it is quite new, I may want something in return, like serial number for some applications, but I am looking only for the few ones.

- Enter the control panel (Menu -> Settings) and lauch the GPS settings
- Select as device NMEA 38400 and as port COM4 (the one you have created)
- Activate it and that's all

It if does not work with NMEA you may try SIRF as well.

Some users reported that Medion Navigon doesn't seem to work correctly with my driver.

I analyzed this issue and the reason seems to be that Navigon passes a 256 byte to my driver. The Microsoft stack therefore waits for 256 byte until it returns them to the me. (This behaviour is correct and intended). In the meanwhile Navigon thinks it has lost the connection to the GPS. All other programs use smaller buffers of only up to 8 bytes. I updated my driver to use by default only 8 bytes of the buffer even if it is bigger. (8 bytes is usually the size of the FIFO of real serial port). I did again tests with all known programs and it seems to work now perfectly with Navigon. I also got a positive reply from a beta tester. (I 'm living in Madrid and I have only a demo version with a map of Düsseldorf).
The updated version will be available this evening on both mirrors of my website when I get home.

Tobias

Destinator V2 doesn't seem to talk to the new Serial Port at all - in Destinator V3, the connection seems to poll, and drop out after 4 or 5 chunks of data then drop out all together!!?!?!

Hi all!

I have a question here. The bluetooth option in the new 1.60ROM is now avaliable for COM4 and COM5.
But my problem is the TomTomGPS utility doesn't know the port COM5 just COM1,2,6,9 + infrared + serial on USB.

So, any idea how can I use my BluetoothGPS with TomTom?
(It works with other GPS-prog with COM5)

thx

H Towa,

Thanks for your wonderful job although I don't use any GPS or thing like this, I think people like you are necessary to make things work better.

One question : I must be doing something wrong but I cannot ActiveSync at all using Bluetooth. I tried with and without you're utility and when I click on Connect via Bluetooth, I don't have any dialog box coming up.

I can send and receive files so I know Bluetooth is working.

What can I check to make sure I didn't make anything wrong?

Thanks

Ive read through the thread, but I cant see if loading this new version solves the pairing of devices (cant do it at the moment as the XDA will only allow numeric entry, and the Navman instructions tell you to enter NAVMAN).

I'll try the download later, but would appreciate if anyone could answer this.

Thanks.

Please get the file http://www.angeltowns.com/town/bluetooth/EnableCharPin.zip

- Copy the file EnableCharPin.exe to you PDA
- Start the bonding dialog until you get the password screen
- Now launch the explorer and start the executable (you will get a small message)
- Get back to the password screen (if you don't find it click on the BT icon in the today screen)
- Characters are now enabled

To Gary: I replied to your mail but I get the following error: The destination server for this recipient could not be found in Domain Name Service (DNS). Please let me know if this solution works for you.

I have an XDA II and I am unable to use TomTom 2.24 with my Holux GR 230 Bluetooth GPS. I have already done the following:

Upgraded to TomTom GPS 2.09
Installed the Pocket Bluetooth Tools (and created the Bluetooth com port)
Tried various settings in TomTom GPS as there is not a listing for Holux GR 230.

It seems as though the GPS will communicate with the XDA II, and shows that it picks up satalite signals. When I start TomTom Navigator, the Blue GPS light on the receiver flashes to show that it is transferring data, but TomTom Navigator states GPS position unreliable.

PLEASE PLEASE can someone out there help me. If there is a solution, please explain in basic terms / step-by-step as I am far from an expert on PDAs.

Thanks to anyone out there that can help.

Hi there.
I've just read all the post to connect my EXTECH S2500THS bluetooth printer to the MDA II.
Microsoft stack always asks me a PIN to bound the printer but I don't know the PIN printer nor how to set it (there's no istructions in the manual about the pin). So I can't even use the Towa BT Stack fix because it also asks for a PIN.
So I revert back using the widcomm stack. It works ok (it doesn't need a pin) but there is the problem that every time the MDA goes off the connection is lost and when you switch on again it says "bluetooth could not initialize ..."
So, how to workaround these problems? Is there a way not to be asked for a PIN?
Thank you all.

I'm using exactly the same combination and it works just fine (apart from the crap reception, high latency of the holux!). In TT GPS, select NMEA 9600 (or NMEA Bluetooth) as the source. Is the mapped com port listed?

If that doesn't work, my next fix would be a hard reset!

BTW, you haven't changed any of the holux's internal settings, have you? Like NMEA to SIRF, or a different speed? Because that could explain it.

PS.

I will try again. It has been suggested to run the gps down completely so it resets itself to the factory defaults. Perhaps this will help. Do you still need to use the GPS Viewer that came with the GPS? If you can explain what you have done from start to finish, I will follow steps and you never know... it might finally work.

Thanks for input. Look forward to reply.

The short version: Bought XDA II & HOLUX 230 at the same time but obviously couldn't get it to work as I knew nothing about the XDA II's BT/Serial issues. Tried reconfiguring the HOLUX and locked it up (due to a bug in the firmware). Found out about BT/Serial issues and installed corrective software but still didn't work as HOLUX was out of sync. Rang HOLUX who said that it couldn't be 'fixed' over BT connection and that I would either need a data cable (supplied USB cable is power only) or wait up to a month for HOLUX to go flat. Availability on new cable was at least two weeks so I managed to keep my paws off the HOLUX for about 3-1/2 weeks and then it works again. BINGO!

However, I can drive for 10-15 minutes before I get a lock, IF I get a lock at all. It drops the lock frequently. I can get anything from 2 'gray' sat signals to 6 'red' (locked) signals - it's all over the place. I only drive a clio 172 so I don't think it has a (signal blocking) heat reflective windscreen so I'm confused as the HOLUX seems to have a good rep. I'll have to call them again before I buy something else.

I suggest that if you want to know anything more, PM me rather than us hijacking this thread.

Will this work?

What is Pocket Bluetooth Tools?

http://www.angeltowns.com/town/bluetooth/

Pocket Bluetooth Tools adds the missing Bluetooth functions to the O2 XDA II (or other compatible PDAs like the MDA II).

The current version includes:

Support for the SSP profile (serial port), e.g. for GPS receivers or modems
Support for ActiveSync (synchronization with Outlook and Internet connection)
Switch Bluetooth on and off automatically
The current version 1.60 of the ROM includes already a virtual serial port but unfortunately it is a dynamic port, which is not visible to many applications. Also the ActiveSync support is difficult and complicated to use and if you want to synchronize with different computers you have always to couple the device again.

For future releases I plan the following improvements:

Support for Bluetooth headsets
Support for Bluetooth network access points
Send contacts and files through Bluetooth

I have tried to set up a Navman 4400 BT GPS receiver, but with no success. I cannot even pair the device as the Navman uses an alphabetical Passkey, but the BT Manager (such as it is) will only support numerical Passkeys.
I am in discussion with Navman, but this seems to confirm that the XDA does have some BT issues with Com ports.

I am working with the Qtek2020 with 1.60 rom installed
combining it with bluetooth gps (such as alturion or vitotech works alright)
today I installed a bluetooth NOKIA fixed carkit (wich works perfectily with nokia phones such as the 6600 I tested)

unfortunatelly Qtek 2020 has again a problem with this : bounding the divices is no problem but further on the nokia carkit does not seem to be able to communicate with the phone

suggestions ? anyone ?

somebody suggested the problem lies within the fact that the Qtek allows only headset-bluetooth ... but does this really makes a difference ? the headset does exactly the same thing as a carkit, no ?

Update!!! Using the Towa BT Patch and Character enable .exe I have now satisfactorily paired the Nanman 4400 with the XDA II. However, I still cannot use the Smart ST Software from Navman and there is a registration bug. Navman say that support for the XDA II is still a little unsteady, but they are looking into it. Is this a fault with the Navman or XDA II?

The main problem I had was that I had set the com port as 8 in the SmartST software (as shown in the manual), but this was not an option in the Towa BT patch. Set both to com 4 and all now works well

Hi guys,

I have read this thread from page 1. I was directed here by the company I purchased the tomtom kit from because of the problems. I still have the problem...

I am running the fortuna clip-on with tomtom 2 on the xda2.

I have...

Hard reset the XDA2
Loaded on the patch from Toxa (Cheers - donation on its way)
loaded on the tomtom2
loaded on the v2.09 patch from tomtom
paired the fortuna with my xda2
set up the gps with a number of diferent settings but at the moment it is set at NMEA 0183v2 38400 and fortuna on com4

It still doesn't pick up the information from the receiver. There is no indication of data traffic between the little satalite icon and the pda icon on the status screen and it still says 'gps position unreliable' on the main screen but the little blue light on the fortuna receiver is flickering away quite happily.

Further more, after I have run the gps wizard, when I go back into the BT screen (by pressing the BT icon on the bottom right) it still lists the three options i.e. on, off and discoverable but the circles to the left and the ability to choose any of then have gone and only return after a soft reset???

What have I not done right??????

Your help would be so much appreciated. Has anybody else had this problem?

wolf

Many many hours after posting the message I got it working.

It started working after I discovered the slide (to change between st and xt) behind the on-off switch was half way between the two and must have come from the factory like that.

Cardfather thanks for your pm, the patch can be found on the link a few pages back from here.

Even though the GPS is now working, I am finding that the BT side of things are a little unstable at times. I still occassionally have the problem on the BT screen on the XDA2 (after pressing the BT symbol bottom right of screen) where the three options are shown but the circles to the left have dissapeared and you cannot choose any of the three options. (The three options being on, off and discoverable). This means I can't switch off the BT. This problem is resolved by soft resetting the XDA2 but has re-occured on occassions??!!

Has anybody else experienced this problem?

Towa, occasionally the dialog boxes pop up regarding whether I want to switch on or off the BT in respect to the use of attachments but not all the time. Is this common with your patch?

Cheers guys

I have a similar problem as Wolf with the radio buttons.

However the combination Fortuna BT-clipon/Jabra 250/TomTom also has a more urgent problem:
When I switch on the Jabra 250 while the BT on the XDA-2 is ON, TomTom does not want to reconnect anymore to the BT-GPS.

A workaround is to switch OFF the BT on the XDA-2. Then restart TomTom and have Towa's Pocket Bluetooth Tool start the BT on the XDA-2 again (do not forget to enable the BT-headset mode as well after this).

Another workaround is to switch the XDA-2/BT OFF prior to switching on the Jabra 250.

Or softreset the XDA after switching on the Jabra.

Quite clumsy procedures, which I quite often forget. Can anyone think of a more permanent solution to this problem???

Using TomTom 2.24; GPS driver v.2.09 (2.08 gives the same problem).

Hi there all, firstly very informative thread, would be good if XDA had the same kind of resource.

Anyway, I am developing software that uses a bluetooth scanner. The scanners currently available will only seem to work with the widcomm stack. (I have tried to get them going using Towas BT patch but had no success)

I install widcomm stack onto the XDAII, remove the MS stack and the scanner works fine. No problems there.

Now I want to run a headset as well (BT400 GII). Now this runs perfectly with the old MS stack but I can not get the "Bluetooth headset mode is disabled" to point to the Widcomm Stack. It keeps wanting to start the MS version.

I assume i need to change some registry entries but the links for the reg edit programs do not seem to work in this thread anymore. So has anyone out there got the "Bluetooth headset mode enabled" to work when the Widcomm stack is being used?

Any help would be fantastic as I am starting to go crazy getting this to work..

Thanks in advance.

Hi All,

Just purchased TomTom Navigator 3 Bluetooth GPS (UK) (( http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=TOMTOM3BTUK ))

With my XDA II it worked straight out of the box. My XDA II is standard with no upgrades/patches etc and it still works with my Sony Ericsson Bluetooth headset HBH-35 (( http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=105947 )) and takes calls no problem.

It does not come with a car charger and I do not have an XDA II car charger either. What is the best recommendation for this? I already have a mount for the XDA II.

TOMTOM obviously recommend the TomTom XDA Navigator Car Kit (Complete) (( http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=111504 )) but I don't really need the mount.

Has anyone seen a cigarette socket charger which will charge the XDA II but also have a connector for the TomTom Bluetooth lead?

Cheers

I do sometimes have a problem with TomTom running slow when it is searching for the BlueTooth GPS receiver.

I run the GPS setting from the system control panel and tick/untick the litte box in the top left to disable the reciever. I then start up TomTom and use the Map features and Tom Tom does not bother to keep searching for the BT unit.

But I don't understand why you are using BlueTooth if you have a clip on GPS reciever?

BlueTooth has been the cause of much headscratching with my XDA II. Everything else is cool, but the BT support is .... dire.

So it was with my newly acquired TomTom BT receiver. Set it up, no errors, no problems. Bonded/paired the receiver OK but absolutely nothing in the GPS status. Tried various permutations without getting anywhere.

But then, Success :D - I dropped the BlueTooth bond for the receiver and recreated it. This time, when prompted "This device supports serial bluetooth profile, do you want to create a COM port etc." I chose No, and the whole thing jumped into life.

<Gripe mode on>
Admittedly I ran through the TT setup pretty quickly, but don't remember anywhere being told NOT to create a COM port. My TomTom box contained no printed manual or setup guide other than the poster for the car kit/holder (which I don't have anyway) and the CD manual is pretty useless.

:? Was it me? Did I miss something obvious? I'm a relative newbie to PocketPCs, BlueTooth and even GPS technologies, but I'm surprised that getting the XDA II to talk reliably to other devices is such a struggle.
<Gripe mode off>

Anyway, hopefully if others hit the same problem then this post may point them in the right direction.

Ref earlier comment about Tomtom bluetooth. I have an XDA II with Tomtom 3 and their own bluetooth GPS. My setup also locks up if you run the Tomtom Navigator without either of i) starting bluetooth or ii) starting the GPS. I have tried reporting it to Tomtom support but they are pretty slow.

Given the similar problem with another brand of BT GPS it would appear to be a Tomtom problem.

The Tomtom Bluetooth GPS instructions supplied are a joke. I complained to Tomtom who emailed me a fairly decent manual. Don't know why they can't include this with the product or make it available on their web site for download.

Tomtom do some pretty stupid things. At present you can't even buy afrom them an in-car power lead for the GPS. Fortunately the £20 car lead for an XDA II from the O2 shop is just right when you unplug the XDA connector.

Hi all
I am new to this forum but I could really do with your wisdom.

I have an XDA 2 that I use for business use.
However I need a system for GPS and a hands free driving kit. I suspect that a bluetooth system is the way forward.

However reading these pages I believe that there have been several issues that have caused a great deal of consternation with the TomTom system.

O2 have really messed me around over the last year with their hands free kit. They have been unable to supply anything and with the new vehicle legislation they have been totally unprepared.

The system that I thought about using would be...
XDA2
Tomtom 3
Parrot CK3000

Has anybody tried it and if so is there anything else that I would need, ie cables, brackets, chargers etc.

I would certainly recommend TomTom3.
For the carkit I chose the XDA2 carkit like the one thats sold by Expansys (on www.telido.de where the price was eur 137)
Benefit is that you get a charger, and on-dash cradle with it (apart form the other carkit functionality the parrot also offers)
For the GPS I chose a bluetooth one from dconnect (on ebay they usually go for around 80 dollars): it should bepossible to fit that one on the space on my windshield that is not covered with the metal-like heat-resistant layer.

There is also quite some fuzz on diffferences between the T-Mobile MDAII carkit and the XDA2 carkit. Conclusion so far is that the functionality is limited in the ROM of you XDA2/MDA2 . . .(and that the XDA2 kit is 60 euro cheaper)

Unless you wish to use the gps anywhere else besides the car I would suggest a wired gps, they are usually half the cost of bluetooth, come with a dual charging/data cable and are far more reliable. I have bluetooth gps in my car, however the wireless idea is lost on me, I have to have power to the xda2 so it doesnt go flat so it seems a bit pointless to have a wireless gps when a wired one will only occupy the same lighter socket for both devices. You also need to remember to charge the bluetooth gps which means either taking it indoors and using a mains charger or charging it on the move which when coupled with the xda2 will need a dual socket.

Cruisin-thru: Your ideas were mine at first, until I got my new car with heat-resistant windshield. This metal layer on the windshield makes reception of radio-signals almost impossible.
So I had a choice: a very long wire to one of the back-windows or a BT GPS.
When I found this DCONNEX DC-230 on ebay for around 80 dollars (incl mains and car charger!), i bought one (for 74 dollar excl 28 dollar p&p).
And now I have the advantage
- to be able to take the GPS with me when we go somewhere to walk into the unknown
- to have an immediate fix when I enter the car (the BT GPS is always on (powered on 12V)

how on earth did you manage to get the DC-230 to work with the XDA II, i have bought one from ebay as well, £54 +20 P&P, the xda recognise it but neither tomtom2 nor the GPS Viewer utility which came with it recognise its existanse, tried to scan and force all COM ports with no success, I disabled the beam, installed Bluetooth tools and bluetooth manager (which muted the phone so i had to hard reset)

Help please

I am using the 1.72 ROM
That one has improved Bluetooth support
As the DCOnnex is not different form other BT GPS-es (in fact is IS a Holux GR-230 INSIDE) with earlier ROMs Pocketbluetools would work as well.

Hi,

took me a lot of time to read through the whole thread here ;)
I own a qzek2020 and the new navigon4 (version 4.01).
The bluetooth gps reciever is called navigon modular including tmc.

Certainly I installed navigon, connected to the bluetooth device and tried to get a working communication between gps reciever and navigon4. Of course, without success.
Funny, the hotline itself told me about the pocket bluetooth tool to solve the problem.

So I installed the latest version, deleted the existing bluetooth entry and created a new one by choosing serial and COM7. I didn't had another choice, only COM7.

In Navigon, in the settings, I choosed the navigon modular, but I can't select COM7, all COM-Ports are listed but not COM7.
I tried several settings with 'try and error' but without success.

Do I something wrong? Where's my mistake? Or are their still problems with bluetooth and navigon4?

I hope my 'detailed' description helps solving the problem.

Thanks in advance.

little addition:
I found some ini files in the navigon installation dir:
- prefs.ini
- spgps.ini

I edited both and manually set the comport to 7.

After starting navigon again, the settings tell me com7 which looks fine, but nevertheless it doesn't work :(

One step deeper in this adventure...

I uninstalled the bluetooth tool, removed the recognized bluetooth device and reinstalled the tool.
After the new recognition of the bt gps mouse, serial at com7, I performed a softreset (this seems to be the solution of my first problem)
Then, after the start of navigon4 I was able to find my Navigon Modular mouse at com7 and saved my configuration.

But here's the next problem:
Before I start navigon, the bluetooth led is blinking, so far so good.
Now I start navigon and during the start procedure, the blue led stops blinking and goes off. No light no blinking.
The gps isn't working and I have to swith off and on to get the gps mouse blinking again.

Any ideas?

I am trying to use a Falvom Navi 1 BT GPS with my XDA2 (O2 ROM 1.72.187) with the Destinator 3.0.75 software. When using the default BT tool in the new ROM, destinator could not find the GPS although properly bonded and com5 was assigned. I installed a patch from Dell and assigned com0 to the BT GPS and now sometimes it works with destinator and sometimes it doesn't.
Anyone has any more ideas on how to make this work?

Thanx!

I haven't read the whole thread, and I own an XDA2 with tomtom3 bluetooth but here is my 2 pence.

If you launch GPS TOMTOM by itself, goto the GPS tab

Make sure that TomTom Wireless GPS is in the top selection box
Change serial cable on COM1 to Bluetooth GPS
Then tick the square box on the left.
Make sure your receiver is bonded and bluetooth mode is switched to on and all should work fine.

I just bought a gizmo that converts gps signal to irda, just align the ir ports, set tomtom or whatever to use irda and thats it, its a brilliant device for people without serial port etc. I believe I am the first in the country to get this device and pleased to say it is very good running on ipaq 1910 "they all said gps couldnt be added to it", plus other ipaqs.

I bougth tomtom3 BT version. It works without any problems on my MDA II

It is exactly what I did on my MDA II, it works.

Hi

I've got an XDA2 and a BT77 Gps with tomtom2 loaded.
The XDA2 detects the BT77 and it is available as a bluetooth device.
But GPS status does not show any activity i.e. signal from satellites.
I have loaded GPS 2.09 and that now gives the com port that the BT77 seems to want - Com Port 7.
I have disabled incoming beams on IR.
I have Tom Tom 2 loaded and have tried Tom Tom 3 but have no maps for Tom Tom 3 but the GPS status still seems the same.
I have tried the other com port settings e.g Bluetooth GPS etc but none of them seem to work.
Can Tom tom 2 work with BT77 - can an XDA2 work with BT77?
My XDA2 is ROM version 1.72.00WWE
I've also got the fix from Bluetooth Tools version 1.1 Unbelievably I've still got problems.
I am on the verge of packing it all in and getting another GPS unit if nobody on this site can help me!!!
Has anybody on this site got these items to work correctly?
Or would you recommend a different GPS unit?

Thanks in advance for any help.

What should work:
Delet any BT bonds you have created for your GPS and soft-reset.
Bond the GPS. If that goes ok, the pda should ask something like to create a serial port for the bluetooth connection. Asnwer yes to that.
After that you can use your GPS via all applications via COM5:

This was one of the main improvements of rom 1.72.

Do NOT use the Bt Tools with ROM 1.72 unless you want to use their 'special' features like enabling BT only when a call comes in (it should make your battery last longer), these tools made me go crazy

Update to above.

I now have TomTom 3 with maps. A friend has given me his due to him upgrading to Tom Tom 5.

I have done as you suggested but the only com port it asks for is com7.

Still it will not see a signal on GPS.

What else can I do???

Thanks in advance
