With the xda1 you could easily overwrite wav files in you pocket pc windows map, to change system sounds.
Normally you connect your pc with active sync and then overwrite the wav with a new wav with the same filename

didnt get it to work with the xda2

anyone any luck?

and what is the startup wav ? or is it wma?

There's a little prog in the StartMenu/Settings/System called AddRingTone. When you start this application you can add wav files as many as you want to your ringing tone folder. After that you can change the sound in the StartMenu/Settings/Personal/Sounds/Notifications.

And for the startup sound there's a prog called AIM Production Soundz Cool. I haven't tried with my XDAII but it worked with XDA1. Maybe you cna use it to change any sounds on your XDA.
