This update is for an XDA II, not an original XDA.

Our guess is that WWE stands for "World Wide English". They probably found the term USA was confusing too many people that throught it wouldn't work on their phones. We're right around now doing some research into the upgrade process, and we've already turned one XDA II into a paperweight (but we're in the process of turning it back into an XDA II again).

The 1.60 will install on your phone, you'll then get the T-Mobile personality and Spb GPRS Monitor, which I feel is a nice bonus.

Othman and XDA developer Peter Poelman

Thanks for the info. A few questions..

1. It seems that this upgrade includes the radio stack upgrade and the Pocket PC upgrade. Is that correct? I ask since it seems from this forum that radio upgrades are best avoided. If XDA developer Peter Poelman has turned his XDA II into a paperweight, what will become of us mere mortals?

2. Any noticeable improvements or changes in this upgrade? What else, if anything is bundled into this upgrade?

3. I assume it does not change the IMEI or device serial number?

4. After the upgrade, can you restore installed/added software from a backup or will each software have to be individually re-installed?

5. Is it country or area specific in any way?

to Othman:
I found that the i-mate is behaving in a slower way than the Qtek. Sometimes, the screen freezes for some seconds, and then it goes on. No need to soft reset, but simply wait. As if the display is slower than the CPU itself. In the end, this is annoying. On another hand, when someone calls you, it rings two to three times on his phone before it starts ringing on yours.
After the upgrade to the new ROM, did you notice any siginifcant improvement to the i-mate? Are these problems solved (at least in part) ?

Thanks

Victor - I would start here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=3687

Can anyone advise if there is the option of backing up/saving the existing ROM/Radio onto an SD Card directly from the device itself?

From what I understand, this option existed in XDA. Is it possible in XDA II/imate?

You can backup your deveice using XDAtools, it is easy it is the same as the old XDA, when backing up you device, but it will backup only the operating system,"nb.nbf" or "nb.nb1" not including the radio_.nbf and ms_.nbf for additional software installed.

I just upgraded to the 'official' i-mate version. Took about 30 minutes and no problems.

One noticeable difference right away is that the phone switch off is faster (within a couple of seconds compared to 10-15 in the past).

Also, the SanDisk Wi-Fi software would install in the past but the installation progress indicator would freeze on the device. With the upgrade, that installation went very smoothly and without freezing up.

The LED continues to blink red after a missed call until it is reviewed - unlike in the past where it would switch back to green itself after a minute or so

eXpansys (whom I bought my i-Mate from) posted a link to the download too and it upgraded fine.
I did however only do a sync, and so after the upgrade had to personalise the thing all over again (all installed software, settings etc). Not sure if a full backup would have been any better, would it have restored ok? Ah well. There now :D

Hello IanF

can you please tell us if eXpansys mentioned what are the things this upgrade fix since i can't find any info at their web site about this ! and is it possible to share with us the link of download or at least tell us about the ROM version.

thanks with best regards.

You are better off with the T-mobile upgrade, since i-mate club does not permit non-i-mate owners (I own a Qtek too) to get the upgrade.

I got the T-mobile 1.60 upgrade, and it runs very smooth, and FASTER in many ways (some minor bugs already found, more on that later) The phone part is greatly improved, as is the Bluetooth support for GPS.

Unfortunately Handsfree profile for BT is NOT supported.
You may follow the threads to the T-mobile upgrade, since the one for Qtek (Dangaard) was removed.

Good luck!

Thanks, well I found the Qtek upgrade from Dangaard so I'll try that one first... Edit: I used the T-Mobile 1.60 and it works like a charm 8)

Handsfree profile not supported? My O2 XDA II with T-Mobile 1.6 rom works fine with my Sony Ericsson HBH-65 headset and my Sony Ericsson HCB-30 carkit ....

Some carkits seem to implement somehow the "headset" profile too. If you look to XDAII/Qtek/etc specs averywhere you'll find what I meant, ONLY limited HEADSET profile.
I.e.: NO voice dial through headset.....
NO contacts list transfer to your carkit....
NO readback of Caller ID voice tag by the BT headset....

Which ROM and where are you trying to download from?

The one "freely" avalable is the Dangaard 1.60 for Qtek 2020.
There are many more posted inthe forum, make a bit of research and choose the one you prefer.

Good Luck!

Hi,

Instead of that 40mb file, i find another file (ruu113sku1.zip) which is of 25MB? No traces of the 40MB zip file fo 1.52.00. Is ruu113sku1.zip newer version or what? here is text from clubimate.com
--------------------------------------------------
English Language Version Click here to download ruu113sku1.zip (25Mb). This file is approximately 25Mb in size. Extract the file ruu113sku1.exe to a folder on your PC. With your i-mate™ Pocket PC synchronised run ruu113sku1.exe on your PC. Follow the on-screen instructions.

any idea?

With the info you provide, It's near impossible to know the version and the rest of the details.

You should either have more previous info on the file (web site or forum details), or unzip and try to get the files detais.

The size might be different when zipping, also it might be a version for XDA I, instead of XDA II, Have you checked?

I registered on clubimate with my imate IMEI. I have versions;

ROM version 1.03.00 USA
ROM date 09/24/03
Radio version 1.05.12
Ext Rom 1.03.20

Also there is hell of difference in size of 25MB and 40MB. I did download that new 25MB file but could not get any details from it. Are you ppl still getting that 40MB file on that page?

Atif

I just did the upgrade. I had put the 40mb 1.52 version on before

BEFORE UPGRADE:

Device CE Image Version 1.52.00
Device Extended Image Version 1.52.83
Device Radio Image Version 1.06.01

AFTER UPGRADE:

Device CE Image Version 1.52.00
Device Extended Image Version 1.52.113
Device Radio Image Version 1.10.00

Havn't discovered everything but seems like gprs is a bit faster. No issues with the upgrade except it took a while to complete.

Hi guys!
Looks like imate has posted a new radio version out there.

Have you notice any change in Bluetooth support? Or any BT profile added?

We the "non-imate" users are behind when upgrading.

Just so that I'm straight...

BEFORE UPGRADE: - This was the ruu15283wwe_cdl.zip 38.7Mb??

Device CE Image Version 1.52.00
Device Extended Image Version 1.52.83
Device Radio Image Version 1.06.01

AFTER UPGRADE: - This was the ruu113sku1.zip 24.3Mb??

Device CE Image Version 1.52.00
Device Extended Image Version 1.52.113
Device Radio Image Version 1.10.00

Sort of makes sence that the file name follows the extended ROM version (ish).

Cheers for the updates.

The Upgrade went fine (very long!! a good 1 1/2 hrs!).

I am wondering though... I did a backup before (ActiveSync Backup), then a restore after (ActiveSync Restore) because I did not want the pain of reinstalling everything again with all of the settings/ customisations etc. Was this a bad move??

Thinking about it, if there were any new or modified programs installed during the first startup, then I may have 'downgraded' them with the restore?? Is there a way of running the initial install again, the one you see after a hard reset, to correct these programs after the restore, or am I just making things far too complicated and just need to bite the bullet, document the changes I make and apply them after every upgrade? (This is the second upgrade since I bought my baby i-Mate in November and I expect more)

Thanks,
Ian

Could you not post the rom on the XDA -developers forum ? This would make it available for all non I-Maters.
Thanks

Dear Luca, if you have an older rom you can try downgrading your imate and then upgrading to to the new one. But so far the only difference i found was that the red LED keeps flashing when i get a missed call and renaming "WIRELESS OFF" to "FLIGHT MODE ON" and a new default windows theme and that photo contacts doesnt work anymore..
