Earlier, I installed unofficial T-Mobile 1.6 rom on my i-mate. I just recenlty tried installing the official i-mate update and there is a country code. I don't have the old rom to revert to. Can anyone help. I know I would have to at the least get a copy of the old rom and then install it into the i-mate. Again, since I don't have a backup of the old one, I would need info on how to get one first.

The T-Mobile unofficial one works fine. I just wanted to go back to always on gprs etc. that the i-mate update has. If not, I guess I will have to wait until the rom kitchen is up and running for this unit.

I think you better try it using bootloader way, because t-mobile protect it's update, it happen in XDAI if you update your XDA to 4.16 and you want to go back to 4.11 then you have to update it using bootloader to be able to go back from the previous one 4.11 8) hope this help you...opps correction please there is no bootloader on XDA II, there is bootloader but in different way, I think if you copy your old nbf to sd using xdatools and go to bootloader by using power+anydirection+ reset it will ask to download the nbf to you device... hmmm if this doesn't work you have to look for another way.

Folks,

I'm in the same position - Can someone please outline the success they've had going back from the T-Mobile 1.60 ROM to Imate ROM 1.5283??

Any thoughts would be great... (I'm guessing the boot loader using an SD card may work but would love to hear of any new tricks that people have learned on this :)

Cheers
Andy

I'll try to help.

Where can the ROM be downloaded, so I can have a look at it.

Thanks :)

I've uploaded the new iMate ROM image to:
http://www.c1au.com/iMatePDAROMS/ruu15283.zip

The somewhat flakey T-Mobile 1.6.006 ROM (which I'm trying to get away from is at
http://www.c1au.com/iMatePDAROMS/TMobile160.zip

Of course, with the different operator / country codes, it's not just a matter of running the .EXE - It'll need to involve the boot loader of a little hex editing of the header, I'm guessing (just guessing?!)

The new iMate ROM is meant to be the best bet around at the moment and my device is an iMate in the first place. The only reason why I installed the T-Mobile one was to get the Bluetooth GPS fix (which works well) - BUT so many other things aren't as stable!!

The new iMate ROM is meant to have the BT GPS fix as well.

Any help, much appreciated!

Cheers
Andy

That's correct, you need to mod it.

I'll make a procedure for it.

You're a champion!
Thanks very much..

It sounds like there's a few people that'll thank you!

The other posts on the subject aren't too clear at this point - So it'll be great to clear up the issue for the iMate / XDA II.

All the best - Have a great weekend.

OK, made some time to create a batch file to upgrade.

Works only for upgrade from T-Mobile 1.60.06 NL to I-mate 1.53.82.

1. Download the ROM image ruu15283.zip from the site in this posting
2. Unzip the file with Winzip
3. You now get a file called ruu15283wwwe_cdl.exe
3. Extract this file with Winzip to a new folder
4. Extract the attached file to the same folder
5. Start the conversion and upgrade by double-clicking convert.bat

Since I'm out till Sunday, I can't check my mail to respond to problems.

Enjoy!

Nah, I'm not a good programmer, I just know how to write bachfiles and how to combine things to get the disered result.

Thanks has to go to Isme. He knows a lot about the internal working of the XDA II, the ROMS and the bootloader process.
He wrote the great tool used to change the file headers, so you can update your machine with a ROM of a different brand.
He's a good programmer!

If somebody needs a mod to upgrade from another ROM version, please let me know.

And if you want to do something back, please donate to the people who keep this nice forum up and running.

It worked. For those who want to get back onto the official path from unofficial t-mobile this is an automated way to do it. Thanks...Jon

I'm a new XDA2 iMate user, want to back up my ROM+CE before I screw things up. I did this on my XDA1 (power + software reset, then press contact button I think). Anyway, I always had my ROM+CE backed up to a 64M SD card ... just in case.
I've searched these forums for such a procedure for XDA2 ... no luck.

What is the process, if any, to backup the XDA2's ROM+CE image to SD card?

Appreciate any help,
Craig

I think it's possible with the xda2dmp tool, but you better ask Itsme, he wrote it.
You can find it on this site: http://www.xs4all.nl/~itsme/projects/xda/xda-ii.html

Should work.
Just try it out. If it's not ok, you get country error when you try to upgrade.

Hi Jos ,

I tried it and it WORKS!!!!!!!!!! You are a brilliant guy !!!

I owe you one!!

My friend wants to install the T-Mobile Update because the windows CE version on the T-mobile ROM is newer than that of the imate. Any magic patches that can be done.

Note -> Please tell me of how can I be of any help to you in return for your support

Can anybody outline the differences between the 1.52.00 and the 1.53.82 official i-mate ROMs?

I'm trying to ascertain whether I have sufficient incentive to upgrade (given the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality I subscribe to in my old age!).

Sufficient incentive might be;

 Faster GPRS
 Improved battery life
 Improved all-round performance.

Thanks guys.

Just upgraded to i-mate from much-loved XDA!
