Hi all,

I did a couple of searches on the forums and didn't find what I was looking for. Hope I am not repeating a question here.

I have read reports about the MDA/XDA II having a very fragile screen which is prone to easy cracking/breaking. I want to buy one of these devices, but this has me a bit concerned. Is there truth to this, or are the people experiencing MDA/XDA II screen breakage simply mishandling their devices? Any input would be appreciated, thanks much

well maybe a particular website trying to get some more hits and stir things up.

I have an Imate and no problems at all. Had a Tmobile XDA I before it and would say the screen prone to cracking is the same.

It is glass and of couse it will break if you do something ruff to it. Don't beleive everything you hear. If there was some "manufacture defect" there would be an outcry and you will hear postings all over the place.

I have my XDA since 1 1/2 years now, use it every day, never use the screen cover or any screen saving film and always store it "naked" in my coat,- shirt- or jeans pocket. Nothing happened so far, the screen shows no signs of abuse and the funktionality did not suffer.

I'd say the screen is not a problem.

thanks for the replies so far. this is specifically the article I am referring to.

http://msmobiles.com/news.php/1901.html

I havent had any issues at all with breakage or cracks in any of the MDA's we have purchased for our company, but when I saw this I wondered if it was widespread or just an isolated incident. Thanks again for your input.

Yes and I think the guy running MSMOBILES is looking for a headline and to stir it up. He has bots that scan for news stories and then posts them and adds his crazy comments. Looks like one person broke their screen. Give me any PDA and I can break its screen. Interesting that he has no way to leave comments or responses to any of his posts. You cannot respond. Some of the stories on there are just silly, mistakes which he later posts something different. Can be interesting for the rumour mill though.

the screen can break in 2 ways

the lcd can break

and the touch sensitiv layer can break

the last is more fragile and i asume thats what people are talking about
and it's not made of glass

the touch sens layer is easy to replace at home.

Just for the statistics:

My belt clip (Qtek 2020) is very weak, so one out of every 3 or 4 times I stand up from my chair, the machine ends up in the floor. That makes for almost one drop every other day. (I ended up putting two screws in the botton of the clip)

A week ago I was shaken and stollen in the mid of a foreing (to me) country street, the result: as I was carrying the XDAII in my shirt pocket, it was thrown away, the stilus 2 meters apart from its housing, a noticeable bump and crack on the bottom left of the machine.

Final score: although the general appearance of my XDAII is now the worst of all PDAs I've had, not even a single pixel is gone, no scratches on the screen, NO PROBLEMS.

I now this is a single case, but just for you all to know....
:D
