Yeah it is the final.. its very nice i installed it and its way faster and doesnt crash.. very pleased.. although the .exe file sucks and wouldnt install so i just loaded it onto a sd card and used the bootloader to get it on the pda..

Can I install this on an asian version?
Will it force-upgrade my radio stack?
I presume this is for US market? So it will be on 1900.
Its shown on the website that it can be "Auto band selection when traveling overseas", so does I can use the 900/1800 band when in asia and uk?

the other thing, can I just put out the .nb1 file from this exe installer and then replace with the one inside the "cooked" rom? will it cause error?

Toshiro
31st January 2004, 08:01 AM
yes you can... extract the .exe file using Winzip or Winrar
take the Nk.nbf file, use XDAtool or XDarit tool to burn it on your SD card, upgrade using SD method... then it will only upgrade your ROM not your radio stack

what "extras" does it have, and what AT&T WS programs does it have.

I extracted the all the files from the downloaded file using winzip. I then used xdatools to copy the nk.nbf image to my xda.

It worked .... no problems so far running the WM2003 ROM.

I guess I was taking a few risks and would have been better copying the nk.nbf to a SD card and then use the bootloader method but I didn't have an SD card handy.

Hope this helps.

dont do that if you upgrade using the exe then you'll prob get the radiostack aswell and if it's an us radiostack you'll loose your gsm 900/1800

hi m8,

what the best way of putting on my xda1 and also upgrading my radio stack to v4.21.

my radio stack is currently v4.20. I have recently used the xdatools to load the beta version A.20.07 ENG version of wm2003.

What will i need to laod this version and also upgrade my radio stack to v4.21. IS v4.21 the best for the UK???

should i extract the nb1 from the exe and use xdatools like last time???

Thnaks alot

Zetex:)

cranny
31st January 2004, 06:19 PM
From what I've seen on this forum, I think v4.21 is the most recent & best radio stack for the UK. Follow the links from http://www.o2.co.uk/productsservices/xda/romupgrade/0,,170,00.html to obtain it.

As for the new A30.09 ROM, I extracted the nbf and then used xdatools. I think xdatools converts the nbf to a nb1 if you put it on an SD card but I don't really know too much about it.

hi,

i ahve just downloaded the radio stack from O2 v4.21. I have tried to upgrade through active sync 3.71 it upgraded ok, but when i went to restart the xda it gets stuck on the boot screen. the one that says test not for resale... and at the bottom right hand corner its says A.30.07 and then locks up.

normally before i tried to upgrade it said A.30.07 the underneath it said 4.20...

anybody know what i need to do to correct it??

Thnaks alot

Zetex :(

I can't even get the damn thing to download :(

How does this compare to the T-Mobile Rom 4.01.00 ? I'm in the UK and O2 don't appear to be releasing a Rom so I'll be going with one of the US ones..
I currently have 4.01.00 on my XDA and it is fairly stable, with only a few minor quibbles.. is the Siemens Rom better in any way ?

Cheers

I had no problem downloading, a little slow but it came across ok. By the way, I am in need of an early radio upgrade for O2 xda, anything before 4.21.

I just did the sd install of the attws mobile 2003, and my radio stack is not working. If I go into the bootloader I get the message gsm error. I have tried to install the rsupgrade into the windows folder in the sx56 after I execute the file it will get to 1% and then it will say failed and press ok to restart. I do the restart and it trys to reload the radio stack again and then says failed. The only way to get it our of this loop is to do a hard reset and then wait ten minutes for the sx56 to start again. I hope someone can help me. Thanks.

p.s. I don't have a battery meter either and the sx56 charge light doesn't work either.

Hi all - I've just corrected the link on the MPx200.org page (it originally pointed to an international link, but knowing that it is for the US version, I searched the US pages for an alternative link) so if you were having problems getting it before, you should be able to click on the valid US link now.

Extract the file. Copy it to an SD-Card using XDAtools, insert Card to XDA, enter bootloader and let it install....

Has anyone noticed that sounds (anything from music, ringtones, system sounds) seem to "fade in" using this rom? sounds are starting very quiet then getting to the normal level. This is the same on 2 XDA's (one o2 version & one T-Mobile version)
Any sort of work around for this? as its very annoying when trying to use programs that you need to hear.. like fonix voice dial. you can't hear what the phone reads back until its about half way through what its saying..

Such a shame, this Rom seemed too good to be true! Its very fast compared to T-Mo 4.01.00 and seems stable so far..

if I remember reading this issue earlier in another thread, ATT did this because of complaints of people having the earbuds on and the ringer coming blaring in; therefore, the effect is intentional.

Damn thats a shame :(
Is it simply a running application that does this ? or something they have tinkered with... because I'd really like to have it back to just normal volume all of the time..

Apart from that, this has so far been the slickest WM2003 rom I have tried ;)

Well I got the new AT&T ROM installed and running with no real problems, although activesync will not work at all if Access is selected in the sync options. I'm also disappointed with the volume thing, I think it could have been handled better by affecting the ringtone only.

Just stating the obvious, but did you check your gprs settings? You need to set them according to your providers specs after flashing your ROM.

Downloaded without trouble, completed a SD Card upgrade (using 4.21 radio).

It is the fastest most stable 2003 ROM that i've seen. I tested GPRS on both the Optus and Telstra networks here in Australia without trouble.

A few good points;
- No bloatware (unlike the T-Mob)
- GPRS has a disconnect button now :-)
- Network names comes up in the wireless status popup
- GPRS availability shows in the wireless status popup
- Turn phone off has been renamed to "Flight Mode", this will help (honestly)
- Phantom back-light (when it just turned off at times) has been fixed

The only negative is the volume clipping, hope this is fixed sometime soon as when the phone rings it's very quitet even on the loudest ring. I'm looking forward to seeing a few more full 2003 ROMs, i like this one so far.

Hi,
I've been running A.30.09 for over 2 days now and apart from one problem it has been running fine. Yesterday afternoon it switched itself on (highly unlikely that I did it accidently) and could not be switched off again. In the end I had to resort to a soft reset. If I hadn't spotted it I could have been looking at a flat battery.

Other observations:
Messenger is the updated version and didn't need the upgrade.
Collecting my email seems to take a little longer though this could be down to network conditions.
Everything else is fine so far

because SD/mmc/simcards slow the device down during update processes

so be safe and do that what would you sooner do risk it and maybee paper weight or remove it

Hope this helps, this is a simple process, these instructions appear long and difficult because i've added quite a bit of detail.

Prepare Everything
1 - Download and install XDATolls http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/XDAtools
2 - Connect your PocketPC and make sure that activesync is running
3 - Delete all files on your SD Card (in your pocketPC)

Extract the ROM files & get ready for the upgrade
4 - Run the .exe file you download from Siemens, this will extract the files into C:\Program Files\SX56 upgrade utility. Don't proceed with the install, just exit it after the extract is completed.
5 - Confirm the existance of the file C:\Program Files\SX56 upgrade utility\english\NK.nbf

Using XDATools (OS Image tool) transfer the ROM onto your SD card via your PocketPC and cradle (this is a new feature)
6 - Run the XDA OS Image tool (part of XDA Tools)
7 - As your source select the file C:\Program Files\SX56 upgrade utility\english\NK.nbf (directory is selected by clicking the square button with dots)
8 - As your destination select from the drop down box SD Card
9 - Click copy to transfer the file, if it fails check that activesync is running & try again

Re-flash Image using Wallaby Bootloader method
** THIS WILL ERASE ALL DATA ON YOUR POCKETPC, you have been warned, make sure you've got a backup of everything you need.
10 - Plug your PocketPC into AC power & Make sure that your SD card is in the slot on your pocketpc
11 - Using the stylus top, hold down the left hand soft-reset, then press the power button.
12 - The bootloader should find the new ROM image on the SD card, press the action button to start the load (action button been the central click of the direction button)
13 - The load process will take about 5 minutes or so
14 - Once completed, use the stylus top and press the battery disable button, leave for 5 seconds then press it again to enable the unit.

Enjoy the new ROM!

If u haven't known how already:
1. Install XDATools-Jeff(It has all the requirement's to Burn directly to your Device without using any SD-Card)
2. Don't forget to make a backup of your existing ROM by using the XDA-Tools. (Source:device, Destination:HDD)and keep ur NK1.nb of ur original ROM safe(burn it on a CD or something)
3. Open the downloaded .exe file from AT&T using winzip or similar program (right-click(if u installed the shell feature from winzip)and select "open with winzip")and copy the NK1.nb to your HDD)
4. View the NK1.nb in ur HDD, rightclick and select "burn".
5. Follow the instruction process(its istalled via the Programme A 1.09 if i'm not mistaken, so it might look old but don't worry it IS installing the new ROM)
6. Wait for around 5 mins(10 minutes max for mine)
7. Hard reset and your good to go.

Warning:Use at your own risk,

Not exactly sure what you are asking. The method above shows how to upgrade a SD card that is in the SD card slot of your XDA, this is the safest way to upgrade the ROM.

The other way is to select the "Device Memory (Via Program - A), this is the equiv to the hard-drive (memory), however is more likley to not work than the SD method.

Good luck.

- this new ATT ROM, you no longer have the option of choosing between 900 and 1900 bands as opposed to being able to do so in the T-Mobile version, seeing that there are results being posted from both 900 and 1900 areas, I suppose that it really is working as described!

Hi,

I just got a sx56 from AT&T. I downloaded the WM2003 upgrade from Siemens. Try to run it directly. The device was connected as Guest. I have turned off the phone on the pda before upgrade, but did not remove the sim card.
During the upgrade, it stuck on 10% progress. I eventually closed the upgrade program on desktop.

Trying to fix it, I followed these steps by ozsmac. The steps are amazingly clear.
However, now I have a ROM version of "a.30.09 eng", but "no radio version" and "no protocol version".
sx56 no longer charges the battery.

When I start the device, it will stuck on Windows Mobile screen for 10-20 minutes. After that, Today screen will show. But all the functions will be extremely slow. Eg. taking 2-4 secs for each click to respond.

How should I fix this?

Also tried:
- using XDATools-jeff to to transfer my friend's successfully upgraded WM2003 ROM into a sd card and use bootloader to put on my pda. Exact same problem.
- run 2003 upgrade again. not working. This time, it stuck right on the first screen (first one where the installations starts, but after the extracting of files)
- install the special edition rom, unable to install. It asks me to insert power adapter into sx56, but it is already done.

Sorry for the long message. I just thought it will be better if I describe the whole thing.

Thank you in advance for answering.

Yea and that has caused problems for me on the T-Mobile network!
After I figured it out, I ended up downgrading back to 4.01.00 and the older AT&T A.20.10 radio stack.

I'm starting to wonder now if the newer radio stack might have been the problem, yea I remember now it kept defaulting back to the GSM 900 band.

Yea it boots and I'm able to make calls but unable to connect to GPRS.
I know its the Radio stack because I downgraded back to 4.01.00 and kept the newer RS and still was unable to connect. So I then downgraded the RS and now I'm able to connect. I think it has something to do with the newer protocol that the newer RS adds/changes.

so... is THIS the upgrade I have been lookin for, for.... I cant remeber now?

does it come with a new RS?...and if so, in Qman's last post, did u say, dat u couldn't connect to GPRS with it?...or em I just mixing things up?

Im kinda IF-ee on this new upgrade, because 4.01.00 [6.24.01] is working pretty well 4 me and those "fading sounds" have me a lil worried

Qman,

I upgraded both the OS and the radio too....I managed to get connected to GPRS (t-mo US CA - on cingulars network), but the connection to a long time to establish, and went flaky very quickly (showed connected, but not packet transfer).
After suffering like this all day, and seeing lots of failed GPRS connections (and flaked out 'connected' ones), I downgraded my radio back to AT&T's earlier one A.20, which has always worked best for me (better than the newer t-mo US one).

I know AT&T use newer switch equipment etc. I wonder how these 1900/900 phones will perform with the new AT&T radio when roaming on 900Mhz...kind of worries me!

I'll stick with the old radio + new OS for now..

Yea been spending allot of time in the SmartPhone forums lately but has to return after this latest WM2003 release, you know how it is!

My problem wasn't with the ROM but with the new RS, yes I was unable to connect to GPRS. You know me I've been a big fan of the AT&T RS for for some time now, but somethings have changed in this latest version (no band selection and the protocol has been changed drastically ) and thats not good!

Anyhow I'm the same as you about 4.01.00, its been working great and I really had no need to upgrade. But hey it was worth a shot, I'll hang with 4.01.00 until T-Mobile releases their WM2003 final.

Hi, Qman,

May I ask how do you change the radio stack and where to find them?
I'm a newbie to the pocketpc phone.

If anyone else knows, please answer as well. It will be much appreciated.

Later!

Thanks for the reply, ozsmac.
Yes, the device still boots, but it takes 10-20mins. After boot, it is very slow.

There is a radio stack upgrade in yorch.net. Hopefully it will solve all my problem.

Hi sol,

Doesn't sound too good, i think that the initial upgrade you tried (that should have worked) might have screwed your Radio stack. The method that i outlined only updates the ROM.

I honestly don't know what to do to re-install the radio etc, does the device boot at all?

Anyone else able to help?????

good luck

gonna flash mine now from vA.30.07 to vA.30.09 lol SD method

about the low sounds then getting higher if you put the phone into speakerphone mode always on then the sounds are always loud :D

ill let you all know how it goes :)

gaz

No need to use the SD method if you have the XDA tools. With OSImage you can copy the NK.nbf straight to the device memory instead of taking the route via SD to device memory. this also works perfectly with those as me who have the 5.22 bootloader, or don't have a SD card and/or writer at all. I flashed my XDA (dopod686) with the official A30.09 this way a week ago and it's the best 2003 OS so far.

I think the default calculator for WM2K3 is the "ugly" ones. If u see in the emulator either the ppc2002 or WM2K3 (visual studio .net or embedded C++), all calculator are those "ugly" ones. so i think its not at all T-mo or ATT fault but provided from microsoft. but tell me if i'm wrong :)

Thanks, Qman and everyone else who posted on this subject.
I was having the same problem as adit last night (early this morning) when i did my first os upgrade. I first tried to load it with the siemens prog, but to no avail. said the upgrade was not compatible with my device. after I downloaded xdatlls - smooth sailing through the sd card and boot loader. when I went to sleep last night (PAGE NOT FOUND) was the only thing i could get after gprs connected. but alas by the grace of the pda gods, when I awoke and tried again, it asked me to set up a new modem connection again, I did and it worked. (who knows)??
:D thanks again guy's

Thank's for the fast reply. But my bootloader is 5.17 is there any STEP BY STEP buide to downgrade my bootloader 5.17 to 5.15? I'm really dummy ... i did search, but can't get the info that I want. I just have 32mb mmc and 128mb mmc card and XDA cradle only.

@nelsonlye:
u don't need to downgrade ur bootloader. Or r u stuck at T-mo's ROM? heard it has a locking mechanism, if yes then i guess u gotta get an SDCard(but I never tried on mmc) and use a special method for bootloader 5.17 add some header or something i forgot, just make a search.

After reading all posts in this topic, I'm prepared to upgrade... glub..

this is my setup:

Model: Wallaby (Spain's Telefonica Movistar "TMS 400").
ROM: 3.18.10.ESP
Date: 08/15/03
RS: 3.24.00
Protocol: 32S54
Bootloader: 5.22 (<--- IS IT OK FOR UPLOAD?????)

I have downlaoded new ROM from Siemens and I have XDATools installed. XDA is fully charged and in craddle, SIM is removed, phone is disconnected, and I have an spare 128Mb with a copy of my official 3.18.10.ESP ROM.

I plan to use XDATools to write the NK.nbf file. However, I have a few question:

1.Do I need a card reader/writer to write it to the card? Can't I write the file to the card directly through the XDA?

2.The card is FAT-formatted (from an HP digital camera) with two empty folders in it. Do I need to format it in any special way?

3. Otherwise, is it better to use the "directly to memory" method with Program A? (Yes I downloaded the files from Jeff's site).

Is that it? Is there anything else I need to do before flashing the new ROM?

Thanks a lot for your help.

to answer your questions this is what i know:
1. not neccessary, yes you can with xdatools.
2. If u want to use the SD Card method, it will auto format it to that "special way" make sure u made backup for the SD Card as well(after flashing and starting the windows with the card inserted it will ask to format it so u can use it normally again), otherwise if u choose the Programme A way, u dont need to use the SD Card at all.
3. IMHO its better to use the "directly to memory" method with Program A because its less complicated and easier unless ur really stuck(mine was stuck when i installed the t-mo ROM so i had to use the SD Card method) dunno bout others.
hope this helps, well just keep ur fingers crossed till everything works

Well, I couldn't wait any longer :)

As I type this I'm making another backup of the CE ROM (bootloader method) into an spare SD card, just in case.

Previously, I have used XDATools to copy the AT&T ROM to the device's SD Card.

And here I am, ready to copy the new flash into the device... I just rebooted... GSM OK msg.... shit... bootloader 5.22 does not have an option to flash device from SD!!!!!

I reboot again. No, I don't want to format the card, thank you very much. God, I hate this welcome.exe stuff... I put back the device on the cradle... I set up a guest relationship... it takes some time but there it is... Connected.

I launch XDATools... I select again "C:\Program Files\XDAtools\SX56 upgrade utility\english\NK.nbf" and then "Device Memory (via Programme A)". And there it is, I click on "Copy".

It copies in about 15 seconds the file... it launches Programme A. I say OK. It then show that I have model PW10A1, ROM version 3.18 and Language Spanish. It asks me to veriry that I'm upgrading to device ROM version 3.18 and upgraded ROM version 3.16... don't really know what that means... hmmm, I click ok...

it says it'll take about 5 minutes... device screen just went blank with an empty progress bar... glub... and there it is.. 1%... 10%.... 25% in 35 secs or so... 50% at 1min15secs... the device's progress bar avances as the software's one does... 60%... this scares me but it's too late now... 2 minutes and 71%... it's close to 100% now... 3 minutes...

So far so good... Programme A says it's done, and XDA shows "Completed" !!!

I remove the USB cable as indicated and click on Next. I do a hard reset and wait for a minute or so as indicated in Programme A...

There it is... the time to hard reset again... let's see... everything look sin place... I see the AT&T logo... A.30.09 version and my old radio versio too...

Excellent! it looks like the PDA part is working... let's see with the SIM card on... i insert my pin code.. it connects to the network...

let's try to make a call... shit... it formats the numbers in an US-manner... I don't like that... I know see (607) 123-456 instead of 607123456... Can I change this? Anyway, the call passes and I hear the other phone's beep... yes! :-)

I haven't seen the Movistar autoconfig... of course... shit, I should have noted the settings... Can anybody PM me with the settings??

Well, I'm happy now :-) I'll do some more testing... I hope this post wasn't too long and I hope it helps if you are interested in upgrading...

Thanks to the XDA-developers team for this great tool and this great forum!!!

I'm now have several thing to work out:

1. I type most sms in Spanish so the automatic completion in English is almost useless. Any idea of how to install Spanish dictionary?

2. The phone doesn't come with the autoconfig for Movistar so I don't have the GPRS parameters any more... any one has them handy?

3. I'm still using RS 3.24.00. Should I upgrade? To which version?

I now look forward to experiment further with this ROM and start cooking a better version myself...

Well, as per a post in another thread, I attempted to JUST upgrade the radio stack on my AT&T SX56. That was a mistake. It only succeeded in screwing up the OS such that it would NOT boot. Being comfortable with flashing the OS via SD,I proceeded to do so. At first, even that did not seem to be working. Fnally, after playing around and reading another post that indicated a 1st time 15minute boot cycle, I discovered that I was in fact successfully flashing the OS ROM (yes it took about 15 mintues for it to boot initially after the flash). I am still UNable to successfully flash the radio stack. It always sticks at 1%. I have removed the link in the startup folder which does allow me to reboot without restarting the radio stack upgrade. I have deleted the files, recopied them (via ActiveSync). I redownloaded the original radio stack for the yorch site as well as the new AT&T exe from which I extracted the 4 radio stack files. I am convinced that I do NOT have corrupted files. I have tried installing the original AT&T stack as well as the newest one. Nothing is working. Are there other files that need to be cleared? I would think that with a newly flashed OS, that the registry should be okay. I have tried this WITH and WITHOUT the SIM chip installed, same results.

Is the only way to install a radio stack via running a program on the PPC.
(ie is there anything like the OS flash via SD.

I would REALLY appreciate anyone with an idea, thought, hint, anything on this problem. I may have to send it to the guys at PocketPC Techs. I was planning on having them upgrade the RAM anyway, but I don't like thinking that I can't solve this problem.

After reading the posts in this forum, I have finally managed to successfully install PPC2003 on my Siemens SX56.

At first, I just downloaded the executable from Siemes, and run it. However it messes up my PPC and made it extremely slow. I thought I had killed my PPC.

So, after reading the posts here, I used the SD method and was able to flash the PPC ROM to PPC2003. Just a sidenote, I used to have the Test Version of PPC 2003.

Anyway, being a total n00bie, it took me almost an hour to figure out that you had to do soft rest by pressing the hidden button on the left bottom side of my SX56. So, this is a tip to other n00bie.

PPC2003, runs excellent so far. GPRS works & Phone is loud and clear. I am still playing w/ it and try to learn more of it. I've only had this PPC less than a week :)

Thanks XDA ! This forums rocks !

I have a Siemens SX56

I was able to download the upgrade fine.

I use an aftermarket usb cable that does sync and charge. I got it from ebay for about $5. My cradle doesn't charge at all, and using direct charging with the factory cable doesn't show the right status from the LED. It flickers undeterminantly.

From my work pc on Win2000, using the sync+charge usb cable, I could not even get through the radio stack load. I got an error message on the computer screen and on the pda, a message to reboot. After each reboot, it keeps showing the same error message unable to complete upgrade, please reset, over and over again. So much for that.

At home, using the same cable and my Windows XP pc, with an Athlon 2400+ cpu and 512 RAM, I got through the radio stack load fine, and it automatically went to the ROM load. It showed the beginning status bar but then it appeared the usb on my computer quit. On the pda, the status bar was at zero. I reset the pda and it booted to the same empty status bar screen. I reloaded Active Sync on the pc, no results. I finally pulled the sync cable from the pda, which at the time the pda had a bold red letter warning saying not to do, but when i put it back in, the ROM load began, and completed fine.

I did two battery resets on the pda, as instructed by the message on my computer screen, and now I'm in WM 2003 heaven, with a new radio stack. Haven't really tested enough to see the results of the upgrade, though.

I used the SD card method to flash my UK o2 XDA to WM2003 after busting the rom out of the update exe with winzip. Everything went well and I'm now running WM2003 with my old radio stack. GPRS works, the phone works, everything just works !

Couple of tips -

1. update activesync to the latest version
2. in gprs settings, untick the proxy server setting (which looks like its set to some obscure default - for AT&T i guess) - this had me goosed for a little while !

great forum !

davidI ran this upgade over the weekend and got it to work after 3 attempts. I was running a cooked ROM, I went back to the stock 2002 version with the SD card, then placed it in the cradle and ran the AT&T upgrade. The RSU stopped, failed, recovered, did it again, stopped, failed, recovered. The third time was the charm. Then the OS went without a hitch. So far so good on how it runs.

I called this 2/16/2004 2:30 PM PST. The lady at first was unaware of the 'free' repair service. She said she will check. She came back a minute later and stated they are offering the service. She gave me an RMA number and sent an email for processing the return. The online return form requires a credit card if your phone is over one year old. I 'hope' it is part of the form program and not an attempt to get money to repair the phone. Anyway I am packaging my phone up now for shipping. I will report back once returned.

Folks two things:

1) I upgraded to A.30.09 from 4.05.00 and now I can't recieve SMSs anymore I can send them but just can't recieve them.

2) I have a Qtek 1010 and before this upgrade it used to show that it was a a PW10A1 after this upgrade I now see it as a PW10B1 although I'm not having any problems making or recieving call (other than the ones I miss thanx to ATT's volume mod  ) and the fact that for some reson I can't recieve SMSs.

Can someone please help with the sms problem?

Thanks to those that published all the relevent details to upgrade to ppc2003. It all works a treat thanks. 1 small thing though, the O2 Autoconfig program won't run on the device now and i cant find what the settings should be.

Can anyone tell me what the APN, Userid, password should be for GPRS. Also the DNS server ip addresses ?

I think the APN is MOBILE.O2.CO.UK....

o2 settings for my gprs are as follows:
apn: mobile.o2.co.uk
user: WEB
pass: PASSWORD

(the capital letters are very important)

Mine connects fine with the new 2003 rom, BUT like other people, it connects fine but does not get internet access. If i load interent explorer, it just times out on every page. I read on this thread that welcome.exe might help fix it. I ran that from my windows folder, yet it still doesnt work. Another post on this thread suggested mucking around with your dial up's until it worked.... im still pissing around with my settings but no luck as yet. Im sure its a small thing...because it connects fine.... ive tried manually putting in DNS servers i know into the DNS tab for the connection, but still no luck (i thought it might be that the GPRS connection was fine and your on the net, but you are unable to resolve domain names for I.E.). I'll try connecting to some http:// IP's to test that theory.

I'm about to test receiving SMS msg's.

Cheers for all the info people... keep it coming...

Thanks guys.

Eventually found a doc on the O2 website that tells how to manually set up, so got there in the End.

For everyone else:-

APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
Primary DNS: 193.113.200.200
Secondary DNS: 193.113.200.201
username: username
Password: password

UNcheck: Use Proxy //Thanks to another member for this

Works great. Means i can use eVC4 which is heaps faster than eVC4.

Hi All,

I use the Australian version of O2 XDA.

thanks for all your info and I am now on WM2003!!! :)

Now, everything seems to work okay and the ringing is not annoying me...

But, one thing I really want to get rid of is the "AT&T" section on the Today's screen....

Does anyone know how to get rid of it???

Managed to upgrade my Qtek 1010 to wm2003 by att. Tried to run programA but it extracted the files and then just wouldn't do anything!

I could not run any unzip program to extract the nk.nbf but found it in \Program Files\SX56 Upgrade Utility\english and used SD Card method to flash. I could retain the original RSU, and it's good since I am not sure if that upgrade will work with asian version.

It works much better than any other release of wm2003, however, the multiple reset bug still exists. Good thing is that it comes with upgraded pocket msn messenger.

By and large, it's not a bad deal!

Hello fellows ...

I flashed my xda with A30.09 few hours ago (many thanks to Stefan for his great kitchen !!) ... here is my comments on the last few hours:

1. the sound clipping is not that bad if u use a loud wav file. it doesn't annoy me since my favorite ringing mode is 'increasing' ... ;)

2. i didn't feel this much improved speed over T4.01.00 ... both look the same for me ... will do more tests tho.

3. in general it's stable ... no hangs so far.

4. it doesn't have any extras :( ... T4.01.00 has 2 very nice viewrs for PDF docs and PPT presentations ... may someone tell me where i can get them for free.

5. its network dialog has a nice feature to connect/stop GPRS ... very good point.

6. not sure yet of the notify.db bug status ... will give it more trials.

7. this is general note for all cooked ROMs : don't include EZWAP coz it's not v2.5 with MMS option, and don't include imov coz it won't work as part of the ROM (seems the developer didn't consider having this s/w in ROM so it seems the setup wizrard is trying to update a read only file!!

8. it is a general observation and may someone explain: i thought by including s/w in ROM this will save space in RAM ... this is not true!! ... check the \windows directory and you will find the exe files there ... you can even delete them!! ... it's not the case for 'true' ROM modules like MSN messenger ... the only benefit is saving the installation time after hard reset :)

i will keep the A30.09 for a while then may decide to go back to T4.01.00

I agree with all the observations.

The notify bug still exists!
PDF viewer and ppt presentations can be downloaded free from www.freewareppc.com
The sound clipping does annoy if you prefer to keep volume low.
The greatest benefit of cooking a rom is its "theft protection" feature.

And it does not crash like the other wm2003 versions before.

There is no PDF or PPT viewers there ... the only free viewer for PDF I found is of 4.5 MB in size!! ... but it may worth the space since it's from Adobe

Hi everyone,

I wonder if someone could help me with my XDA which I just tried to flash with the SX56 I downloaded, but now the XDA won't work :?

I originally used the XDATools OSImageTool to copy the NK.nbf file from the SX56 download to the 128MB SD card which seemed to work okay, then follow the bootloader instruction to write the new version. However didn’t get prompted to do any upgrade, it just sat at the bootloader screen with GSM OK.
So I decided to follow another set of instructions (see quote below). This all seemed to work okay up to 65% flashed, then I got an error message on my computer screen saying it could not continue. From there it was all down hill :-(
I click on the [OK] / [Close] button - I forget, which closed the program. Then tried to load the NK.nbf again, but it wouldn't. The XDA just stayed on the "Upgrading..." screen.

I've tried since to reconnect the device, but active sync does not recognise the device. Functions under the bootloader still work, but doesn't seem to help me.

I am so unhappy about this, after seeing so many others sing praise with their great results.

So, is there anybody out there kind enough who can help me recover my XDA?... if of course it can be recovered?

Thanks,
Tom.

Plz take a look at this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=2079

I believe you may need to have Wallaby 5.15 to use the SD method.

May someone more experienced than me to confirm you it's the right solution.

Good luck ... :)

I've tried all the suggestions in http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=2079 but I can't get a connection to my XDA via the ActiveSync on my computer, therefore can't get any of the tools to work.

Is there any way of fixing this problem without the ActiveSync component?... or have I missed another option somewhere.

Getting into the Bootloader (V5.14) seems to work fine, but now when I reset the XDA normally, or press in the smaller button (bottom right) with the scored out battery logo and then restart, it just comes up with a white screen with black noise on the screen. I think this originally was the "updating" screen but now gone funny. Just I'm not laughing.

Any further help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom.

Just an update on the SX-56 fiasco. LOTS of us had problems with the Siemens/AT&T upgrade that left the phone stack uninstalled and with NO way to reflash the radio stack successfully. I sent my unit to the PPC Tech guys who have been waiting for a MS MVP to help them with the problem. Seems that there is a program contained in the radio stack that MUST be there before you can reflash the stack. NO radio stack, no way to reflash. I contacted AT&T and they blamed Siemens and told me that I would have to contact Siemens and have them fix it. I contacted Siemens who acknowledged the problem and gave me a no-cost RMA (other than my initial shipping) to have the unit reflashed by Siemens. They told me to expect a 3-5 day turnaround. I had the PPC guys ship it to Siemens, who got the unit on Feb 19 (FedEx tracking). As it is now almost 2 weeks later, I called Siemens today. They have been unindated with returned SX-56s needing reflash. They are blaming AT&T for telling everyone to upgrade, but AT&T wanted everyone to upgrade as the new radio stack contained specific enhancement to improve GSM performance. NOW it gets ugly, Siemens is telling me the turn around time is now expected to be at least 30 days and when it is reflashed, Siemens will NOT flash it to WM2003 and the new radio stack. That has to be done by the customer and it may fail again. I called AT&T and they are clueless (in more ways than one). They offered to put my acct on hold while the SX-56 was being fixed, but that would extend my contract for the amount of time it was on hold. NO WAY. They offered me a new phone (extend contract or buy outright) NO WAY. She finally agreed to do some more investigating and see if given the # of affected customers (yes they are aware of the problem), maybe AT&T would agree to suspend the acct and NOT extend the contract.

Everyone seems to have overlooked that this is more than just a phone issue. Those of us with the SX-56 used them as our PDAs. This is big impact. I am seriously considering paying the cancellation fee and moving to either Cingular or T-Mobile. AND this is the last Siemens branded phone that I will purchase.

This whole upgrade was obviously NOT sufficiently tested.

Those of you concerned about your sx56 being returned no need to worry. I sent my sx56 in on the 2-12-04. I expected it would take 4 to 6 weeks before I would see my sx56 again. Needless to say I received it on 3-04-04. It was restored to the original configuration wm2002. I immediately ran the upgrade and this time around it worked flawlessly. I had another sx56 that was a refurb. I did a sd backup and then installed the backup on the newly upgraded windows mobile 2003. It worked flawlessly. I am excited to finally have a working sx56 instead of a brick.

Has anyone worked out what the prob is with the volume yet?

I tried the T-Mobile rom on my XDA but it is prone to crashing. I have found that the ATT rom works better except for that annoyance with the sound starting really low and going up gradually.

The worst hing is that it even does it on my MP3's

Does this mean that no one has found a cure for the sound problem.

Hi,
I use XDATool to copy the NK.nbf to SD card and follow steps given in this topic, but the bootloader seems not read the new ROM, and the process takes less then 5 second as mentioned in this topic.
So after on/off the battery switch...my XDA boot as pocket pc 2002...not windows mobile 2003...
Which step did I missed ?...(is there something i should do to instruct the bootloader look for ROM update in SD)

FYI my XDA bootloader is 6.22

Any help is most grateful...
