Are you sure it isnt a dead battery? It might be worth checking and save yourself some expense.

I had to return it, within warranty period, because the screen suddenly went screwy. White background with multicolored horizontal lines running up and down, then a bunch of colored pixels at the top and nothing else, clicking on the screen was still doing something. (If it was a computer, I'd say the graphics card was broken)
So I went to the O2 shop, before I could speak, and I soon as they saw I was coming with an XDA, they said: "Oh we can't do anything wih those here, you have to call the XDA support number" (even with Gold warranty service, they wouldn't even give me a replacement phone).
Anyhow, I called the number explained the problem and they told me this happened quite often.
The next day I got a padded box and preaddressed envelope in the mail. Take out your SIM card, sd card and stylus. Put it in the box and in the envelope and send it out. No payment necessary.
you get a tracking number to check on the status.
A couple of days later it came back fixed.
good service

No, when I described the problem he said something in the lines of "this happens often when it is dropped or hit"
- Actually mine was just sitting in it's cradle when it happened, but I didn't argue with him.
