is there a way of doing a manual send and receive

When I try and log on to my email account from my PC, I find that my XDA2 has already got hold of the thing and is sitting idly waiting after downloading all the current headers. I don't really want it to do this, but can't find a way of (as on Outlook on the PC), just doing a send and recieve on demand.

How about: In the email settings, on E-Mail Setup screen 4 of 4 there is a button marked "Options". Click here and there's a checkbox labeled "Connect and check for messages every ___ minute(s)." If you clear the checkbox the XDA should no longer go out on its own to grab your mail.

To manually connect, there's an icon on the bottom of the Inbox screen to the right of "Accounts" that switches the connection on and off. When you're logged in the icon is in a white box.

My reference is an XDA running WM03. I think you should be seeing the same.
