I remember somebody mentioning that the battery driver update was part of 4.01.16, or at least it was planned but it was unsure if they were going to get that part ready on time for release.

Anyway, to the point... I haven't seen any comments on battery life since the release, but unless I'm imagining things my battery life seems to have increased dramatically. For instance, I had the phone on charge all day Thursday, received and made a few calls Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday without charging, then checked the charge on Tuesday and I still had not far under 1/2 charge. Previously I've had the phone whimpering at me at less time than that off charge with much the same usage.

Also, after having the phone on charge all day yesterday, then taking it off, and not using the device at all last night, I plugged it in this morning and it took all of 5 seconds (no exaggeration) for the green light to show fully charged. This is no fast charger, and any other phone I know, even on standby would take 5 to 10 minutes to charge up with the same standby time (without having a fast charger).

Has anyone else observed this? Did the updated battery driver make it into this version :?:

May be you are using a ver conservative power management setup (back light and CPU timing .. etc) ... could you plz also tell your GPRS connection settings ... I mean "Always on" or "As needed" and how many times do you referesh your e-mail accounts.

Btw, I noticed that phone calls do not consume much power compared with GPRS traffic and multimedia activities (WMA and MP3).

In general, if your observation is right, this would be the only motive for me to upgrade to 4.01.16

Unfortunately I don't use GPRS much because in Australia the prices are just crazy :( , so that really isn't a factor.

Try $25 Australian for 2MB for a month. I do have an account but I dropped it back to $5 a month for something like 250KB. That leaves me the option of using messenger if I want without connection fees. I know that the battery driver was mentioned, and that T-Mobile was tossing up whether to complete the driver first, or just release without it, but I don't know the outcome. It just 'seems' to be more power efficient with default settings (actually I think I increased backlight time but with little use that wouldn't make a great deal of difference).
