Dear Forum Members,

This is an excellent place where people try to help each other. However, I have read EVERY post on changing languages and none of them is clear enough or general enough to be of much help. This is partly confused by the multitude of languages and operators. Can one of the experts please give a step-by-step guide or put it in a FAQ so that we can have this wrapped up once and for all? People are reluctant to flash their device based on vague instructions due to the possible consequences (making a shiny door-stop).

Things that would help:

Will the device work properly irrespective of what operator's ROM you use?

What is the latest and / or best ROM for e.g. English?

I recently bought an O2 XDA II in Germany and flashed it to English using the upgrade from O2 UK. Now my device has English except for all the phone functions are still in German. So, this procedure is not as simple as some people claim. So I need to flash again with a second ROM to take care of that?

Please, one of the experts help us out and save yourself time. For example LumpiStefan has written "read the forum" several times in response to this question. If he had read every post as I have then he would know that this is not so clear or easy.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I'm with you.
I have the same problem. I have a German XDA II and want to change it in English.
I posted some mails to several specialists on different forums. I'm waiting for an answer. If there is something interesting I get back to you.
Note: I didn't try to put an english ROM update on my XDA II cause it seemed a bit too "conflicting" to me. No problems besides the phone still being in German?
If not, can you already provide me with a link?
Thanks
Grtz

as far as i know the language is hardcoded in the rom and the only way to change the language is to change the rom
excluding arap and asian language i think because they seem to use an extre tool to get their chars supportet
