Has anyone tried to get the ROMS directly from HTC? HTC is the one who make the final release of each vertion and give it to the retailers, right?

I think HTC manufacture the hardware and the service providers make bespoke roms to program the phone with.

Microsoft gives the OEM's (HTC, HP, MOTOROLA) The Base POCKET PC PHONE EDITION OS. The OEM then Builds ROM versions for each of their respective hardware devices. The Vendors of the HArdware then make their tweeks to those ROM images to work with their network etc. Then there are also variables or circular references such as HTC is contracted by HP to build the device they designed....

Getting the stuff from Microsoft will not get anyone closer to a working 'latest build' OS, since it requires a specific hardware patch.

Getting a ROM from a service provider will only give us the access to the special version patched for this specific operator, and it's not desirable for those of us who want the cleanest build possible (so we can add our own crap from scratch  ).

Or maybe I'm a little confused here. Does the extended ROM contains the crap from the operator, or does the standard and extended ROM contains that crap?
