Can someone run Cleartype on their device with the new ROM, and tell me what it is like.
To put it into context...
I use Cleartype.
With my O2 ROM, Cleartype is sharp, yet smooth edged fonts, easy to read, with a consistant colour - black looking for dark text, clear white for light text.
When I finally managed the new Danish Orange ROM upgrade, I found cleartype to be a nightmare - black text was blue edged and blurred, white text was yellow edged and unclear, and the letters on the number keys on the phones virtual dial pad were distorted and yet blurred.
So before I spend hours trying to crack this upgrade, I would like users experiences please?

Same here, just as you described....

On the latest one? Damn...
Second opinion anyone? But unless anyone says different to you, I won't be updating.
You DID mean with the latest Qtek Upgrade, didn't you?

Yep, i mean the latest 1.66.00WWE from Dangaard.
It doesn.t show up on all text, it seems to be dependent on the type of font used or something.
I suppose it 'l be fixed in the future...
I remember my iPaq 5550 having a cleartype tuner, one would assume that this setting could be tweaked via the registry ?
I must say that the overall stability of this new update is better than the 1.60 i used before.

Maybe, but if I can't read when Cleartype is on, it's no good to me.
So thanks for saving me loads of time. Cheers mate.

What's exactly the issue with that Clear Type thing?
I upgraded from Daangard 1.60WWe to the 1.66WWe (Orange DK), set ClearType on and I must admit that if it weren't for the repeated posts saying there's an issue about blue pixels on black fonts, I would never have really noticed.
I don't plan to update to 1.66WWE from QTEK since it's a generic update, will just get me the exact same OS rom than Orange, so ... Waiting for a 2003SE update.

If there IS an issue with Cleartype, on the ROM you upgrade to, you don't need to have it explained.
See my post a little further up, for details of what it entails however if you wish to.

also after disconnecting from battery for a view minutes the "serial" screen appeared again!!
can anybody give me a hint how to solve this problem?

Hey mate.
Just open the application and open a rom file.
Use these passwords for accessing the roms:
NK.nbf = 0x20040304
ms_.nbf = 0x20040305
radio_.nbf = 0x20040306
Ofcourse ms.nbf is the one you want because it's your extended rom.
Good luck

roms are never upgrades they are a whole replacement of the software located in the rom of the pda
so it should be possible to load any rom on any device
even a device without a rom already as long as one can access the bootloader

Hey Panja,
Thanks for your reply! It works to edit that ROM, but how can I re-convert it using xda2nbftool so I can flash my XDA?
I used this:
xda2nbftool -x ms_.nbf ms_.nba 0x20040305
xda2nbftool -x NK.nbf NK.nba 0x20040304
xda2nbftool -x radio_.nbf radio_.nba 0x20040306
to make them accessible, but while trying to flash it, I got an error...
Thanks for your reply!

Hi guys! Justo say that I upgraded my QTEK 2020 from version 1.60.00 WWE to this, and I hadn't any problems with it. I'm not a regular user of the option "Cleatype", but yes the fonts are a litle blurry. With normal font everytingh is ok. But I think this problem (?) is not new, because I felt this effect before (or just my imagination?). Anyway, I got better coverage with the updated radio and it seems faster. But I haven't loaded it with the programs I had before, so I don't know how will it be. The new version number is already stated in a reply before this.
Thanks to Oggi for the link. It's a demonstration of the great utility of this forum!

Hello everyone!
I successfully updated my Rom, but:
Everything is now in English, I had it in French before
Active Sync won't syncronise anymore
Program Tab unavailable
Contact and Calendar don't start (error, no program memory available)
Explore file unavailable as well.
Any hint?
Thanks!

I can't help you with your syncing problems...
Sorry for that.
It's correct that the rom is in English.
Rom 1.66.00 WWE = World Wide English
When it was a French rom it would say: 1.66.00 FRA

Thanks for your answer!
I solved most of my problems: it was the backup from the old rom, so I guess it couldn't be restored on the new rom, so I just installed everything new again. A little bit hectic, but everything works ok now..
And I'll make it with english...!!

Hi all
This is maybe a little bit off-topic but I bought a brand new Qtek2020 at the Surcouf store here in Paris last month.
It looks like this is some unlocked Bouygues units.
It comes with firmware 1.66.02 FR and Radio 1.10.
I have not major issue with it (except some charging pb with the Expansys carkit and some USB Cables).

hi guys,
i'm kind a new  at this XDA2 ROM upgrade thing, 'cause i'm still exploring it, but i'm VERY familiar with firmware updates nightmares on other "machines".
In simple words, can anyone tell me an easy way to update it and then not spending 2 days re-installing all the software already in and theyr configurations ? Would a complete backup to SD and a restore could do the trick ?
thx in advance,

Hi,
Could some one post comments on the new features, fix bugs of the new rom comparing to the v1.52.00WWE.
I don't fell like changing the rom just to fix minors bugs since v1.52.00WWE works well for me.
Cheers,
Yann

Hello,
I don't think it's worth it as I did it, and it wasn't able to restore the back up. Probably it is linked with the old Rom and doesn't recognize the new one. You have to reinstall everything unfortunately... like I did.

I think it's worth the time to do a ROM-upgrade. It took 30 minutes to ROM it, and one hour to install all the programs again.
This is some of the things I think has been improved in version 1.66.00:
- It boots faster
- My Jabra BT-250 bluetooth head-set works much better and faster when picking up a call.
- I had problems with my TomTom bluetooth GPS when using it together with my Jabra headset. This works great now.
- When bonding my bluetooth GPS, I now got a question if I wanted to automatically create a virtual COM-port.
Some minor bugs that annoyed me has also been fixed...
This new ROM works great for me :P

Hi,
I'm new to this stuff of upgrading. All the stories I've read on this forum of people not being satisfied with their new ROM's and sad ending stories.
I want to be able to go back to my present ROM if I'm not satisfied with this one.
Is someone willing to tell me how to backup up my present ROM which is usable for a downgrade?
Thanx in advance.

Hello people,
I finally did it.
I changed my German XDA II in a perfect working English version with
ROM version 1.60.00WWE
Ext ROM version 1.60.50
I do still have one small problem.
The MMS Version is the 1.6.0.8 but I need the 1.6.0.9 or higher.
I tried to install the 1.66WWE cause it has the .9 but I always get the wrong country warning.
Can somebody tell me how to avoid this or just how to upgrade only the MMS cause the 1.60WWE runs just fine.
Thanks
Shadamehr

Just search for either of the threads on here about version .9, or even the newer version .12, put the cab on the phone, and install.
