Anyone figured out the patch, fix, mod to get the sound from the xda2 (gps prompts) to output thru the car kit speaker, or the radio output???
Anyone with the original xda2 car kit will know what I am talking about.

When you say "original Xda2 carkit", do you mean an official one from O2?
If so, where did you get it from? I've been looking everywhere and can't find a single retailer (including O2 themselves) who are already selling it! Can it be ordered online?
(Sorry this didn't answer your question).

I am in australia and it is the original kit from O2. The sound is perfect thru the speaker, but it is only when in a call....no other sounds come thru the car kit speaker, just the phone call. I would like to have all of the audio output thru the car kit speaker.

dear shawnthecableguy, baught the expansys carkit pro, installed as requested and as i understand we share the same problem, only sounds of the telephone during calls are emitted throgh the carkit speakers, other sounds (navigation guideness, pda and even incoming call rings) are not, the problem as i understand is in the heandsfre_dll.dll file (in windows directory), we need to change it with a former rom version

Thanks for the reply... I will do some research and let you know what the outcome is. Let me know if you find a replacement dll that works.
Thanks :D

Some feedback on my new XDA2 carkit I bought from www.telido.de for 137 euro. It indeed looks like the Expansys kit.
Works flawlessly.
Some remarks:
1. Ring-tone is via PDA speaker
2. Phone sounde (after call acceptance) is via carkit speaker
3. PDA sounce (like TomTom directions) is via PDA speaker
4. audio mute (to ground in a call) / acc-out (to 12v in a call) only functions AFTER call acceptance
Since the T-Mobile kit does have these function the correct way, It should be possible to fix this in s/w . . . .
Microfone is very good directive.
Speaker is clear an loud
All in all i am happy especially since I paid 137 euro . . . .

@shawnthecableguy:
WHAT beta?
The 1.72 T-Mobile?
Tried the 1.72 iMate (non-beta)?
I have the 1.60 T-Mobile (was on the device, but can be downloaden from T-Mobile NL)
The thing is that with the official T-Mobile MDAII casrkit, people claim to get all audio thru the carkit speaker.
SO: AFAIK both the T-Mobile MDAII carkit and my (Expansys like) XDAII carkit only use the cradle-like connector which only have few wires for putting thru audio.
In other words: IF this works with the T-Mobile MDA carkit, it should also work with the XDAII carkit. It HAS to be in software, ie. the ROM

I also came across the no-sound-on-external-speaker-problem bottom connector when using the bottom connector.
My configuration:
ROM 1.60.00GER, Radio 1.06.01
CAR_ON on ground or not connected at all
rings, sounds only on internal speaker, only phone calls on external speaker
I get all sounds (incl. ring, mp3, ...) through the bottom connector if there is something plugged into the headset connector!

All sound via bottom when headset is plugged is, sounds promising.
Gonna try that in some minutes as I drive home . . .

errrr...
No luck.
I tried the headphone connector of my carkit.
That obviously doesnt make any sense: This connector gets its signal from the flat connector too . . . .
Still looking for a good software version (I read that it maybe is in handsfre.dll)

Hi all,
i've read all the posts 'bout this and still have a litle doubt in my mind. Has anyone tested if v.1.72 works around the "in-call only" sound problem ?
I just received my expansys car kit pro but still not installed, maybe tomorrow if i have the chance. As i'm using tom tom i am interested in a solution to this "flaw"....
btw my specs are:
ROM: 1.72.00WWE (from i-mate ;) )
radio: 1.14.00
protocol: 1337.24
extRom:1.72.126

Unfortunately, after a sleepless night installing the kit and half a day in toyota repair shop replacing the car battery, i had no luck. I got stuck with the same "in-call" only sound problem through the speakers....
@Omega77:
what do you mean all sound with something plugged in at headset ?? if a connect something to the xda headset connector i'll get sound through the car kit ?

It has been mentioned a lot: This 'flaw' can't be because of hardware. The reason is simple: The MDAII has a clear pinout with clear behaviour resulting form putting some value to the CAR_ON pin.
This behaviour of the MDAII (not the carkit) is different with some of us. This other (flawless) behaviour seems to appear ONLY on T-Mobile (or similar) carkits
Now the question is:
1. IS the behaviour of the connector 100% like the spec of it as published on this site -> If YES: It HAS to be in the software in the MDAII.
2. ARE there any hidden features (not known to E-Lead, but known to the manufacturer of the T-Mobile carkit (like grounding or something any other pin) -> if YES: We have to debug the T-Mobile carkit hardware behaviour
Any volunteers ????
I would like to figure it out, but I own an E-Lead carkit . . .

Just wired a cradle connector with only 5V power + audio L/R out (no mic) for use on the motorcycle (TT3 directions in the helmet, no telephone). Just wanted to get rid of the seperate -and weak- connectors.
I get no responce from pin 19 to either + or - however -like Omega77- I get the MP3 audio on the bottom connector ... only when I put a jack in the PDA bottom audio jacket :!: (I did not check any telephone functions)
This is independent from pin 19 to +, - or floating.
It seems that the function of pin 19 should have been the same as the function of the audio jack ... but is not!
Anyway I am helped for my holiday when I put an empty jack in the PDA and make a hole in the cradle.

Actually there is a bit of a difference whether pin 19 is floating or not. Depending on it's state I get an echo of the mic on the speaker (for headsets) or not (for hands free).

I havent dismantled my XDAII carkit, but I have a sloight echo on the carkit speaker (definitely audible when the other side is quiet and I start speaking loud), but in a conversation it is hardly noticable.
Someone else on this forum mentioned pin19 is grounded in the XDAII carkit. (and it should be, based on specs)
Does that confirm your ideas?
STIL: Is there anyone with a T-Mobile Carkit (or similar, like the QTek or Yeti ones) that wants to investigate the connections in that carkit and share the info here????

I have a Qtek and an expansys car kit, and i'm going to try to figure this out. I have to re-flash the new Qtek rom, because at the moment i'm using i-mates rom. I'm also contacting already the guys at E-lead to try to get some answers from their part as well.
i'm gonna flash it this weekend and then start testing...
I'll keep you posted...

The 'brand' of the rom wont make any difference if both roms are ver 1.72.
The diff between Qtek and Imate 1,72 roms are in the extended rom only (=operator specific extras and customisations)

I've been searching the www.ppc-welt.info forum on this.
Besides the fact that pin19 should be grounded, there also is an issue with pin 9.
According to a guy called Mocki this pin should NOT be connected. In some (all?) T-Mobile carkits it is connected which makes the radio go mute once TomTom navigator is started (probably because of the serial interfacing for a GPS mouse).
When pin19 is grounded and pin9 is not connected:
1. radio will be muted once there is audio output
2. all audio goes via the bottom-connector and then to the carkit speaker(s)
Does anyone know how pin9 is connected inside the O2 XDAII carkit?
