Connecting XDA II directly to wired LAN

Has anyone found a way to connect an XDA II directly to a wired Ethernet LAN? I mean directly, without any desktop PC in between. The reason I ask is that there are Ethernet ports all over the university where I am taking my graduate studies. And it would really be nice if I could plug my XDA II into one of those ports to access the university intranet and the Internet.
