View Full Version : Old ROMS.... really that bad?

As you can see from my profile, I seem to be running one of the oldest ROMs around on 2002 OS. My phone signal seems pretty good, the OS behaves reasonably well, so what am I really missing by staying at this version? After reading many of the posts here, I just can't see going to WM2003 as anything other than risky. Can someone point out the advantages of upgrading my ROM, and sorry if this is a really stupid question. To me reliability is more important than having cool features like landscape. Any comparisons would be welcome, or point me to the correct thread. Thanks.

There is no much risk in ROM flashing as long as you are doing the right steps .. but it's the RSU that's risky, so don't mess up with it unless really needed.
WM2003 has some improvements over PPC2002, but I agree it's not on the core functions ... but most of the current s/w are compiled on WM2003 with no guarantee it will work on PPC2002
So, if you do have ALL s/w you want right now, then there no rush to upgrade ... some enhancements in WM2003:
1. SMS sender name displaying
2. GPRS "Always on" attachement
3. Two sliders for volume
4. WMA files as ring tones
5. MMS with 3rd party s/w

Thanks for the information. It was exactly what I needed. :-)

Any recommendations on what software I should be looking at to be able to send & receive MMS messages w my XDA1 (WM2003)?
