View Full Version : Odd symbol in status bar

I've noticed a strange symbol in the status bar of my Xda2, which flashes up from time to time. It looks like three linked bubbles with a cross through them, and appears next to the signal meter. It shows for a second and then disappears. My device is exactly as it was when I took it out of the box.

I don't doubt that this is perfectly normal, but could somebody tell me what it is?

Thanks in advance.

p.s. I did use the search, but was unsure as to what I was searching for!

This is probably your gsm company logo.

Here is an approximation I drew using ‘Paint’. I’d get a screen grab, or even take a photo, but I never know when it is going to appear......

My operator logo is the O2 symbol shown against my name, so it isn’t that.

Thanks

If it's the thing that looks like a speech bubble, it's what O2 call "the notification icon". All it means is that there is not enough space to display all the current status icons (eg signal strength, SMS received, etc. If you tap it, further icons will be displayed. It goes away again when there are fewer icons to display (eg you read the SMS).

I know the one you mean Tim, but that's not it.

My sketch is pretty accurate. It almost reminds me of a muscular arm with a cross through it. My first though was that because it has a cross through it and only appears sporadically, it must mean that something is temporarily unavailable. I just can't think what!

I think I see the same thing when I do a soft reset. On mine, the lower "bubbles" look like a handset of a telephone, and it occurs right before I am asked to ener the PIN.
My guess is the symbol tries to tell you that the SIM (and consequently, the phone) is momentarily unavailable.

Cheers
Daniel

Aha! I've just done a soft reset and it appeared again......

My drawing was less accurate than I thought, I had missed off a 'bubble', and it does indeed look like a handset.

Mystery solved!

Thanks guys!

is it not described along with all other notify icons in the manual ?

I don't know. I'm in the middle of moving house and my manual appears to have been 'tidied' away....

Isn't it just the symbol that comes from IA photo contacts? Just ignore it...

farnold was right, actually it's IA Caller ID.

IA Caller ID gets killed most often by the 32-processes limit (being loaded first and idle for a long time makes it the best candidate to kill). When you see that symbol, it just means that IA Caller ID is being loaded again when it's killed.

Nothing to worry about, it is design to restart itself from time to time. :)

And with the next ROM version we can actually expect to be able to get rid of it right from the beginning... I read that the latest IMATE upgrade already has that... I don't need picture contacts anyway...

Mate, that must be magic then :? If you erase every file from the extended rom and perform a hard reset you will get a pretty much not working device...

i suggest you try b4 u tell me mate ;)

youll find the only program u need is the camera one the phone operates fine without any other cab and the only cab you need to install is the camera one so the camera works ;)

why dont u back up the files on your pc copy andpaste the rom into a folder for safe keeping and then hard reset it ;)

youll find it works top bananna ;) + also gets rid of all the company customisation crap :) oh also install the mms thing too but youll have to set that up manually but its simple enough same with connections for wap and gprs all easily done and you got yourself a working phone with less crap to slow it down
