The following will describe how to unlock the sx56 (Siemens AT&T PPC - A.30.09 Eng, 01/01/04, A.33.02, 1.3.3) and downgrade version 5.22 of the bootloader to 5.15 to avoid the keycheck.
Requirements:
Card Reader
1x64Mb+ card
XDArit (XDA ROM Image Tool V1.2)
bootloader_v5_15.nb0
Cooked ROM image to use as a replacement.
Backup the existing bootloader and operating system using card reader
---------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Insert a blank SD card into the XDA
2) Do a hard reset (hold on/off key then press the soft-reset button) click on Contacts button and
choose 'CE+BOOT TO SD', and press the action button to backup the ROMs.
3) Once complete, remove the SD card from the PPC and insert it into the card reader.
4) run XDA ROM Image Tool V1.02
5) Select SD Card from the dropdown
6) Choose 'Read from SD card'
7) Ensure both the 'Bootloader' and 'Windows CE' checkboxes are checked and click the '...' buttons
for each to select a file to back up the bootloader and OS into.
8) Click OK to read the data from the ROMs into the selected files.
Create a V5.15 Boot Loader to allow boot load functionality and avoid key checking in V5.17+
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Requirements:
bootloader_v5_15.nb0 from the self-extracting zip downloadable at:http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/XDA/XDAtools-Jeff.exe
in the 'binaries' folder.
Procedure:
1) Run XDA ROM Image Tool V1.02
2) Select SD Card from the dropdown
3) Choose 'Write to SD card'
4) Click on the radio button for 'before 5.17 (1K)'
5) Click the 'Bootloader' checkbox
6) Click the '...' button and browse to the 'bootloader_v5_15.nb0' file
7) Click 'OK' to write the bootloader ROM to the SD card..
When the SD card has been programmed successfully, throw it in the XDA
and do a hard reset (hold on/off key then press the soft-reset button).
It will automatically be detected as a bootloader ROM and hit the Action key
to change the bootloader to V5.15.
When this update is complete, a hard reset will show the bootloader version as 5.15
and loading of application ROMs can be done easily.
Cook a ROM and download it to the XDA
-------------------------------------
1) Go to http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/
2) Next to 'Which ROM Version do you want to cook?' Click on the 'Pocket PC 2002 ROM' link.
3) I chose '3.17.03 ENG O2-Euro' with 'No AutoConfig data'
4) Select the remaining options as desired BUT ensure that the 'XDAUnlock' checkbox is checked
under the 'create 'Phone' subfolder under 'Programs'' category beneath 'Add software and modify ROM'
if the unit is currently SIM locked (if this is left out, you will have to manually transfer the file over after the cooked ROM is loaded).
5) Click the 'Build ROM now' button and when complete, click on the 'Download ROM' button to store
the newly cooked ROM on your harddrive.
6) Run XDA ROM Image Tool V1.02
7) Select SD Card from the dropdown
8) Choose 'Write to SD card'
9) Click on the radio button for 'before 5.17 (1K)'
10) Click the 'Windows CE' checkbox
11) Click the '...' button and browse to the newly cooked ROM file downloaded in 5).
12) Click 'OK' to write the application ROM to the SD card.
When the SD card has been programmed successfully, throw it in the XDA
and do a hard reset (hold on/off key then press the soft-reset button).
It will automatically be detected as an application ROM and hit the Action key
to change update the operating system.
When this update is complete, a hard reset will boot the new operating system.
Running the Programs|Phone|XDAUnlock file will remove the SIM Lock...after this time, the original
ROM/bootloader could be restored as desired.
This is a compliation of information found on this site into one central post...and I would like to pass on a huge THANKS to the group as the procedure described above allows me to remove the SIM Lock originally set by AT&T and easily boot load cooked ROM's.
Cheers.
