I just bought this Siemens SX-56 used, it's got XDA-developers Special Edition Rom already installed. I discovered this forum and this is my first post. Definitely a newby.
I am in the USA and the only options for auto configure are USA T-Mobile, so I skipped the auto config. and called AT&T to get the correct settings. Now the phone says it is connecting to GPRS, then indicates it is connected. But when I type in ANY URL, it gives an error message "The page you are looking for cannot be found." :x
The people at AT&T said I need to upgrade the ROM to PPC 2003. So I tried doing that and couldn't upgrade because the numbers don't match. Then I tried calling Siemens and they told me I was on my own because the ROM had been changed to XDA-dev. SE.
Otherwise, everything seems to work fine. It must just be a simple setting problem or something. I read through these forums for a couple hours and couldn't find anything like this. :?:
I thought about trying to use AdaptRom to try to upgrade to PPC 2003, but I don't know if that would work.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Dayne

People that should give support always say this kind of things just to get rid of you...

1. Try provider's web to find out the correct settings (access point).
2. The fact, that the phone shows "connected" doesn't really mean anything.
3. Common mistake is putting "Cellular Line" instead of "Cellular Line (GPRS)"
4. Sometimes it helps simply to erase all other connection settings! :D

Good luck!

PS: xda-dev. SER is pretty old one, actually...

You can upgrade to WM2003 using sd card bootloader method.

Hello, Thanks for the responses. When I called AT&T, they had me set up a connection we called "Gprs connection". I entered all the numbers they gave me and it wouldn't work. I then went to the AT&T website and retrieved the gprs settings listed there, (they were different), and they didn't work either. Finally tonight I deleted the "gprs connection" settings, and used the "Internet settings" connection instead, and it worked! I don't know why of course.
The baud rate is listed as 19200. Should I turn that up? (Some of the web pages don't want to completely load, and it seems a little slow, But maybe that's just the way it is?)
Also, would you recommend upgrading to PPC 2003 (is that the same as WM2003?) as someone has posted I can?
Thanks again. Dayne

1. The baud rate I used was 115k. Actually the system should choose it itself, as far as I remember you can't adjust this option at all in WM2003.

2. If you want to make the connection faster you should try tweakers that increase "window size" and probably upgrade to WM2003 to speed up the entire IE (in PPC2002 the system became unbelievably slow when you opened more than one window of IE)

3. Never tried bootloader method - I always run rom.exe (you can cook it at www.romkitchen.de) on my PC (ActiveSync 3.7 + cradle required)
