The 4107 paramater is apparently the parameter for "WAP Signed Message Policy: PPG_AUTH | PPG_TRUSTED | OPERATOR_TPS | OPERATOR"
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/amo_ppc/htm/amo_pocket_pc_security_policy_xml__kqra.asp

The value is 3220, or 2048 + 1024 + 128 + 16 + 4
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/sp_amo/html/consecurityroles.asp

This apparently enables WAP push and over-the-air PROVISioning of WAP settings. (I wonder if that is in any way supported by any network operator).

itibm appears to be a battery monitor of some sort.

BizMobile appears to be an application that adds information about Norwegian businesses to your contacts (and callerID) via the BizWeb.no website.

Since I'm norwegian I installed the rom as is. Here is what I believe the changes are

BizMobile.cab
Is a software that works like 411 in the US. Is a gprs based service that let you search for people, firms and their phonenumbers etc.

itibm.ARM.CAB
It's a plain and simple battery monitor. Useless if you use a software such as batterypack

Norsk_Dansk_PPC_Tastatur.CAB
Installs a Norwegian/Danish keyboard.

Norway.sa.CAB
Norway172_Customize.sa.CAB
provis.cpf
Load_Provis_cpf.exe
Believe all these files does customizations. After installation and reboot the splashimage was chaged, and also the startpage in IE had different links than the original roms. That's about all the changes I've found. Maby someone here can explain these better...

And to all:
Thanks for a great forum.

I tried that but the program cannot be removed because there is a dll in use "\windows\imsnord.dll"

I have no programs running. How can I deal with this dll?

Switch to an input method other than the keyboard (such as block recognizer). Soft reset. Remove the program. That should work, since the keyboard will not have been started, and its DLLs should not have been loaded.

I am thinking of upgrading from T-Mobile rom 1.60.00WWE to rom 1.72.

Main motive: Bluetooth improvements

Since the OS and Radio ROMS of both iMate and Qtek are the same, one can conclude the quality must be ok (well, at leats two companys say its OK).

For the extended rom maybe it is a better idea to just re-use the old one (1.60.36) I am currently using, thus making sure all (T-Mobile) customisations are just like I have them now, instead of using the iMate of Qtek extended rom?

Can anyone confirm that will be a wise idea?

Hi!
I just upgraded to the new ROM. Everything went fine during the upgrade (no errors, no ID codes, perfect!)

I found the keyboard to be a bit unusual, but can live with it.
I tried to remove the .dll, file, with no success.

Any other idea?

Could have figured that out myself

But I was impatient so I deleted te dll myself using BT. After that I was able to delete the program without the error, however I now do not have any keyboard at all en most of my programs don't start anymore.

Unfortunally I also cannot connect my PDA using BT and at the moment I do not have a USB cradle at hand. I managed to copy the dll back to the device using IR, but since my programs do not start (like fileexplorer) I cannot put it in the right folder (windows).

I will have to try to replace the dll tonight and I hope this will do it. At least I kept a copy of the dll on my laptop.

If that doesn't work I will reinstall the ROM 172 or does anyone have a suggestion?

Found another ROM avaliable for the Norwegian market. This one should not be as customized as the other one.

It's avaliable here:

http://www.idedata.no/programmer/qtek2020_172ID.zip

2 programs added to EXT ROM

1: Norwegian Keyboard (Should be no problem uninstalling)

2: BT Tools (The bluetooth tools we all love... ) :D

Did not try it yet...

I did that and I had to hard reset my device in order to get in working again. Most apps stopped working when I deleted imsnord.dll.

So now I cannot change the keyboard layout and I saw that imate has an 172 ROM update to. I guess this one is english, including the keyboard so my question is:
does anyone have this rom (and tried it?)

Just unpack the .exe file with Winrar/Winzip so you get to the files. The one you want to edit is the ms_.nbf which is the ext rom. Use this password: 0x20040305

I have not edited the extended ROM the old fashened way (er2003edit) since Itsme introduced this great tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewforum.php?f=10

After I flash a new ROM, the first thing I do is unhide/unlock the extended ROM, delete and add the required files with a file explorer and lock it again, followed by a new hard reset. This tool also allows you to e.g. store critical backups/settings in the extended ROM (even with sub-directories, which er2003edit cannot).

Word, brother. Notice that only the ExtRom is different in the Qtek ROM, so if you're already on 1.72 from the iMate ROM, there is NO reason to flash your device to get the nordic customisations, just get them from the ZIP posted here.

It's always better NOT to flash your device.

Note that operators (like T-Mobile and O2) may have interesting applications in their ExtRom. T-Mobile's 1.66 ROM had a GPRS Monitor, and O2's asian ROM has java midlet support. (Of course you should buy those apps separately if you're not a T-Mobile/O2 customer, I thought I'd just point it out ;-))

Could someone please inform me if I can use this Norwegian QTEK ROM?
My QTEK is still on 1.03.00 USA, haven't dared to upgrade sofar, because it appeared to involve too much fiddling about for my skills and courage....
From what I read here I do not think I'll need to modify anything, and a Danish keyboard sounds fine for me for obvious reasons, since I'm Danish!
Will I have to solve the much mentioned country code issue, or will that be the same for Denmark and Norway? - If this is the only problem I think I can manage that with the info from this forum.
I have one software issue though, that someone might be able to answer, I use TOMTOM3 navigation a lot, and I think I'll have an activation problem after the upgrade, unless I can identify and keep the files TOMTOM uses for identification? - has anyone got info about that?
Best regards - /Henrik

Short answer: you should not have any problems.

Long answer:

- 1.03 didn't have a country code, so you can flash any version over it. And if you ever want to go back or change to another country code after upgrading: you can always flash the 1.03 over any other version, even newer ones. So, bottom line: just run the upgrade executable (but make sure your cradle is connected directly to your PC, with no USB hub in between!)

- while trying to resolve a serious standby time issue (seems to affect only German O2 users), I flashed quite a few different versions, and TomTom never needed to be re-registered. It seems that as long as you don't change the IMEI and your user name, TomTom will recognize the device as being the same as before, even with a new firmware. However, I tried this with TomTom 2 only, as I don't have TomTom 3. But I can't see any reason why TomTom should have changed that behaviour.

Cheers

thanks so far, after updating from a german to an english rom i have some problems. whenever i synchronize with my desktop (outlook 2003 german language) and then do the first soft-reset i only get a blank white screen, where the password dialog should appear. nothing more happens :-( so now i try to "down"-date to 1.03.05 from t-mobile and then re-update using 1.66.231GER where the radio stack is 1.14.00 taken from an 1.72.126WWE rom-package.

i going to let you know when i run into trouble again :-)

...re-update using 1.66.231GER where the radio stack is 1.14.00 taken from an 1.72.126WWE rom-package.

I can't really recommend mixing parts of different ROM versions. If there is any incompatible API change between the old and the new version, then the apps that use that API also have to be adapted. If you use the old apps (i.e. the old ExtROM) with a new Radio stack and OS, and if Microsoft made such an incompatible API change (and why shouldn't they - they do tnat all the time in the "big" Windows versions...), your apps will malfunction.

Also, 1.60.52 does not seem to have any fatal problems, and O2 Germany claimes that also their second attempt of the 1.66 is flawed, so why don't you just continue using the 1.60.52 for now? Which problems are you trying to solve?

Finally, note that if you backup your device using ActiveSynch, and restore the backup after you upgraded, this effectively downgrades(!) all applications that were installed from the Extended ROM.

Cheers

I think tazio in theory is right. BUT: as long as you just keep the Radio & OS roms together, the Extended Rom should not give difficulties. The extended rom 'only' installs customisations in two flavours:
- Registry edits (like setting the Operator dependent GPRS settings)
- Software apps (like the camera s/w or CallerID).
Indeed one should think of what versions are 'good enough' begore any upgrade. For me it was the BT stack improvement that made upgrade to OS 1.72 and Radio 1.14

I kept my 1.60.36 T-Mobile Extended ROM, just because of the customiusations. It works flawlesly.

I also discovered the downgrade caused by a active-sync restore. What worked for me:

Activesync Backup (as upgrading destoys any permanent save)
Upgrade
Hard reset
Activesync Restore (this gets contacts/appointments on board again but apps downgraded): Carefull: device might get unstable!
Activate Permanent Save
Hard reset

After that the extended rom apps will be installed (no donwgrade!) and permanent save will restore only contacts/appointments/etc.

Finally a Activesync Backup to be sure . . .

Yes, but why don't you just synchronise with Outlook before the upgrade, and then synchronise again after the upgrade? That brings you back all your contacts, appointments, notes etc as well, but seems much easier. :-)

I upgraded to the rom from IdeData and after a little initial problems (First it stopped during upgrading, that brought some sweat to my forhead, but the second time it worked fine) it is now working fine for me.

I had to reinstall Active Sync to get it to recocnize the device again, but thats ok. Beforehand I had the problem, that when I pressed the "black screen" button ("power off") it would sometime wait up to 10 seconds before it turn off the screen, but now it happens instantly.

Now can anybody tell me what the battery indicators are for?

Yes. :-)

First of all, it is not a good idea to restore a backup after an upgrade to a new ROM version, simply because you will effectively downgrade all those applications again that were installed from Extended ROM.

You can't use your old partnership. But you can delete it from ActiveSync (make sure you copy all backup and synchronised PDA files to a safe place before), and then once you insert your PDA into the cradle the first time after a hard reset or upgrade, it will re-create a partnership with the name you entered in your PDA - which can now be the same name as before.

Note that you can only delete a partnership when the PDA is not in the cradle.

The official 172601 ROM for Qtek is out, get it here:

ftp://xda:xda@xda-developers.com/Qtek172601

(Hope it's ok that I upped it here :? )

Edit: Looks like the ROM contains Norwegian settings etc.. but you could easily edit the ROM using er2003edit, password is 0x20040305
