Newbie to these forums, been reading around a lot recently since getting my xda2, particularly since it started playing up. Ive heard a lot about particular ROMS causing trouble and im not really sure whats happening to mine.

Before i start:

Its freezing all the , soft reset being the only cure. Most of the time its upon device turn on, while typing in the pin, but it can happen anytime. The memory card has been blanked more than once, sometimes reporting that its full, sometimes empty. This morning i was taking a quick snap with the camera and upon closing the camera app it hung. Turned off and on and the thing wiped right before my eyes. Nooooo. Hadnt gotten around to backing up yet :cry:

My question is could this be to do with the software i have installed or does it sound more like a fault? I will try running it for a few days now with no extra apps installed but in the meantime, any thoughts folks?

did you do some soft of restore of the settings and programs from the older rom ?
if so then it could very well be that causing issues
often backup and restore dont like restoring on a different rom then the one which the backup was taken from

The phone came shipped with that ROM, havent touched anything so far, just installed software from fresh. Anyone else had these kind of troubles?

Yes, I used to have the same problems you describe... And I was under the same ROM version than you!

In my case, my MDA2 worked perfectly for about 4 months when all of a sudden it started acting up.

I did test the machine in factory defaults (no third party applications installed) but sooner than later it hung up several times, and sometimes only a hard reset would make it normal again just to fail again in the next hour or so.

So, out of desperation I decided to install 1.72 ROM Upgrade and voila!, several months now with no problems what-so-ever!!!! :)

Here's my new Dev. Info:

ROM Version: 1.72.00 WWE
ROM Date: 03/15/04
Radio Version: 1.12.00
Protocol Version: 1337.21
ExtROM Version: 1.72.104

I even installed the latest SBP Pocket Plus and it's been working just great!

No hang ups, no freezes, no hard-resets...

Being rather new to this game, can i ask what and maybe how i upgrade the ROM? Also, does it matter, the fact that i have an XDA2 rather than an MDA2? What will this change?
