Hi-
I just purchased an unlocked AT&T SX-56 on eBay. I am a t-mobile customer and would like to remain one- so I am wondering how I can flash my SX-56 with the latest T-mobile firmware to have their logos, and other carrier specific functions. Also, how do I upgrade from the 2002 edition of the Windows mobile OS to the 2003 edition so I would be able to use the voice activation features and other thing that I can only do on the 2003 OS? Lastly, I would like to get GPS software for the SX-56 but all the good packages like Tom Tom and Co-Pilot Live seem really expensive ($200+). Is there a way to get pirated software to try first or a cheap alternative. Where is the best place to but a Y-Cable and a GPS mouse for the XDA?
Sorry for all the questions.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Daniel

check out lumpistefan's rom kitchen
http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/
Do a search for his name in past threads to find out how it works.
I use 4.01.00 (t-mobile release) on an sx56 and it works great.
I got pretty awful reception in New York and OK reception in New Orleans until I upgraded to Radio Stack 6.25.02. I highly recomend it. Lastly add a new modem connection, Cellular line (GPRS) and if you make the access point name "wap.voicestream.com" you get free internet access. Don't spend the $20 a month, it's a rip off. This only gives you email and internet, and aim if you change the port to 80. Hope that helps.

Thanks so much! Especially for the free internet info. I was going to pay $20/month! But what do you mean by: [This only gives you email and internet, and aim ] what else can you get if you actually pay? Also, I am having trouble understanding this whole ROM Kitchen thing. The link to the "System Snapshot (ssnap)" program is dead on that website you sent me and I am having trouble finding clear instructions on how to upgrade to windows mobile 2003 and on how to flash my xda with the t-mobile firmware. Is there any site or post that offers clear instructions to newbs? I tried searching for "Lumpistefan" in threads and came up with nothing useful.
Thanks again,

T-mobile left 3 ports open 80(http)web, 110(POP3)sending mail and 25(SMTP)receiving mail0. This means you can access the internet and use access. It doesn't allow you to use ftp or secure sites like paypal (which its too slow for anyway). As far as upgrading goes I had a friend upgrade mine. This really isn't a firmware upgrade as much as changing operating systems like you would on a computer. The advantage of using a rom kitchen is you can take advantage of the otherwise unused space on your rom for storing programs. I would back up ur current rom and save everything to an sd card. Also try this link.

Lastly when using your free internet your new best friend will be this website. http://wap.oa.yahoo.com/
