In case : repeatedly, but no harm done..

Wothout case: Only once, and it got scratched on the front near the Bluetooth led and near the answerbutton below.

No errors !

dropped it once. the point of impact was directly on the yellow/red led which pushed the led inside the XDA2. no errors occurred. but i'm pissed!

you're all lucky buggers, i've dropped my xda twice in the last year. First time it cracked the screema nd had to replace that, and dropped it again this morning and the screen's messed up but not cracked, how do you lot get away with it, i didn't even drop it from a great distance and it was a capeted floor

Why i am asking the times you dropped it, beacouse mine was dropped a miniut ago. i was so nervous and worried. but there is no scratches or errors, when the time it was dropped, it restarted and search for something i found bad, but there is nothing bad happens, still i am worried and nervous.

if there's nothing obvious just after you drop it, chances are you're lucky and it'll be fine

Dropped it 5-6 times (Im not clumsy, really, Ive had it for 10 months now :)), always in the standard case, which offers little protection on the sides, resulting in a number of scratches to the device on the sides. No errors however, seems like a tough enough device. If I put on a new cover it will be as good as new :)

Dropped the XDA I in its case dozens of times, no real damage. Unfortunately, I have been carrying the XDA II in the old case, and it fell out twice now and hit the pavement naked. No functional damage, but sure scratched it up.

The crack in the black plastic was probably not from the drop. A buddy and myself had the crack develop by the power button and then aother to where it made the piece fall out. Neither of us had dropped ours at that time. Since then only twice in the case. One no damage, second hit the corner by the voice recorder button. Drop on the pavement from about 2 1/2 feet. No functional damage but the silver part is definatley got the marks to show...

I have quick reactions and have always managed to stick my foot under it to cushion the fall.

I dropped mine on concrete . . . no cover . . . naked. The antenna cover (black plastic) cracked diagonally up from the record button to the top of the back and then back down past the external antenna connector. It seems to be holding fast and working perfectly - but at some point I am going to want to replace it.

Yes, it's kind of like smacking a pack of cigs to push the tobacco into the end. Dropping your XDA helps align the electrons so that they flow in a single direction, rather than randomly as they often do. You can pick up a few MHz of processor speed this way.

The companies that make these things tell you not to drop them, since they just want to sell you the new fastest model. If you drop it enough, it will be so fast you won't even be able to see the stuff happen on the screen.

Very Nice Carlos,

Now, the solution therefore to the many problems of XDA 2, (caused by ramdom electron movements  ), is to drop IT.

IM DROPPING MINE NOW, like jjones, from my bed to a carpeted floor.

Hehehe, ALAS, IT has AN ALUMINUM CASE, which may bugger the signal a bit, BUT completely protects my XDA, COMPLETELY.

Now I can say, I dropped mine ONCE.

now the electrons are moving in one direction.

well you people really should do a better job washing the soap off your hands, it would cause less dropping :P

think i drop'd mine while in the old case 1 or 2 times nothing happened

and with my new plastic case i've drop'd 1 or 2 times as well
plus a wild animal send it flying from a table

maybe some sort of intimate piercing with a rather short chain connected to the xda would teach you people the hard way to stop dropping the soap hhmm i mean xda :P

I dunno, I think some people around here (you know who you are) would be dropping them all the time just for the enjoyment.

Hi,
Droped my xda1 on a tiled kitchen floor, sd card fell out and damaged screen. Nice crack in the bottom right hand corner and the screen turned black. device worked ok, but I had to guess where the "enter" button on the pop-up keyboard was.

Anyway, called O2 and they were helpful (for a change). Luckly I had taken out insurance 6 months before so, I sent the xda1 back to them and they sent me the new xda2!!! (xda1 was out of date) Payed £50 excess!
so, dropping it was not so bad ;-)
You could say I "drop-graded" not "upgraded" to an XDA2.
I did try to break it's fall with my foot, but I have never been good with ball-games.

My xda2 unclipped of its belt clip as I was getting out the car the other day. Had to look under the drivers seat for the stylus.
No damage, thank goodness.

This kind of reminds me of my theory that all electronic devices run on smoke. I know this because whenever you let the smoke out of one of these devices . . . it stops working.

hi,

however I used to drop my nokia phones regularly - over this 8 months period I only dropped my xda twice (sounds lucky)

second time a small plastic bit broke off next to the power button, but no malfunction fortunately

I have changed the cheap looking original black case to a red (I said RED) Covertec - which seems OK

the only wear one can see on the housing is the "Xda II" sticker is getting smaller and smaller, but I can live with that...

I also started to use foil on the screen, because after a month or so scratches appeared on the right side of screen

cheers

I've been reading the threads here and kept laughing on some of them... hehehehe...

Hmmmm... i also used to drop my nokia phones a lot (like a hundred times or more) and most of the times i have droped them or accidentally droped so hard that all the pieces came apart.. the battery, sim, front casing, back casing, and the keypad... hehehehe... so far the only thing i had to change was the casing...

I also started to use foil on the screen, because after a month or so scratches appeared on the right side of screen

Use a screen protector... i'm using one for my XDA2 which is actually a screen protector for Palm... :D

So far I haven't droped my XDA2 yet (thank God!!)... well almost droped it twice already... the first time I was glad enough that I caught the cover part of the casing before it touched the ground... the second time (naked) it almosted sliped out of my hand... still thanking God I was able to grab it again before it totally slipped out... And my XDA2 is only two weeks old..

Cheers

I've dropped my XDA II two times on a very hard surface (outside on the street). It scrached near the bluetooth led. There is some color missing in two points and you can see the blue led blinking throu them. No other problems.

The last time it dropped from 25 cm but in a little soft bag (from the car).
For one day it has no sound and no microphone. I couldn't use it for calling or recieveing calls without bluetooth. Also other sounds didn't work.

The next day it worked again.

That's incredible.

Bye,

Uros

Hi,

I almost lost my sd card a few times, with the XDA1.
The sd slot is on the bottom of the phone. (Bad design :-( )
Found my 128mb card lying on the floor one day and I have been careful since then.

All you need to do is press the card by mistake and it would fall out or be sitting loosely in the slot.

I am so glad the Xda2 has the sd card slot in the top. :D

My 8290 was once run over by a police car (long story involving my motorcycle on one wheel), but it worked fine. Ugly, but worked fine.

The SD card has almost been lost a number of times. Luckily the EB case is just slightly out of alignment with the slot and kept it from falling out. Whew.

Unfortunally i'm without my XDA II for at least 15 days. Last week i went on vacation and taked the travel adaptor with me. It was the first time i droped it, it fall +- 30 cm on the flor...popping out the sd card. I took the car...examined the case...and praying for no harm done...no scrashes...i turned it on...and it worked fine. I thought my worries where over. But the next day i noticed the baterry was weak and when i tried to inser the travel adaptor i noticed i litle bit more hard to insert. But it was the only way i had to charge it and realy needed to check my e-mail. I puted on...and no charge...puted it on again and no way...tryed another plug...no luck. Then i noticed from the fall the litle circuit on the inside must had moved a little down, and a litle pin a litle bend, and when i inserted the charge the circuit stayed hard toime out place and the pin bended. Be carefull when inserted the charged...now i dont know if the warranty will cover it and if its to expensive to have that fix .. :( and the worst i just bought a sd card and will come this week and i can only tested on the end of september with luck ...
