Xanadux is NOT dead. Sorry for shouting but this is important :)
Xanadux is alive but yes, it is lacking capable developers. If you want to volunteer have a look at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HimalayaProjects.

One of the problems we encountered during development was the need to switch between wince and linux (as long as you don't have a spare xda for development). This is why we concentrated on basic functionality, i.e. screen, buttons and touchscreen. This should be finished until the end of 2004. In combination with the software available from the handhelds.org project this would give us a working system. The next goals were then power management, sound and phone functionality. Research on most of these is almost complete, so we just need a handful of capable coders.
