View Full Version : 1.72.900 T-Mobile NL Extended Rom by eDsuBsofT

Finally I found time to publish my own cooked Extended Rom.
It is to be used together with the 1.72.601 QTek OS and Radio Roms
(do a search to find that upgrade).
Carefully read the Description.txt file on upgrade instructions.
I used the ExtRomUnlocker software because that keeps you from the flash-process which has a higher risk to mess up the device. Therefore I put together a RAR archive and not a NBF rom-image file.
I used this Extended Rom now for over 4 weeks without any trouble (for whats its worth to you . . .)
There is still one issue i am having with BT GPS and TomTom3: When TomTom cannot connect to the GPS (GPS off, BT off, GPS out of reach), it almost freezes the device. I work around this by simply not to try using TomTom without GPS connected.
Any clues on solving that are greatly appreciated.
Please post any remarks.

Is there a way to put that new iPaq PPCE for T-Mobile USA ROM/OS on my xdaII? -or is that a bad idea? -is it possible to get that ROM anywhere?

its a bad idea. This rom would make your XDA2 a piece of metal.

...ok, so if I'm on TMO USA will this 1.72 upgrade work fine for me? I've heard it's generally a bad idea to upgrade unless you're really unhappy...I'm on 1.60.00wwe & radio 1.10.00 -so how will I do better? I'm tempted just to wait til the SE is out...

The 1.72 OS & Radio rom will work fine for you.
See the other threads for the benefits, but they really come down to:
- improved BT
- improved battery life
My ExtRom can be of use too, but you will need to setup the T-Mobile USA specific settings (like GPRS, Voicemail, SMSC and maybe some more)

I have an MDA II, with the UK 1.72 Beta on it. Can I upgrade with this ROM, without any special configuration of the country id, or anything else. Or will this require some special changes to the .nbf, use of extended rom viewer, etc, etc.
I'm ok with upgrading a ROM, but I do not want to mess around with the device beyond that. Too many horro stories out there.

If I decide to use this ROM when the Official T-mobile comes out am I going to have country ID error problem again like when you have upgraded from... I-mate to T-mobile ROM or vise-versa? Or it is just straight forward upgrade?
Thanks!

From the replies I think is about time to clear some things.
1. My archive is just the CONTENTS of a ExtRom that I put together. Benefits: All new versions & works together perfectly with 1.72qtek & contains customisations for T-Mobile Nl that I want.
2. Because its NOT an NBF, you DON'T have any country code issues on the ExtRom
3. For your device to work, you will at least need a 1.72 NON-Beta OS & Radio rom. I use the Qtek ones, but planning to upgrade radio to 1.17. Withe the OS & Radio you may entouter country code issues, but they can be solved via the instructions on this site. You will have country code issues when your device currently is not running a rom from the same distributor. ie: if your running an official T-Mobile rom you will encounter country code issues when using the 1.72 Qtek or iMate roms
Hope this helps . . .

Sorry for the extra question but that didn't clear things up for me...
Leaving the C-code error aside which seems solvable, are saying with my current rom & radio (posted above) I can just download your 1.72 and will have no issues?
edsub

CDTV, you first have to get the 1.72 rom upgrade (for use of os & radio) from Qtek or iMate.
AFTER you upgrade to that os & radio, THEN you can use my ExtRom.

@heshamsch:
errrrrrrr in the first post of this thread?
remember its only the contents of the ExtRom, You need a 1.72 os & radio to get it to work properly
@CDTV:
I cant judge if you wil benefit noticably
I benefitted (especially BT, to be used without any extra tools now!)
Remember the ExtRom contains (more or less) Éxtra's and NL specific customisations

Hi, your Ext rom suits fine, but.....I use KPN as my prvider and would rather not see the T mobile screen when its starting up. Is this easy to fix within the ext Rom and if so how can i change this.
Thx

this should be do-able.
You need to change the images that reside in one of the cab's.
Use ce cabmanager to open those. You can try this s/w a number of times before you have to buy.
You cant just put any bitmap in.
Search this forum on 'splash image' how to create your own (KPN i suppose) image: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=3759&highlight=splash+image

Can anyone post their experience with Bluetooth Serial Port Protocol devices (such as BT GPS mouse).
I would very much like to know
1. How you installed the device (ie. straight away, answered yes to create COM port)
2. How the Bluetooth settings screen looks like, especially the lower part of the screen with the two thick-boxes (ie outbound thicked and COM5 mentioned)
3. What the device is (is DConnex DC-230 GPS mouse)
4. What software you use with the device (ie Tom Tom Navigator 3)

@BigErk: Open the RAR, see the Description.txt file.
That should give you the answers and the direction
BTW: There is NO Radio rom in my archive!

i am completely baffled your instructions are not completely clear.. where do i put the extended rom unlocker and under what path?
edsub
6th September 2004, 11:30 PM
just put the unlocker cab anywhere you want
then start it
it will then be automatically copied to the programs folder

I found some things regarding BT that needed fixing.
See the attached archive.
Again, see Description.txt inside the archive for instructions.
If you installed 1.72.900 you can also copy the eDsuBsofT.cab (which is in the new archive, it replace "T-Mobile NL Customisations") into the ExtRom (unlock - copy - lock!!) and start it. That will give you effectively the same result.

I use a Rikaline 6030 BT GPS mouse. When installing it as a bonded device, I answered "yes" on the question if a serial port connection was needed. The Bluetooth settings for the serial port are:
Inbound COM port: COM4 (UNchecked)
Outbound COM port: COM5 (Checked)
Use it flawlessly (at least the BT-part) with Alturion 5.2 Navigation software and, during my holidays in Czechia, no problems whatsoever with Smart Maps CZ Autoatlas 1.7 (programme shows where you are on the map, isn't navigation software).

Ok, guys, tnx..........
One other thing: Could you tell me, Edsub, what the difference is between your extended rom and the beta T-Mobile 1.72.104 (Radio 1.12 and build 1337.21) that I've been using for quite a while now and that has been proven pretty stable? (No problems with BT on a simultanious BT headset-GPS setup)
edsub
11th September 2004, 10:58 PM
Thing is that I did not look at the beta T-Mobile rom.
I used the Qtek extRom, dropped scandinavian stuff, added T-Mobile Nl settings from the 1.60.36 ROM, added my own additions.
I also setup the T-Mobile NL voicemail# under speeddial 1
Very stable until now
