Problem with sms and ringing

I am a beginer to the XDA (sx56) and I have a few questions. Is there a way that when I write sms it shows me the letter counter? Is there a possibility to set different volume level for ringing and for other sounds like taps? And the last question: how do I find out which software do I have and is it worse upgrading to windows 2003 when I am not using internet? Thanks for the answers.

both of these are included in 2003 hmmm dident know 2002 dident have a letter counter ... though

not sure why using the internet or not would have anything to do with wm2003 .... but you find out which version your software is by
clicking the icon called device information in settings
there it will display your rom version
what version the os have is in about also in settings
version 4.XX is 2003 and i think 2002 is 3.xxx
