View Full Version : Is it possible to put the Qtek 9090 rom on a Qtek 2020 ?

Hi,
I just would like to know if it's possible (or if it's a stupid question) to put a rom of a Qtek 9090 on a Qtek 2020.
Why this question ? Because the Qtek 9090 have the same processor and (I suppose ) mainly the same hardware than the Qtek 2020.
Benefits of the manipulation : WM2003 SE, BT Widcomm stack, ...............
Did someone have this rom ?
If no, I have one ;)

As far as I've seen QTEK9090 has a PXA27x CPU and 2020 is PXA263. Theoretcally it is possible to patch 9090 ROM so that it would not hang on our devices.

freddyzaz, if you really have this ROM from Qtek 9090 - please post it, so we can see what can be done with it.

Please, can you upload the ROM of Qtek 9090 in this forum?
I would like to try it anyway with my MDA II
Thanks,

Hi Van,
I will try it for you and will add comment to XDA-Forum,
For O2 XDA-II -> everything is possible .... like mission imposible ... and make it avaible.
Mentioned ideas the same with mine, ... we will use O2 XDA-II or XDA-II(i) or XDA-II(s) or XDA-III ??? where the core hardware inside is not much impressive.

from the registry I noticed a difference in the bluetooth device:
qtek2020:

different iobase, different drivers.
I don't have a qtek9090, so can only look at the binary for differences.

It's normal because the 2020 has a MS drivers/stack whereas the qtek 2020 has a WidComm drivers/stack but the drivers file has the same name.
In the Qtek 9090 :
"Bluetooth for Windows CE BT-PPC/PE Version 1.0.0.1900"

3. Hook up a terminal on the serial line
4. Insert SD card

I dont think just flashing the qtek 9090 rom will do the trick.
there's just to much difference between the devices.
but I'm looking forward to you guys getting this done. there are so many freaks around here ;)

Where did you get the Qtek 9090? And how much did you pay for it.
I would like to buy one, but here in Belgium or the Netherlands, they still not available :(

Aarrrgghhh... That's bad, that's bad...
I think we need all these tree ROMs backups, 'cause I'm "sure" RadioROM is little bit changed (updated?)... And ExtROM we need for great new versions of included SW, of course... :D
But I hope, if we get these ROMs someday and try to flash them, it should work in Himalaya as Himalaya & Blue Angel are different only in keyboard and WiFi, the rest should be same (CPU, RAM etc...)

As far as I see 9090 uses a different BT chip: BRF6100, that is probably incompatible with ours. Display hardware is also different - when I've replaced ace_ddi.dll with this - my iMate hanged on startup. Camera is also incompatible - the 9090 application crashes at start.

i think it's not the right way by trying to get the whole thing working with the qtec 9090 images but to extract the wm2003 system.
so we get a completly "naked" system in which we can load our old software and drivers from the qtec 2020.
I guess that's the way to get started on this.

Flashing error again :(
I think that we need WM 2003 SE and smart bluetooth profile supported PAN. Some months ago nick HTC already had test ROM with WM 2003 SE and it is working. Now Tmobile and mmO2 have tested ROM and we have to wait for launch MDA III fist in Nov. then the upgrade 2003 SE will be posted?
May be somebody can share the beta upgraded ROM WM 2003 SE here??? :D
Thanks

You cannot "extract" only the OS-part. The OS core is NK.EXE file that contains too much device-specific code (memory initialization, etc)

I hope the new MMS client works on the XDA II. Looks like the one that comes with the MDA III is fully integrated with the Pocket PC Inbox. It's the same on the iPAQ H6315.

I wouldnt do this!
People with SonyE P900 are flashing there phones with P910 firmware. So they can use a Memory stick greater then 128mb.
Phones look the same and all, same size board and everything but there is a difference in the bluetooth and now the Bluetooth doesnt work at all and they have problems with screen flickering.
So just thought I should let you guys know this. Just let someone else do it before you screw up your phone!
Good luck and I do hope it does work for you guys!

I think this Rom is only the "OS Part"...
This contain no Radio or Extended Rom, and we don't need this to update.
I think the Radio from the 9090 change and cannot run on the 2020.
Extended rom is not a problem we can build one.
I cannot see why WM2003SE cannot be installed on the 2020 ?
The Widcomm BT is the same than the HP63xx, and it runs on the 2020...
For the rest, the hardware is the same on both machine (Processor, memory etc etc)...

Hi All,
I also tried to upgrade Qtek file NK.nb1 -> change to NK.nbf then up -> but unsuccessfull.
Error from some reasons:
1. The size NK (Qtek 9090) smaller than NK of O2 XDA-II - error checksum.
2. Open (using HEX) show that NK.nb1 of Qtek9090 included Bootloader ... RadioStack ...etc...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then...
We need anybody can upload or extract only OS Wm2003SE from Qtek 9090...?
Because basicaly the core OS from MS are work witk all device likes Qtek 2020, xda2, mda2.

By different "hardware" I've meant different memory addresses of devices. So you'll have to patch this rom heavily to make it work. For example you can copy ace_ddi.dll driver from 9090 ROM to XDA2 and you'll see that your device is not booting.

I'm playing now with drivers from 9090 ROM trying to install them on my imate and looking on what happens. Some drivers are working on our device after you patch the expected os version to be 4.20 and not 4.21. For example ace_ddi.dll (a display driver) and btd.dll (part of Microsoft BT stack) are working. The "new" ace_ddi has an awful cleartype, adds a white line at the right side of a screen (so display hardware in 9090 is not 100% the same). BTD update gives no new features. Updating modem/UART drivers also gives nothing. USB driver conflicts with screen leds (probably USB hardware is also different).
I'll try to play with Widcomm stack and audio drivers when I'll buy a headset. Maybe these drivers would have a working headset profile.

Please do so coz im desperate to have a working Widcomm BT stack on my XDAII. I have been looking for a version that has all profiles working but it seems there are still problems with the current versions I've seen in the forums.

Youīre jokeing, arenīt you?
Until now, it isnīt possible to use this ROM for the XDA II device, which has nearly the same hardware.
How should it work on the XDA I which is completly different?
Also there is no adated ROM from the the XDA II that works on the XDA I.....
