More headphone problems

I have an XDA1, with the headset pluged in I can hear the phone but the phone buttons dont work, with media player on the sound only comes out of the speaker. I may have a XDA2 headset (dont ask) is there a differance? or any other ideas?

yeah there is a difference
the xda2 headset have a pickup and slamdown uption :P
on the mic part of the headset
and xda1 only have a pickup
it could very well be the cause of the problem
