Dear All,
I am not sure if this topic has been covered but is there a program to unlock the extended rom of my Imate PDA2k device? The 19.5k program which I remember was posted a while back does not unlock my extended rom. Has anyone found a solution?
Best regards,
Gilbert

The attached zip holds the two files you need. Thanks to some members here at XDA-dev.com
Copy both to your Imate. Tap on the .cab file to install it. Then using a file explorer such as Resco, run unlockextrom with the arguement -unlock -xda3 Once that is done, do a soft reset and you should be go to go.

Nice.. Thank you!
One question from a wary user.... Will unlocking the rom cause problems with a rom upgrade down the road? That is, if IMate releases a new rom upgrade, will it upgrade fine? I would assume that if it upgrades fine, then I would need to unlock it again after the rom update?
Thanks!

I only unlock my ROM when I want to make a change. Otherwise, I leave it locked.

Hi Dave!
i tried this files on my MDAIII (german machine!) and the unhide worked perfect but the unlock did give me an error!
any ideas what i can do?

This also happens on the XDA II. I found that with dismissing the errors, eventually it says unlocked OK. And after a reset, I can see and write to the Extended ROM.

I agree with dcs, it should eventually work.
Unlocking the Extended ROM doesn't seem to have an effect on ROM updates that I have seen or heard of.

No!!
This tool gives you access to a hidden storage of the MDAIII.

But with the new /Storage you don't need to unlock the ROM unless you plan to modify the cab files used in hard resets, correct?

No, but, it does give you more usable storage, especially if you move the .cabs out of the folder till the next hard reset.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the tools but I couldn't unlock my Imate PDA2k. To unhide ExtROM but couldn't edit it is useless.
Could anybody give me a hint? Thanks many times!

Sorry, but I just finished to buy a MDA III, and I would like to know what the extended rom contains and why is useful to unlock it; when you unlocks it, what do you see in the screen? perhaps /Extemded Storage or something like that? Thanks.
this is in the FAQ of the Himalaya, but i guess it is valid for Blue Angel too.
except you can't change the extended rom on Blue Angel with extendedromunlocker

Unlocking and unhiding works on Qtek9090 using
1.22.00WWE 1.06.00 Radio and extR 1.12.169WWE
I'll flash shortly to 1.06.02 Radio and i'll test again, but i suppose it will be working also because the extR should be the same although i'll make a full reflash.
one (dumb) question: as far as i've read somewhere the cab install from extRom is not according to config but some code inside upgrade routine itself (correct??). If so, anyone knows if there is a checksum confirmation or can i just replace cabs renaming names for it to work ?

Extended ROM is a hidden part of the device - it's where all the non Microsoft customisation goes.
It's LOCKED (READ-ONLY) and HIDDEN.
So first you UNHIDE, then you UNLOCK (READ-WRITE)
Make sense?

Ho Zohaer21,
how do I dump my ROM? I've done a quick search on here and found out about the dumprom tool, but that seems to be for unpacking the ROM image, not extracting it from the PDA.

Then a few members posted back that it worked great...
I am new so maybe i am missing it... but did you post a link that I cant see? or am I just missing something. I too have tried using the ExtendedRomUnlocker and it only is able to unhide and hide. When I try to unlock I get the same erreors as the others and it doesnt work.
Any help would be great. The goal here is to get CallerID 2.0 into the Rom so as to have custom ringtones along with pictures. My PDA2k has all the latest versions and Rom's but the callerID is 1.6.
Thanks in advance

It works great. However, on non-english devices "Program Files" folder can be named differently. For example, on my German device it's called "Programme" so I had to copy installation to "Program files". Perhaps, it can be fixed in the cab file for convenience.
Thanks,
Alex

Hello. I have a Verizon Wireless XV6600 (aka Audiovox 6600, Sprint PPC-6601), which is the CDMA version of the Blue Angel.
I am able to hide and unhide just fine, as well as lock, but unlock
gives me the error:
ERROR:
FL_IOCTL_BDTL_HW_PROTECTION - A device attached to the system is not functioning.
I have ensured that the link properly has -unlock -xda3 in it.
What do I need to do to unlock the extended rom?
Thanks

gavron,
You can download a version based on itsme's that works with the 6600 here. http://www.sdsoft.net/xdaiii/apps/exttools.zip It basically just adds a UI and has a different password.

Hi there,
I've tried the files posted by bulldog64, but unfortunately no luck, I have the Imate JAM with :
ROM V. 1.12.00 WWE
RADIO V. 1.12.10
ExtROM V. 1.12.128 WWE
when I run UNHIDE, no problem, it goes fine but when I run the UNLOCK I get the following error:
ERROR:
FL_IOCTL_BDTL_HW_PROTECTION - The parameter is incorrect.
I then get another popup saying that the ExtROM has been unlocked but it actually isn't, even after a softreset.
Sniff, sniff ;( it seems to me that the new ROMs have got one hell of a protection on the extrom through the bootloader stuff.
Regards,
Ricky.
