Hi,

I have just received an i-mate PDA2K from the USA and I'm experiencing a rather weird issue.

When I originally booted the device I noticed that the boot screen said No GSM. Once the device had completed the startup routine I could not access the phone app and the device info didn't show any information for the radio rom.

I then downloaded the latest ROM from clubimate and tried to install it on the device but I'm getting a country code error even though the device's rom is english and the downloaded imate rom is english.

Trying a few tricks I removed the OS and Extended rom images and tried to just flash the radio rom. The update starts but quickly throws up Error 114.

With just the OS rom and Extended rom the flash works fine but leaves me in the prediciment that I still don't have GMS.

Are there any difference between the USA radio rom and the one I've downloaded from iMate or could there be something serious wrong with the radio rom in this device.

Any help appreciated.

in USA they use GSM with 900 MHz frequency. in Europe the GSM freq has a value of 1800 MHz. as far as i know the MDA 3 supports both bands. try to find and select the 1800 MHz band.

you have a qwertz keyboard and not a qwerty keyboard, correct?

Your device is a German MDAIII which was converted to English. When you Start the update the phone looks at the ROM and Sees that it is an English rom, it then Kicks BacK to country code error.

You will need to get the imate rom & Do the rom Hack each time you update.

Look for a thread that says 'MDAIII ROM" it will have a link to xda3nbftool and some commands to paste into a .bat file

Hi,

Actually it's a QWERTY keyboard. So I don't think any rom hacking should be required.

The radio rom is missing totally. There is no option for switching bands ( i think it's auto-sensing anyway ). There even no IMEI number showing up in the device details screens.

I've sent the device back to UAE for repair...

Yes it sounds like a factory issue then.

Hi Rob,

Sorry, but I have to correct you here, the 900 Mhz band is not used in
the USA for GSM. The 900 Mhz Band was the first band used for GSM
phones in Europe and the rest of the world _except_ North America.

Due to several reasons, a new band was allocated for GSM usage, the
1800 Mhz. Now most non-us phones do standard and 900 and 1800.

North America reserved the 1900 Mhz band for GSM, since the 900 and
1800 frequencies were already in use for other purposes. Now there are
also GSM operators working on 850 Mhz. So, the latest 'world' phones
are called 'quadband' to be able to work in all four bands.

Willem.

wmeter,

Your correct. It is my understanding that ATT USA is going to the 850MHz for all their new towers.
