Specification of fix:
"i-mate™ is aware of the problems being experienced with the i-mate™ PDA2k Bluetooth. We are delivering a compete fix in two stages. The first patch increases the scan time of the i-mate™ PDA2k when searching for other nearby Bluetooth devices, thus improving other devices detectability. If the required devices are not identified after this extended period, pressing the scan again button will repeat the search. It does not address the device turning itself on all the time either. It is a joke. They are not fixing the things that are really broken.

May not be IMate's fault...... of course they could have probably stuck with the lousy MS BT Stack.. might be less problems.. but anyway.. Its the OS..Remember the 32 process limitation that's still there? well. there is also a limitation on driver memroy.. I found this link that might help..
http://www.pocketfms.com/2-knownissues.htm
"The Bluetooth Radio failed to turn ON due to Insufficient driver memory available. Especially in PocketPC 2003 the Bluetooth Manager has been equipped with a lot of extra options like File Transfer, Audio Gateway and so on. If you go to Bluetooth settings and disable all services except for the Bluetooth serial port, a lot more driver memory will be available. Furthermore it's best to turn the Bluetooth radio on (and sometimes to connect to the GPS, configuration depending) prior to starting PocketFMS."
Doesn't fix the problem.. but its probably the same problem across the board for a number of devices out there..
Do a Search on Google for pocketpc "driver memory" .. you'll notice we're not alone... Then check the newsgroups.. the xda IIs has the same issue : http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&client=firefox-a&threadm=uOPkoisxEHA.2540%40TK2MSFTNGP09.phx.gbl&rnum=1&prev=/groups%3Fq%3Dpocketpc%2B%2522driver%2Bmemory%2522% 26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26sa%3DN%26scoring%3Dd

umm.. U DON'T HAVE TO YELL AT PEOPLE.. All I was trying to do was pass along any information that might help the situation.... Also, make note that IMate is the only device to experience these issues.. HP and Ipaqs have the same issues....
I for one have not had any major problems with the bluetooth driver(knock on wood). I turn it on and off a lot and only rarely do I see the driver memory issue. However, I do see it more often when I turn on/off the WLAN driver for wireless access. I also tend to use GPRS a lot and have not had issues with the bluetooth with GPRS. I also use a bluetooth GPS unit... I have it bonded to an Sony Bluetooth HB-35 headset as well.

lol sorry, it wasnt yelling, i was actually just making main points bold... we are all suffering from this issue it's time for them to fix it.

11-11-2004, 09:59 PM
Complaining to Carrier Devices will help a little...but the key point here is that this goes beyond them.. I think it has more to do with Microsoft and Broadcom(they bought widcomm). Microsoft and their stupid limitations on the pocketpc operating system and Broadcom committing to enhancing their widcomm drivers so as to not use heaping loads of memory..
I agree it needs to get fixed.. however, these fixes will take time and sometimes might take months to fix as you can see from all the other issues revolving around the Ipaqs...

I've got the same problems with the T-Mobile MDAIII - not enought driver memory, turns itself on, licence has expired, rebonding. These things really should have been sorted before now, considering that for the last twelve months we've all put up with similar problems on the XDAII.

This should fix the license expiry for the Imate. I received it via email from their tech support.. according to their tech support.. you can choose any of the key addresses...They sent it to me even though I never received the license expiry issue.
As for constantly turning on.. read someone on Howardforums on a possible workaround -> http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?s=5211773ec7fa981de40204e0c3d50658&threadid=495366&perpage=15&pagenumber=2

Hi Firebird
I installed the patch on my MDA3 but now I can not pair it with my Motorola HS810.
It does pair with the Ericsson HBH-20 with no problem.
How can I erase/turn back the BT setting to the original BT setup.
Thanks.

The thread doesn't say this, it says a bluetooth patch is going to be released. It also doesn't say an upgrade to 2.0, but a patch (infering the patch everyone is waiting for).

Does the Bluetooth Patch change any of the settings or menus on the BT Manager or BT Settings?
Club i-mate states you can scan again to getting pairing. I have upgraded, but I don't see anything that inidcates scan again. Perhaps I'm taking this language to literal.

Hi,
is it me, or does a faster bluetooth standard also need different hardware? I mean, USB 2.0 needed a different bus design... anybody on this?

Your quote is correct, but I believe what you think it says is incorrect. Notice he said "the highly-expected Bluetooth correction", never has a v2.0 patch been expected. It was only just released (ratified), do you really believe CD would do that. Their latest unit (Jam) only has Bluetooth 1.2.
I wish you were right, but I don't think so.

For Bluetooth v2.0 you need software (the stack) and also hardware. I've been talking with one of the stack makers and from what I've gathered, the 2.0 standard needs new chips for the standard to work correctly. Broadcom has the older chips that support 1.1 and now 1.2. They also have some new chips that do 2.0 now and have a faster base bus. The faster bus is needed for EDR since EDR is not only compression/encryption but also a base speed boost. I don't think anyone will be releasing the 2.0 stacks yet since 1.2 stacks still aren't available. It all depends on which chip you are using for Bluetooth.

I have a XDA IIs with widcomm Bluttooth stack v1.0.0 build 1900. Tried to upgrade to new 1.5 stack by copying all the new files into Window directory. After soft reset, the bluetooth stack is updated but my BT headset can't be used anymore. All phone calls can't be diverted to BT headset although the headset itself can be connected without problem. Do I need any registry hack for the new version?

Don't worry you are not missing anything, the 'new' bluetooth patch doesnt do ANYTHING at all, it doenst solve any problems, those people at i-mate are idiots. THe new patch just "extends the discovery time of the bluetooth when finding new devices". As if we need that, i pair with all my devices just fine.

Exactly the PDA2K is a downgrade.
Bt no better, actually worse in many ways.
Processor speed slower with actual use, regardless if they are both 400 mhz.
Device is lest stable than it's predessor.
And a few other things.

I have installed it. I havent check the BT connectivity yet, but the Built Number is now 3500 ! :D
Hi,
ok... I've installed it... and there is definitely an improvement, however my connection is still far from acceptable... the headset is now correctly activated when a phone call is placed (haven't check incoming on standby yet)... the connection seems to be much more reliable now... I am using a rather uncommon headset from Europe... called B-Speech plus.
The quality of the connection did get slightly better, but I can't be more than 2-3 feet away from the MDAIII... then the connection drops off into red and the sound quality is terrible... it still works about 5-6 feet away, but only very poorly.

i am trying now with 2 head set, Omiz and motorola HS801
@basicly, the bt head set is responced with incomming call even the device is suspending. but not so quick responce.
means the device is responced wake up, and ringing at first with incomig call, then aftre many ringing, finaly head set wake up. too late responce.
@while using the BT, the incomming windows comes very late. cant find who`s calling in.
@tested several times, the connection with BT head set will be disconected automaticuly. once disconected it can`t connect automaticaly and manualry. must be soft reset or turn off and turn on BT function on devise.
then it can be connected again. it can`t say fixed complietly, i think.
Also sometimes BT head set can`t responce.i think it no use. just wast 4mb memory of Blue Angel.
No uninstall sysytem for this patch. PLS do not wast Memory. i can not believe i-mate why this can be published!
Also tried to use this new patch with OzBT, seems to be worked.or that was better. this was my result.
this is the last my test with peviouse patch&OZBT.

That's because they just make the bluetooth STAY ON once you turn it on, then it wont have problems, but if you manually turn it off and on and off and on and a few time you will get the error msg again, they didnt fix the problem, they just got around it. At least it's useable now, you just have to turn it on and leave it on.

The other two cab files were released by Dangaard for the Qtek 9090 they upgrade the bluetooh stack to 3500 from build 2200.
I haven't had the chance to check them out yet but will post the results in a day or so.
Just installed and played around with the new bluetooth fix on my i-Mate PDA2k, in short: yet another disappointment.
1. Still have the insufficient driver memory issue.
2. Headset and wake-up function is not good enough.
I.e. an incoming call does wake up the PDA2k in suspended mode (it rings there first), but the PDA2k takes too long to connect to my my Sony Ericson HBH 35 bluetooth headset and hence the call gets lost in this way...
3. I also noticed that when using the bluetooth headset, the call ID window showed rather late, obliging me to gamble between accepting an unwanted call or missing a required/wanted call...
In conclusion, the fix does not really seem to fix my issues. :(
Cheers,
Bins

Download it, copy it to your device through Activesync, and it works like charm on my XDAIIs asian version, even after long sleep (more than 30 mnt) when I've got a call, it automatically transfers to my BT Headset (O2 Blue). No more sleeping issues with my XDAIIs. :D
You ran the CAB neat without any tweaking Bro?

yap! run the CAB with NO modification.
But it seems that the Audio cracking noise still exist if I put the XDAIIs more than 50cm from the BT Headset.

Good news for Xda IIs!
Reason I asked was I spent a good whole hour trying to get this baby up on my Xda II running on WM2003SE.
It finally only worked after some heavy tweaking.

Do you have to disable the MS BT stack in the registry? I'd the
"insufficient memory" issue all the time.

Resurrecting DEAD threads from December 2004 will only serve to confuse the unwary! If you NEED this patch, go to the iMate website, register your phone and download it. *sigh* FYI: The patch has been incorporated into the WM2003 ROMs released since.
