Customized 1.72.187 Extended ROM (No Blackberry)

I have received requests to customize the 1.72.187 UK ROM for Asian users. As requested, here it is.

This extended ROM is based on the latest UK release of 1.72.187, and was customized for asian users of the XDA II.

All the latest versions of the software in the base ROM are included, minus all O2 UK custom settings and software, however all configuration settings are set to the old Asian extended ROM version 1.60.44.

I also added the latest drivers/software for the Socket Communications SDIO Wifi card and the XDA II Thumb Keyboard which automatically install as a part of the post install tasks.

I had to remove the Java MIDlet Manager included in the base ROM since the size limit of the extended ROM was exceeded, and I also removed the O2 Active UI since it is customized for O2 UK users. I included the installer .CAB file for the MIDlet Manager in the .ZIP file so that it can be installed manually after the ROM upgrade if desired.



CHANGES from the other custom ROM (1.72.181):

1. Based on the UK ROM version 1.72.187
2. No Blackberry support
3. Added the ClearType font fix from ROM version 1.60.44
4. Added the Extended ROM Viewer patch (Extended ROM can now be seen in File Explorer)


I have already tested it on my Xda II and I had no problems with flashing it and I am currently experiencing no issues with it whatsoever.

When the SRS backporting to the Xda II is at its most stable stage, I will include it in the extended ROM, as of now I feel its still unstable, although I feel that the guys working on it are doing an excellent job (my personal opinion).

To use the file is just 3 steps:
1. Extract the contents of the original UK ROM update (Xda_II_172187_Final.exe) into any directory of your choice with WinZip.
2. Extract the ms_.nbf from the custom ROM I posted into the same directory that you extracted the files from step 1, overwriting the original ms_.nbf.
3. Run the HimaUpgradeUt.exe executable to flash your device.

The password is for users whou would like to further customize the ROM where openning it up requires a password. I only posted the extended ROM since it was the only part of the original ROM that was customized, and posting the entire ROM would just result in a larger download.

Not sure whether it is the wlan software has some conflicts with the C-guys driver, have uninstalled the wlan software and will try the C-guys card again.

Yes! The problem is resolved by removing the wlan software in the ext rom.

Extended ROM 1.60.44 is an official Asian release, it's UK equivalent is 1.60.50.

JAVA_PPC_10.1.0.17_HIMA_WWE(unremovable).CAB is the Java MIDlet Manager that comes stock with the new official releases of the UK ROM. I had to remove it from the extended ROM since it took up too much space and the Asian customizations would not all fit. I just included it in the .ZIP file for users who need or want it. Since it is a .CAB file, it can be installed separately after flashing your ROM, it is not a necessity anyway, except for those who need it.

i successfully upgrade my unit from a 1.66WWE to the file you attach. i may have found a bug, my sandisk wifi card would no longer functioned... at first, i thought it was a software glitch, so i remove the sandisk drivers and reinstalled them, but no luck, the wifi connection cannot even see the sd card, thel LED on the card does not light up anymore. even the socket wifi software cannot see my card. but the unit has no problem seeing my sandisk 512mb memory card.

Any help would really be appreciated.

PS. i was not able to make a copy of my old ROM, can i restore back if i had a copy of the old ROM? my bootloader version is 1.06

It happens from time to time, its a glitch in either the driver or WIndows Mobile itself, or maybe in the way it was implemented.

When this happens to me, I just do a soft rest, then everything is back to normal.

I installed pocket plus 2.2 & didn't turn off the today plugin, the unit hardresets itself the next morning. and whoa, the socket wifi driver worked. just for kicks i tried installing the WM2K3SE by dcs, i was able to install the rom by was not able to input anything when prompted(something about TP... enabled/disable) and i was not able to install the extROM coz i can't input when prompted. i'm really not that good, so i may have commited a few mistakes. the end result was really weird, the backlight goes on/off intermittently. programs will not run, etc. in the end i had to revert back to your 1.72WWE version.

BTW, how's the SE version asian EXTROM coming along, i'm really itching for your version.

Sorry for the late reply. I am also running SPB Plus 2.2, and this does not happen to me. From my experience these sort of occurences are usually caused by certain combinations of software that could be in conflict with each other.

I will be posting a version 2 of the WM2003SE ROM, on thats based on the O2 Xda IIs Asian extended ROM.
