The ExtROM of the MDA Compact (aka XDAIIi, Magician) can be accessed by soft-resetting AFTER having gone thru the initial startup (calibrate screen and all that) and BEFORE the customisation.
The ExtROM will then be visible.
Normally during customisation "Delete_vdisk_shortcut_ger.cab" or (a similar cab on non-T-Mobile Magician) will make the ExtROM invisible. The ExtROM stays locked, so you can only copy things off!!
In the ExtROM appear to be ywo interesting cabs:
- "T9.cab"or "Intellipad.cab" which contains a new SIP with T9 facilities. Should work flawlessly on ie a Himalaya.
- "IntelliDailer.cab" which contains the new dialer which features a T9 contact lookup. On ppc-welt.info it was stated that it doesnt work flawlessly on a Himalaya, but maybe that can be figured out?
There are some german language versions going round, but I also see the need of getting the English language versions of both IntelliPad and Intellidialer . . .

Thanks, I will try/test something with it.
Hopefully the English version pops up one of these days.
BTW, I opened the cab that hides the ExTROM (aka VDisk) on Magician. In it there is a xml-file that seems to do the hiding trick:
<characteristic type="HKCU\Software\HTC\Customize">
<parm name="DelFileCount" value="1" datatype="integer" />
<parm name="DelFile1" value="\Windows\AutoStart\LoadVDisk.lnk" datatype="string" />
</characteristic>
Should be possible to create a CAB that inverts this hiding . . . .(I gues by removing the two keys DelFileCount and DelFile1)

I have tried to install intellidialer.cab,
but I only see my dial skin changed to T-mobile style,
how to enable the T9 dialer ? any ideas ?

mmm, that definitely IS the question.
isnt there any tools/setting option?
I noticed this new dialer also has the 'old style' pictures in it. Guess it is possible to choose between onld-style-dialer and IntelliDialer then.

seems to work great on sorting contacts on PDA2K.
After installing I switched my dial pad skin back to xda skin chooser and all works great.

Steve: You got it working then?
Must be the WM2003SE os the Blue Angel features (and the Himalaya lacks . . .)
For now: Pity for us . . . .

My biggest wishlist...
Possible to add Blackberry Connect extracted from XDA II and cook it in this XDA IIi ExtROM?

I don't know if it helps but on Compactjam I read the following:
To view or hide the EXTENDED_ROM of the MDA Compact without a hard reset, do the following...
Edit the registry key...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ VDisk\ and add a DWord key with the follwing value:
To hide...
MountFlags=1
To Show...
MountFlags=0
...and do a soft reset.

Well you must be doing something wrong then. I just tried it and I can indeed show or hide the Extended_ROM.
It didnt work on mine as well. :(
My VDisk reg setting reads:
Folder : Extended_Rom
MountFlags : 0 (added by me)
Name : Extended_Rom
Is it any difference from yours?

didnt work on mine also :(
You don't need to change anything in registry.
Just run \Windows\LoadVDisk.exe to see Extended Rom folder.
This folder will be visible without soft reset.
After soft reset you don't see it again.

Just go to your WIndows folder and scroll down, you will see a file named LoadVdisk.exe, run it and you will see the ext rom folder. Worked on my MDA Compact.
