View Full Version : Upgrade to WM2003SE will void your local warranty! BEWARE!

Hi everyone,
I've just had a word with O2 xda2 helpdesk and this is their concern towards WM2003SE!
"ANY UPGRADING ROM OTHER THAN THE ONE FROM MYXDA.COM WILL VOID THE WARRANTY OF YOUR XDA COMPLETELY!
This is no matter how new is your device (or just 1 day old only), once you flash it wif an unknown source rom, it will void your valuable local warranty of 1 year!!!
So I'm basically trapped in this situation.....(Just to remind those who intend to do the upgrade of WM2003SE). Nevertheless, you still can wait for the official launch of new rom from www.myxda.com in the 1st quarter of the year!
But if you cant stand the temptation like me, well this is the price to pay. From now on, any defect on the hardware, o2 will no longer give any warranty and i got to dig out my own pocket money.
Lets pray hard for nothing would happend to my device for 1 year..... :(

Well can't you revert back to the previous rom?!?!?! bcz it's impossible that they will know what you've did unless you told them!

If you can upgrade, you can always downgrade before sending in... don't let those helpdesk people stop you... they are nonsense and knows nothign about their product.
Cheers to these guru here that helps solve most of the issue except hardware parts faulty.
I have tired downgraded from 1.72 to 1.60 vice-versa without any issue. So why bother about them.
Frankly speaking, I would never call their pathetic helpdesk...

i think most of us here knows that :D but nice warning anyway :D
if you're not on 1.06 bootloader, you can just downgrade your ROM and send it in for servicing anyway, they can't tell.

Good try there. But by downgrading to 1.72WWE will also considered voiding the warranty. I tried to downgrade to 1.60Asia Rom but failed.
Unless someone can shed some light on how to downgrade it back to 1.60Asia Rom with 1.06 bootloader???
Anyway, the guy in o2 helpdesk said they know how to recognize whether the device is upgraded to any rom before. No way you can run away from them even though you don tell them....

Wow u really a nice bro....Well i'll exchange wif you once i detect any defect or hardware related problem. Is that what you mean?
 Haha! sorry for being so sarcastic. No, i just wanted to remind those who considered the repercussions of upgrading your device if you got the bootloader 1.06.
Nevertheless, cheers on u guys (who owns below 1.06 bootloader). Congratulations! Life is about sharing not to put anyone in trouble!

ANY upgrade / change to your device other than supplied & approced by the vendor (ie. O2, T-Mobile, Qtek, CDL, Orange and what have you) WILL POSSIBLY VOID WARRANTY.
Of course they will have to have a good story if they withdraw warranty following a app install, but what about unhiding/unlocking the ExtROM and not to mention upgrading os and/or radio stacks.
If you do not want to have any risk: Stay with the original ROM
If you want to have a working device: Upgrade to your liking BUT KEEP A DOWNGRADE PACKAGE / IMAGE AT HAND IN CASE YOU NEED TO RELY ON WARRANTY.
(which does not rescue you if you end up with a dead device)

Whats so different about the bootloader 1.06 anyway. i've upgraded from an 1.66wwe ->1.72wwe--> 2.02WWE then back an 1.72wwe, does that mean that my device will keep a record of my misadventures?
thanks

When I had my first XDA I used to have continous crashes where the unit would not charge, switch on until I left the battery out of it overnight at which point if I put it back in it would hard reset itself after the back up battery was emptied.
Returned it within 3 weeks they gave me a new one as they connect fix them where I bought it.
New one had same problem but less frequent.
I started searching the forums and came here and started learning about my unit.
Since my origial 1.66 version I have had 2 versions of 1.72 with my own cooked ext rom. And now am running 2.06 with 1.18 radio and a cooked ext rom.
I've ripped out anything to do with O2 on my unit and it is the most stable it has ever been.
Remember what we have is a Windows operating system which on non phone based pda's works efficiently and faultless. It wasn't till all the phone operators who think they know about software started messing with their customised cabs to make it look like theirs that windows becomes unstable.
I would not be surprised if the 2.06 from mystery man was leaked on purpose, as this is a common thing for large corporations to do if they know there is a problem with previously released operating systems and the manufacturers are not intending to release an upgrade in order to encourage the sale of new hardware.
Remember when your Himalaya unit messes up most people go these Windows Mobile devices are rubbish as this is the name that is embedded on the casings. I'm sure that Microsoft as a corporation are fully aware of this and it is generally in their interest to release more stable ROM's through forums like this.
It's funny how quickly a stable English ROM surfaced once translation started on the Chinese one.
Assuming you are not going to throw your unit at a wall, drop it in the toilet, run over it etc etc then the warranty is not really required. Worse case scenario I report it lost/stolen to my household insurance provider and get a brand new one! At which time I will quite happily rip the rom again :D

Just to clarify slightly - I was working on the update I posted prior to the chinese ROM appearing. In fact the original image I used was months old :) and was not an installable package, but a memory dump. The mystery man update did appear after the Chinese ROM and was an installation package and therefore was probably posted by a person who thought 'well the chinese one is out officially, so what the heck' after a lot of pressure from pleading XDA II users on this forum :)
