View Full Version : Is there a call minute monitor program available for xda2?

So Just confirming Darek, on your Network you get the pop ups and they are able to be imported and show up in DKtoday, but you have tried on another network and it doesn't work for that network?
I would assume that each network has an individual code of some sort. Perhaps you either need to allow for that code when "scanning" the cell name, or otherwise ignore it completely.
As mentioned above, DKtoday does do something when the cell changes, as the plugin "flickers" on the screen when I get a cell SMS, but for some reason it can't get the information out.
Let us know if there's anything you want any of us to try as obviously we're all eager to get this working if possible.
Thanks again for all your efforts!

Can anyone give me some detailed instructions as to how to go about updating Dktoday so that the version reads correctly. At the moment it says it is v1.73, even though I have installed v1.79.
I have looked in the windows folder on my PPC, but can't see an obvious dktoday.dll - how and with what would I replace it with so that the version reads correctly?
Thanks

This is a marvellous piece of software. The way I upgraded mine was to first remove the old version 1.73 and then located the DKtoday.dll file in windows and remove it. Then I simply reinstalled the updated version.
The only issue I still have is that I cannot change the amount of time used, i.e it says 3 hours 13 when actually it's 4 hours 44 mins. Anyone got any tips.

Thank you dkot for this wonderfull plugin (you are a lifesaver)
i would like to report some bugs if you don't mind :(or maybe i don't know how to solve them)
1) if i choose option round up 1 min it round up the today calls but not the month calls
just like moonbeam says:
The only issue I still have is that I cannot change the amount of time used, i.e it says 3 hours 13 when actually it's 4 hours 44 mins. Anyone got any tips.
2) when i miss or ignore a call the blutooth stays on and does not get back off and that drains the batterie
is there a way to control the bluetooth thingie
ex: checkbox for enable bluetoth headset oncall activation
it is a great option but it might be better if we were able to disable from time to time
thank you very much for this great work

Are you sure, that your bt was turned off before ? Dktoday leaves bt in state it was before call was made (in theory ;) ).
I will check it out once more...

dkot, this is a great piece of software, getting better in every release...
I have a couple of questions/comments...
1 - I turned on SMS notification and now everytime I send an SMS, I get an SMS telling me that the delivery was successful. SO it works.. my questions is do I get charged for this notification by the provider? i.e. is it like an extra SMS or just an internal thing.
2 - Cell info is still not working. I followed Mitty's instructions but it still doesnt work. Is there anything else I can do?
3 - I have installed the Bluesoleil Bluetooth stack so i am not using the default MS BT stack that came with my PPC. I am rumming WM2003SE. But the BT icon in dktoday doesnt work. It doesnt start my BT. This is i am sure related to the bluesoleil stack.. Any idea how this can be made to work.
thank.

Ad.1. This notification is free of charge
Ad.2. I have no idea, how to solve this problem. In my network everything works fluently, I get special kind of SMS with cell information and this information is showed immediatelly on DKToday's screen. If I didn't get this SMS I would not be able to show cell infos :(. Then only way to get this info is to ask GSM modem directly for cell infos.
Ad.3. BT option works only with M$ BT
I'm going to go on my holiday :) :) :), so please be patient. I will make all needed changes when I will be back ( probably in August).

Hi Darek,
i like your program very much. I have some suggestions to make it perfect:
1. Possibility to enter the amount of free minutes per month. There a billing models where you buy f.e. 50 Minutes per month for a fix amount. Together with the round-up-option you could see, how many minutes are left.
2. The possibility to display usage-reports of all the call from actual month and last month to compare with the bill from the phone company.
(Maybe you could compare your prog with the phone dashboard minute tracker from hudsonmobile...) Your prog could be the No.1.
Kind regards from Moltobene!

I've been using dkot's amazing plugin for a while now and havent encountered any problems. Although I noticed that while the today minutes will round off to 1 minute, the same round off feature is not working on the monthly minutes. You see our network here rounds off calls to 1 minute so rounding off the same in the monthly tally would greatly help. Thanks.

I have dktoday installed in my qtek s100 and I have notice that if you want to count the sms you have to ask for delivery confirmation.
Also with Orange swiss, if I activate the cell info, pop ups with the cell info continuously come and unfortunately not after the orange, ...
For the rest is a "must"!! Great job!!

Hi!
I'm using dktoday, too, and I'm really impressed.
Still, I have one question. My phone-bill rounds up to the full minute during the first minute of a call. After the first minute it rounds up to 10 Seconds.
So, I would like dktoday to round up calls, that take less than a minute up to the full minute, and calls that take longer than one minute up to 10 seconds. Is that possible?
Thanks so much for the help!

Kai86,
Of course it is possible but I'm wondering how to solve this problem for ever. I've spent a lot of time for implementing/testing many round up options. There is hard to test it because I have to make a call, and after that I have to check if it was counted correct or not. I understand, that all of you want to have implemented method used by your operator so as I see it, it is never ending story.
Maybe the best way would be to implement any script for rounding up call time. For example it gets as parameters numbers of call time seconds and script as a text (for example if ( seconds < 60) return 60 else return seconds) and it returns rounded up number of seconds. I have no idea at this moment how to implement this but maybe there is anybody who can prepare this script as C++ function. I'm ready for any cooperation.

Here's the link.

I think since myself and a couple of other people have noted and brought up the quicker drain of battery while dktoday is running, if the concepts discussed in this blog are incorporated into dktoday, then this super excellent application can become even more super-er excellent-er :)

Hi Darek,
First of all... Thumbs up from an Israeli i-mate owner. I use your application and just love it. Thanks.
I think there's a little bug in it. I work at an underground based computer lab. It's inside something like a shelter (That means no signal at all). When I go out to see some sky, I'm going up the stairs and see 0% of signal, then 100%, then 0% again and after that a normal increase.
It seems 100% is a default when the radio checks itself / finds the cell for the first time / etc... You can see it if you'll enable and disable flight mode: There'll be a brief 100% false-signal before a real 0%.
I hope it's understood. :)

I don't think that's a good idea, because this programm should not only be used by programmers but also by users like me - I think. I probably wouldn't be able to arrange the script by my self. Well, could ask a friend of mine, but probably a lot of people can't.
Wouldn't it be possible to put a 2nd query in the settings. I mean, where you can already set dktoday to round up to 1 min, 1 second etc. This query should have an option to say for how many seconds this specification are relevant. After that the actual settings are relevant.
Just a thought - but I have no clue how to put this into practis

Please uncheck dktoday on today's list and then copy new dll into windows directory.
Problem you described, I've already corrected in earier version.
Kai84,
Sorry but you look for this from your narrow perspective. Ofcourse, the simplest way is to implement any wanted alghoritm but try to look for this from my perspective... How for example implement using your method following alghorithm:
1. every call not longer then 3 minutes is rounded up to 30 seconds
2. minute 4 and next is rounded up to 15 seconds
What do you think about that ?
You wrote about people who cannot write this script theirself but from my perspective is simpler to write this script for them then to change soft for everybody. As you probably know new software must be tested again and many times I changed something wrong so many people got a problem to make 1 man happy. It is not good for me and for them, I think too...
Using script we can for example implement also counting down method ( you have for example 60 minutes per mounth and every call you've made decrease amount of minutes) or conversion SMSem to minutes. Ofcourse to implement this we should implement many scripts. This is still an idea and I'm waiting for any other proposal.
Iceblade,
I know about this bug but I threat it as a minor bug so it is waiting for its time :)
humayunl,
I've already add feature, that dktoday monitors power off event and then it stops perform any operation so I've no idea why it still drains your battery. I've not observed this situation on my mda compact yet
Sergio_Bandeira,
Yes, I think that external file (xml, ini, txt) would be the best, but our decision depends on how we want to parse this file. I hope we can find anybody who has already prepared any parser which could be used for our case....
Thanks and regards,
Darek

Hello Darek!
I am now using your Plugin (ver1.80), every think works correctly, I love it very much! Thank you and here are some ideas:
1. It seems better if you add some functions when tapping each area on DK line, i.e the same function when tapping the original signal strength on the topbar (show a bubble?).
2. Is there any other way to count the SMS(s) without getting deliver notifications? Some people don't like to get the notification after sending a message!
3. I think that you should add the function to open the call list when tapping the missed calls line. And it's better if you don't fix this line for missed calls only, i means that you should use this line for the last call (number and call type (missed, incoming or outgoing)).
4. Is It possible to add the Notification Icon on the DK?
Hope that I am right!
Thank you!

Do you get delivery notification from your network ? This is sine qua non condition to make SMS counter working.
I don't know why sms notification sound doesn't work on your mda. DKToday doesn't change anything in system settings.

Love this little program guys. Just a shame that we dont get the cell id coming up as expected. The little balloon pops up but doesnt show in DkToday.
There must be a difference in how operators send the cell id. From my testing in Australia all of the operators (Telstra. Vodafone, Optus) all show as the pop up balloon and not in DkToday.

Gugi,
What you see it is send notification not delivery notification, that is why your SMS counter doesn't work.
Delivery notification is sent by network, when recipient gets your message. Send notification is generated by Pocket outlook when it sent the message.

I will try to prepare any test software to test why don't you get cellid into dktoday, but it takes a time. Will be in touch.

What you see it is send notification not delivery notification, that is why your SMS counter doesn't work.
Delivery notification is sent by network, when recipient gets your message. Send notification is generated by Pocket outlook when it sent the message.
I have spent the last few hours reading the 13 pages on this topic, all to get the SMS counter working. I have since learnt that unless the code is altered to count notifications from outlook, or whatever sms utility is used, I won't be able to count SMS.
See: http://www.mtekk.com.au/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6550
you also pay for the notification SMSes (at least you do in Australia on Vodafone and Optus)
And also, I am getting the Cell Info Broadcasts, but cannot get it to appear in DKToday plugin.

Are there going to be no more releases of this software now then?....if not then that is a great shame as this is potentially an EXCELLENT plug-in and VERY useful.
Only snag i have found with it is that the SMS timer doesn't work and when you get a missed call sometimes you can't read all the data as it is too long and goes off the screen (maybe a 4th line would have been better)
Cheers

You probably have problem with outlook database. It is known issue.
To clear timers simle clear call log and change round up option to different one and next, change it back.

Hi Darek,
if I can say my own considerations, I have to say dktoday is great. There are only a couple of things I would ask for:
- pls always distribute full progs
- pls always include a readme with full docs
I know it takes time to set up docs, but this discussion is getting bigger and bigger and it is becoming quite hard to follow all the hints about counters and cell settings.

I went into the phone options -> More -> Enable Broadcas Channel and configure the 050 channel.
I properly receive the SMS with the location info but DKToday seems not to intercept the sms and thus does not display the info.

First of all i want to congratulate & thank Darek Kot in particular and other writers of Free software in general for their great Efforts.
Just wanted to add my request in the wish list.
The company whose services i am using rounds up on 60 secs i.e. if its 61 secs it would be considered a two minute call. It would be great for us if there is some option which when selected can notify the user (during the call) that lets say 45 secs have passed for the first minute and then for the 2nd minute etc.. This would greatly help.
Thanks

Hi - just wanted to say thanks.... I'm using this software now on my Vario and will let you know if I find any bugs.
Out of intrest where do the mothly counters come from ? How do they know its the change of the month and is it possible to build in to the next version what date that would be ? ( ie 1st 5th etc )

In my version (1.79) you can set that in the options. Go to start-settings-today, slect the tab items, select the today plug-in of dktoday and click options. There you can set round-up options and the date of the month that it should reset to 0.

Hi Derek (or anyone that can help),
I have a iMate JAM device and i just installed the DKToday (1.
I have noticed 2 things:
1. Reception bar is always on 00%, only when i get sms or something
kind of bubble notification, i can see it updating (with color bars),
but once click ok on the bubble it goes down to 00%.
2. Bluetooth is always disabled, when i try to turn it on it says
that i should first turn flight mode off..., no need to mention
its already off...

Thanks,

dkot, this really is a great piece of software you made for tracking call time.
In order to accurately show the time for billing I would suggest that you provide two round up time values in seconds.
a) Minimum call duration charged
b) Time interval charged after this.
ex1. my provider charges a minimum of one minute per call and the used seconds after this. So I would like to enter
60s and 1s meaning round up to 60s for calltime <60s and no rounding for call time >60s
ex2. Some other providers use 60s and 10s after that
So enter 60 and 10 would round up to 60 for all call times < 60
and round up to 10s interval for call time > 60
I hope you could include this in your great software.
Another suggestion would be to display the estimated monthly time in a separate line.
Greetings, Chris

Has anyone got the SMS counter to work on O2 UK? I don't seem to get any delivery reports from O2, and hence the counter doesn't go up. I'm using a K-Jam.

there seems to be some compatibility issues with my Windows Mobile 5 (aka WM2005). I can't seems to find the 'settings' page for the DKToday. Someone want to confirm this?

mine (v 1.79) works fine on WM5, go to start-settings-today-items, tap on the DKToday plug-in and click options. you should be able to find it there.

Silly me :) I've found it. It seems to be working. Sorry for being paranoid because there are like more than 50% of the software I've got from the net doesn't seems to support WM5.

I have taken some time off to compile the DKToday 1.80 DLL into the cab file. Enjoy.

I am new here so please be gentle with me!
First of all, thank Darek for this excellent utility -very useful as the o2 XDA II seems to have a call counter that has just run since I bought this and is keeping a very useful total of calls made and received .
 If this is getting updated (though I note DKot has not responded since August when he said he was switching to another PDA) then there is a slight typo in the settings - "Count incomming call time" should be "Count incoming call time". It would also be useful, if possible, to monitor GPRS use (in minutes and/or KB) to monitor usage.
:?: After I installed DKToday, it has up to date information on calls made (identical to my online bill with o2 - as I am half way through my billing cycle, where has the counter picked this up from?) but it has not picked up SMS information. I manually made the changes required in the registry but the count still has not updated (sent a few texts to test it but still shows 000). Am I missing something please?
 In response to the question above by thegeezer, to install:
1. Make sure that your computer is linked to your XDA (I use Activesync and a cable to USB).
2. Log in to this site and go to the message above by Othello and save CAB (installation version) 1.80 to your computer (DKToday-1.80.ARMV4.CAB - http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=9224). If you have winzip installed on your computer, it shows as the same icon - DO NOT UNZIP.
3. Using Windows Explorer, copy the file DKToday-1.80.ARMV4.CAB and paste it into Mobile Device>My Documents.
4. On your Xda, go into Start>Programs>File Explorer>My Documents and double click on DKToday-1.80.ARMV4.CAB. This will install the program.
5. Soft reset your Xda (using your Xda pen, click on the button on the bottom left of the Xda - it is the very small black circle).
:D Voila - it should now be showing on your Today screen.
:!: To change settings: Start>Settings>Today>Items> click on DKToday then Options. Here you can change rounding up, what month start date you want etc.
Final point - on the Today screen, if you click on the network name it switches the Xda off (I found it is meant to do that after reading through all 14 pages!).
If you need to edit your registry as some mention on this thread (something to do with counting SMSs), Mobile Registry Editor seems to do the trick (works on your home computer to make changes on the XDA). Available free from http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=1399.
Good luck

DKToday is really nice, however I have some problems on my Tmobile MDA Vario (qtek 9100, with WM5.0):
If I have been connected to my PC for a while throught ActiveSync over USB and I disconnect it. Everything on my PDA/Phone starts to be slow. Image refresh is really slow and battery is being drained. If I then go to the Today settings and disable DKToday everything is fine again. Even if I reenalbe it everything stays fine.
I am I the only one? And is there a solution?

Which version did you install? The cab file 1.80 posted above, or one from Darek that you have to do the 1.8 manually?

I used the one from Darek in which I had to copy the DLL file.
Is there a difference?
-EDIT-
just checked the 1.8 CAB, but it gives me the same result. After being connected for an hour via USB. A disconnect gives the problems.

I installed DKTOday 1.79 cab then added in the 1.8 dll on Tuesday (they the 1.80 cab was uploaded  ).
Anyway, I got round to upgrading the software from a hard reset today to bring everything up to date (according to the o2 website anyway).
New installation is now:
ROM 1.72.00WWE (from 1.60WWE)
ROM Date 15/3/04
Radio Version 1.17.00 (from 1.10)
Protocol 1337.28
ExtROM version 1.72.181
When I installed the other day, DKToday picked up the total call time for the past month from somewhere (o2), then started recording time daily from then on (apart from SMS - still not counting that despite changing the settings in Reg). After the latest install using the 1.80 cab (by Othello above), it is now not counting the total call time for the month and has returned to 0.
Is there something else I need to change? I didn't change any settings last week and it recorded the time (exactly as indicated on the o2 website for unbilled calls) but with the updated ROM and updated DKToday, something has changed that may require a tweak.
Many thanks

OK, I just checked this morning: something is definetely causing DKToday to become more and more CPU greedy during time. Yesterday night everything was OK, but in the morning: my PDA/Phone was slow again. After disabling DKToday all was fine again.
Could this be because of Windows Mobile 5?

Looks an excellent program, I installed it yesterday.
O2 UK doesn't send true delivery notifications. You can get it to send a message back with *0# at the start of your text, but this only sends you a text back and not a proper delivery message. Does this mean that the SMS counter will not work?
Could I suggest that the app counts the number of SMS and MMS in both "Sent Items" folders, and calculates the number of messages sent on or after the month start date?
Thanks!

I do have a better idea but no source code. Now if only I had the code, I would do something about it. One way would be to use the code in the wiki:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/RIL
Instead of counting messages which can be deleted, why not count events or notifications which have to be delivered anyway?
Just a suggestion, what I say may not make sense as it's past midnight here right now ...

Although I would be happy not deleting sent messages newer than a month if the plugin could count them.

First of all - Great Thx to DKOT !
I have installed the 1.80 version out of the cab posted above.
Seems to work great. The only problem was, that I had too many
items in my todays elements. After deleting some unchecked ones (max. 13 - I heard) in the registry the plugin appeared. :)
The next step was to pimp the dll with an HEX-Editor.
Please forgive me DKOT.
But I wanted to have german translation! I hope not to bless your authorship when I post this version of your dll here.
Wouldn´t it be nice, if you create an ini-file where the country specific texts can be edited by everyone? Another wish of me would be, to place the transceive-bar a little bit to the left. On a full desktop and a level of 100 % the "%" disappeares under the scroll-bar.
The possibility to count the first minute and after that every second, has already been posted. But it would be worth to push the version to 2.00 immediatly
I hope you will find the time to develop some more features in this great tool.

Hi,
I started using DKToday yesterday and it is really great!
Now my problem is that my subscription (with italian 3G provider "3") includes 5 hours of outgoing calls, 5 hours of outgoing video-calls and 50 SMS per week. So now I have two questions:
-Is it possible to divide voice-calls and video-calls to have separate counters?
-Is it possible to restart counters every week (for me, counts start every sunday at 0:00)?
Thanks in advance.

Hey dkot,
I was just wondering whether you have made progress on the cell info display in DKToday. I'm running 1.80
I have subscribed to the 050 broadcast channel on my XDAMini, and every time the cell changes, I get a popup message with the details:
Msg From:
Info: Padstow Hts (the cell info)
but I don't get any cell info after the network name in DKToday
I also know there are XDA (NOT Mini users) who *can* get the cell info in DKToday and DON'T get the popup. They are using the same network provider as me.
Is there some registry entry or dll I need to copy over to make this work?

Hi Darek,
Newbie here. Great plugin you got.
Got some questions though.
Cell Broadcast - after installing DKToday, am I suppose to be still receiving the cell info sms? I'm getting them and it's kinda irritating.
In Line 1, it's suppose to show the operator followed by a "," and the cell info right? I don't seem to be able to get my operator displayed. I'm able to get the cell info. So my display will be something like this ",someplace"
*scratch head*

Hi Derek,
Thank you soooooooooooo much for your kind effort and willingness to share with us your hard work and such a useful software! :D I really love it and find it's so convenient to use even on my Dopod 818 pro. But I just find the following problems:
1. The SMS counter doesn't work on even I install the dorucenka.ARM.cab. Is it because I'm using WM5?
2. The missed call icon always in RED even if I return call to the caller, is it normal? Can it change back to normal after I've clicked on it?
Once again thank you very much for your kind help and I wish that you can help me on the above 2 problems!
