I've bought this software, but I'm a little unsure whether it works ok or not.

The today plug shows, amongst other things, minutes used that day. I noticed that after I received a call lasting around 5 - 6 mins, my daily total had increased by that figure. Surely if it was an incoming call then it should not have counted those 5 - 6. If I had initiated the call myself then I would understand.

Any thoughts / contradictions?

In the US on TMo you can type in '#646#' and press TALK, you will get a notification that pops up on your screen in about 2 seconds that tells you how many minutes you have used. I was just in Singapore on singtel and it worked there, give it a try and see if it works for you.

Check the config options - two things are confusing - 1. by default it includes incoming calls which is weird and 2 - it 'rounds' up minutes by default too (so 30secs appears as a full minute). Other than that it's great :)

There are some nice programs to track cell phone usage... however it is surprising that they all completely ignore another important part of cellular usage that affects the bill... SMS...

I havent seen any program that also counts how many SMSs you have sent/received. This is also a major factor because sending/receiving SMSs are not free.

Is there any program that does this as well? or maybe the existing programs ought to include this functionality in them.

I don't know of any software that does this but one way around it would be to save sent messages in your sent folder. All sms folders show the no of messages in there.

You can then empty this each month...

Probably not what you are looking for but it might do till someone writes some software for it.

Only one minor problem: My month starts on every 22nd (elements -> options). But it seems that the "monthly minute counter" resets to the 1st after each softreset. The 22nd is still shown in the options but on the today screen I see all minutes for the month.

I then go to the options and type in 22 again. After returning to the today screen I get the correct minutes.

When i click operator name, it will power off my XDA2.
Phone icon is too big.
When i set count 30 seconds, today screen is refreshed in 30 seconds interval. so if i run another program and then close it, i see garbage onscreen till next interval.

Excellent !

A very nice, useful piece of software that actually works and does what it says in the tin.

As others have said the only other 'feature' would be an options tab that allows users to set the date their month starts, and maybe reset the call timers.

But as it is, it's fine, and it's one of my must have today plugins !!

Frankly say, I'm not ready for sharing source code with someone else yet. I have to make a lot of change in this software before. It is still in experimental state. Maybe in near future.

Here is my Christmas gift for all of you (see attachment). This is new dll with my today. To install it uncheck my today and simple copy it to windows folder. That is version 1.6. I corrected Marcus's problem, changed options dialog view and moved 'ok' button.
I cannot prepare full cab file because I do it from my pda.

I have a pre-paid connection i.e. i buy a card fo X amount and enter the code and it recharges my account. If i want to find out what the balance is on my card i have to call a number and an automaic message tells me my balalce.

is it possible, and it would be GREAT, if a today plugin, ideally yours wuodl also somehow fetch the latest balance and update it on the today plugin?

this would be the coolest utility for me at least...

Darek I have a problem with your really helpfull program.

After 2 days of using it it works really great in calculating the time... but it causes my start menu to freeze! I have it in my Today screen... and when I press the Start button I see the menu appear but then I cannot press any program! If I unload the Today option and your program doesn't appear then everything works fine...

I removed it, waiting perhaps for the next bug free version... I'd really love to use it again... So if you can somve the problem plz do... :)

But what could do you this?? When you have free minutes... You want to use them as much as possible. If you speak for 1m and 2 seconds you want it to look like 2 minutes? And lose 58 seconds of call time? :?:

if you call for 1:01 min they will bill you 2 minutes

Proximus bills by the second, but a minimum of 1 minute per call
so if i call 15 sec => 1 minute, 59 sec => 1 min, 1:15 min => 1:15 min

I changed also call time counters service. Now today needs less processor power.

If you want to make a new version, please let the user the possibility to choose, which entrys are shown on today-screen. I don´t need the provider-name and the signal-strength in the today-screen.

Nevertheless it would be better to show the signal-strength in percent. Is this possible?

Perhaps it would be good to assign the options-menu to tap and hold?

As you can see from the start of this thread, I've been using Dashboard for quite a while now, but I think your appliaction is great - keep up the good work. I agree with markimark about options-menu and ability to choose display options.

Of course is possible showing signal strength as a number but my intention was to see it when I drive my car. As I see it, it is hard to see small number when you drive a car. That is why I did this this way.

I've been using phone dashboard for a while and I think I am switching to your tool.

Could you please add some more things:

1. I would need an option for 10 seconds rounding since German Telekom rounds my calls to 10 seconds. That is if I call 21 sec. they charge 30.

2.And Probably a predicted time tool that uses averages over the phone time and number of days this month until now to predict your monthly use.

3. an option to chose what to display on the today screen to make it more flexible.

I've also addes more fon icons. most of them are available in different sices like 16x16 and 32x32 also including the telefon which you used in 2 sices.

Dear Darek,

Tried your app again and no more repeat of the hard reset. A very nice and useful app it is proving to be. But seems there is a new problem. After a short while, the signal strength bar (and percentage) will become empty (or 0%). Then I need to remove and re-insert the plug-in into the today menu for it to work again, but once that happens, it doesn't register my calls anymore; thus the total usage per day and month are not accurate.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling you app, but still same problem. Note I am using SPB Pocket Plus, maybe it has something to do with it?

Hopefully you can find and fix this bug as I would really like to use this app.

This problem was raported me by someone else. I'm going to find this bug during weekend. When this problem occurs next time, please turn 'flight mode on' and after moment turn flight mode back off and check if signal indicator leaves empty.

I'm going to move forward with other things during this weekend too.

Here is small patch for ONLY those people who has a empty signal indicator problem.
When it will occur just tap in % sign. It should help. I'm waiting for any information how it works.

I did it this way, because I still don't know what is the nature of this bug. I think that it is relevant with any soft you have installed or internal radio stack working ( to get this information I have to ask RIL module about signal strength level). I've never seen this on my mda2.
Does anybody know in which situation indicator stops working ?

I have the same problem, which is mentioned above. It has nothing to do with spb pocket plus.
I never installed this program.
I recognized, that the program works ok when you go to options and than back to today-screen, untill you use the phone. After the first call, the problems mentioned begin.

Today I made more than 130 minutes phone calls. the program showed only 1h, 06m calls today and the same value the last month (I made more than six hours outgoing phone calls this month.

Something is going totally wrong!!

I scheduled performing more tests before publication this version but I'm still very busy and I don't know when it would be ready so here is the latest version dktoday. It's still tested so I can not take you for a granted that everything is alright but I hope.

Modyfication list:
1. more flexible outgoing calls round up - alexball asked for it
2. corrected 00 % signal strength bug
3. new method outgoing call counting - it should solve markimark problem but should take care that new call acounting cannot collect all old calls data, bacause phone log collects only last 20 calls so acounting for this month could be different then real.
4. corrected problem with missed "unknown" calls

I tried to add SMS counter. I made a lot of tests and I've had a bad news for you. RIL module doesn't report that SMS has been sent so there is no way to implement this functionality. Only soft which sends SMS knows that SMS was sent :(. RIL sends notification only for incoming SMS.

Instalation:
1. uncheck dktoday from today list
2. remove dktoday
3. check in windows folder for dktoday.dll. If still exist, remove it.
4. soft reset
5. install new cab
6. check it on today list
7. open options dialog and set-up dktoday's parameters

Darek I used your latest version. It runs more smoothly than the previous ones... Good job.

Still I have a small problem.I use the normal font and not the large one beacause my network is GR COSMOTE so when I use the large font the.... ...TE part of the name dissapears behind the signal meter. When I use the normal font, the laste letter of Cosmote the E is coonected almost with the signal bar...

Can you add the option to show or not show the Network name? Or if you have to show the network name... could you add a line break between the end of the network name and the signal bar?

I tested the new version yesterday and all worked perfect. No problems with signal-strength, no problems with counting of the call-duration, everything is working good the last day. Thank you very much!

Please take the alternative icon because of the height and width of the old icon.
Suggestion: it would be nice to give the option showing the new sms or emails too, similary to the missed calls.
And absolutely perfect it would be to add the function to go to the incoming mail-folder tapping on the entry and to go to the call-history tapping on the entry of missed calls.
And tap and hold opens the options-menu???

I try to do my best but your wish list is still longer and longer .... :) so I have to ask you for a help. What I need are small icons (16x16x256). I viewed icons I've got from alexball but I didn't find what I need.

Here is my wish list:
1. substitute for phone icon
2. substitute for phone icon with hand
3. icon for turning off screen
4. icon for settings
5. nicer signal strength icon or rather set of icons ( 4 elements)

Icons don't have to look like mine but as I see it, they should to associate with appropriate activity. It would be nice when all icons will be in the same style :lol:

When icons will be smaller then I will move network and signal left and it will be look better with larger font.

Everyone, I think we should each do whatever we can to help Darek in any way we can. I am not a programmer or designer myself so my ability to help will be limited but what I am going to do is talk to Juni... He is an excellent graphic designer and makes the most beautiful icons/skins for some of the best software I have used for PPCs. (Pocket Breeze, Weather Panel etc.)

Let's see if we can get him to make some nice icons for this wonderful piece of software.

Personally as far as my wish list goes, the one featuer that would be excellent for this plugin would be an SMS counter which counts SMSs sent.

There could be MANY other things but i dont want to overwhelm Darek :)
Ok I'm gonna mail Juni and try to get him to come to this post and say something.

You overestimate my possibility :). I know nothing about your network name. I get it directly from phone. RIL reports long and short operator name. What you see it is long name.

Hi Darek,

i've played a bit with your plugin... :o)), coz I was not satisfied with the icon size... :o))))
So here's the result.
However, there are few more things you might want to correct...
1. icon has no spacing on the left size
2. Text is indented a bit more than other plugins
3. There is a missing % sign on the right
4. The whole plugin is missing space indent from the line above it

Could you please fix those?
I can send you those small icons if you want them. I have the whole plugin with smaller icons ready as a .cab but i thought you night not be happy, if I will post it here... So if you say OK, I will post it here for download, otherwise...

Thanks for a great utility. I have followed all the development of this great program and have today installed the 1.69version i hv no doubt it will work great ( I have not made any calls since I upgraded to 1.69)

I also saw the long wish list by other members of the group.. Here is my wish list of improvements in this great utility... Hope u can do it.

1) Along with the time counter can we have the cost counter / calculator too.
2) Cost calculator with an option for home circle and while roaming.. ( the call cost differs a lot when roaming out side your home circle. )

But i am sure u can come up with some thing.

I am no software buff infact thats not my field at all so I cant help u much with programming ideas..however I felt - the way one has various modes option in PocketZone Phone.. u can device various modes like within home circle the incoming calls are not counted and while in the roaming u can set counter for incoming calls too both along with the cost.

I think in SBP GPRS meter the currency is picked up from regional settings and i am sure u can do that here too so that the cost is shown in currency of the respective country once call cost is set.


Guess its not too much to ask.. or am I..?

But i think if u can incorporate these .. this wud be just a hell of great progrm.

I scheduled performing more tests before publication this version but I'm still very busy and I don't know when it would be ready so here is the latest version dktoday. It's still tested so I can not take you for a granted that everything is alright but I hope.

Modyfication list:
1. more flexible outgoing calls round up - alexball asked for it
2. corrected 00 % signal strength bug
3. new method outgoing call counting - it should solve markimark problem but should take care that new call acounting cannot collect all old calls data, bacause phone log collects only last 20 calls so acounting for this month could be different then real.
4. corrected problem with missed "unknown" calls

I tried to add SMS counter. I made a lot of tests and I've had a bad news for you. RIL module doesn't report that SMS has been sent so there is no way to implement this functionality. Only soft which sends SMS knows that SMS was sent :(. RIL sends notification only for incoming SMS.

I have named the default string under Notification --> HKCU\Cotrol Panel\
and since then, every sent SMS, pops a message with envelope and sound and of course I could modify all this from the SOund Notification under Settings.
So with that, will you still find it hard to incorporate it?

Hey just following the whole conversation, this app looks great. Well done for all your hard work!

Just thought I would join the crowd and add in a feature request. I would like to keep track of how many mins worth of calls has been before 7pm and how many after, as I have 1000 free off peak mins a month. Not sure how you could add this without taking up too much room. Maybe an option to set off peak times and then an option to display only on/off peak mins, or just the total.

SMS counter would be great too, but I know that you are already working on it. Still, this is a fantastic app, I love it!

Here is new version dktoday - 1.70

Changes:
- added sent SMS counter
- added free of charge phone call list in options dialog
- text moved - now you can see all "signal" text :)

As I've already written SMS counter counts in fact SMS delivery notification so you must first turns it on. Without this it doesn't work.
Also, when you send long SMS ( it is send as 2 smss) your counter will be incremented only once so you should remember about this.

Free of charge phone calls - for example when you call your voice mail. This call in my operator is free of charge so it shouldn't be added to call time. You can define up to 20 free of charge numbers. Remember, that number is compared as is so don't add for example any space(s) before or after phone number.

Its different in my xda 2s because if i click flight mode on, it also switch on my wlan, and when i click off, it would also turn my wlan off...) it looks like you included the same dll as in version 1.70. The date, size and time is exact the same as in release 1.70

In my case changing the date still does not work. I keep getting the same call time when I set "1" or set "20".

Some other things:

When I send a SMS I get the envelop and the message that the SMS is send. The SMS counter does not increase with 1. I even configured SMS to ask for a send confirmation, but is still doesn't work. Can you tell met what I should change in my XDA to get this feature working.
(I also added the @="System Notification" in de registry.

Finally: Today I made an call for almost 10 minutes. Those 10 minutes were not added to the total time. When I asked the time in "Call History" it also said I had called for 00:00 minutes. Is it possible that this is caused by the dktoday program? (no critic, just to be sure). Other calls after that one registered correctly......

I'm using "Call history" to collect call information, so when you didn't see your calls in call history log, I didn't see it too. I don't think, that it occured because of dktoday.

sms motification patch applied on my jam and apparently active (box is checked) - but just not functioning (and therefore nothing on the sms counter). an o2 problem perhaps?

also, having problems with today screen corruption unless dktoday is moved to the top. other plugins, such as pocket weather, are overlayed with a second copy of dktoday. not a huge problem i guess, but i would still like to be able to change the order of today plugins.

Do you get notification, that SMS is delivered ? What is the title and who is sender this notification ? Do you see this notification as envelope or this is different icon?

Today screen corruption is probably related with other today plugin you have installed. I have this problem with for example OmegaOne Battery Pack or MBro Today Player. Try to uncheck your today plugins and leave only dktoday and embeded todays (inbox,calendar ... ). I'm almost sure, that then everything will be allright. I've already found this bug in dktoday and corrected it so version 1.69 and later shouldn't trigger screen corruption.

i get no notification for delivery, even though this is definitely selected on the sms option.

i have tried many times to rearrange plugins, disabling and re-enabling them. it happens in combination with several other plugins, but not the embedded ones, as you kind-of suggested. sometimes results in a crash recoverable with soft-reset. i tried again, disabling most thinks except dk, then enabled pocketweather, but corruption of pocketweater showing second version of dk. basically, if i have another plugin - pocketweather, batterytimeplus etc - above dk on the today screen it gets corrupted.
still, not a big deal :)

Same experience here w/ rosco1011. Installed the dorucenka filed before the latest dktoday and confirmed that sms notification is on. When i send out an sms, a small envelope appears on top and says "message sent". But the sms counter does not reflect it. Am running dktoday w/ spb pocketplus and scarybear quick calendar. No problems on their coexisting in the today screen.

I just thought of something. Dk, if you can port your program to the sent items function then its built in counter can be the one to set off your sms counter. Don't know if this is possible since i'm not a programmer. If you've noticed, the sent items folder already counts the number of sms sent. All you need to do is to put this counter or a representation of it in front.

My XDA2 is using the Asian 2.06 ROM from ZeroXtreme. The sms notification functions erratically. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt so its not a reliable basis for counting the sms sent. If only Darek can use the existing counters built into the sms inbox function, maybe this would be more effecient. But as I said earlier, i'm not a programmer so don't know if this is possible.

You assume that everybody uses Inbox to send SMS. It is not true. For example Phone Plus allows you to send SMS too.
Your assuming is as good as mine, that every network sends delivery notification :)
All my hope in notification. Is there anybody who uses other software for sms sending? I use Inbox too so I don't know if other software sends baloon notification too.

One is the standard balloon that appears on top of today and says "sms sent" then i get another one that comes from "admin" also saying that sms is sent. This last one is the one that triggers your sms counter and it appears in the inbox folder. Is this the one your referring to? Btw, your program is really cool. I've been using it for over a week now and its stable under any conditions. Great job Darek and thank you for your efforts.

I would like to post my wish list though :)

- The signal strengh thing seems strange - in my garage where the signal is marginal - it goes in and out of service, DK Today shows 1 red block and 38%!. When the phone goes out of service, the network name dissapears but it still shows a % (eg: still 38%).

- The free calls list is useful but is it possible to either support wildcards (so I can do 0800*) or change it so it only matches the 1st part of the phone number dialed - i.e if you enter 150, it only tries to mention this against the 1st 3 digits of the phone number you dial. If you dial 0800, it only matches this against the 1st 4 digits you dial. I want this because in the UK, the 0800, 0808 and 0500 dialing codes are free (on some networks anyway), so any calls starting with those numbers are free.

- The free calls list is a bit clunky - an add, delete and edit function would be more useful than the current way.

- This is a bigger thing but it would be really useful to get it so when you click on DK Today, you get a list of missed, dialed and received calls with the call time next to them - like Phone Dashboard.

- Like some others said - it would be goog to be able to configure what is displayed.

- It should be "missed calls", not "missing calls" - if the call has gone missing then you dont know about it anyway :-)

- GPRS data usage tracking :-)


And some other things I thought of you could implement somtime if you get time :)

- Peak and off-peak minute tracking

- Call cost counting - you tell it how many free minutes you get a month and when you run out of them, it automatically tells you how much you are costing in calls (you tell it your peak and off-peak call charges).


Derek - It would be good if you could comment on these and say whether they are possible or not - then at least we know if these will ever get added :)

I installed the patch on my QTEK 9090 and have the same 2 "sms sent" messages as bravo2zero. The "admin" indeed triggers the sms counter. And, it appears in the inbox afterwards as a "message delivered". Great.

I have had the same problem yesterday and also thought there was this was due to a sms notification problem of the software. Until I noticed this morning that this second bubble only appears if the "message is delivered", i.e. if the person receiving the sms message opens his sms inbox on his cellular phone/PDA phone. I tested it by sending a sms message from the QTEK 9090 to my SonyEriccson cellular phone. Ans the second bubble reappeared. As consequence, the counter starts working again too. I like this feature of "sms delivered", because with the first bubble you will only get a sms notification saying that the sms "has been sent", not that it has been actually "delivered". With the second bubble you kind of a way also now that it has been correctly delivered as well.

I think i've found a bug in DKToday.

It's been working fine for a few weeks but today is the 1st day of my new billing period. DKToday sucessfully rolled over to 0, but it seems to be stuck there!!

Today, i've sent a few sms (and got the read receipts for all of them) and made a few small calls - it's now showing:

Today: 0:01:05, Monthly: 0:00:00, SMS: 000

I noticed when I sent the 2nd sms, it went to SMS: 001 but when I cleared out the inbox, including the read receipt, it went back to SMS: 000 :(

Has anyone else had this problem?

Further to my last message - I just did some more tests.

It wasn't when I deleted the delivery reports. I just tried sending some more - the counter went up but then went back to 0 when I closed the mail application.

It must be something to do with the billing date - because this has been working right for weeks, until today which is the 19th - and i've got the 19th setup in DKToday's options.

1. "missing calls" changed to "missed call" :)
2. BT on/off - icon, by tapping on it you can simple turn on/off bt
3. new entry in options dialog "On call BT headset on"
When this feature is checked then
a. after first phone ring, BT module is turned on (when it was turned off before)
b. when you start dial number - BT is turned on

Bt is turned off after end of call and/or 60 seconds ( for unanswered calls)
To switch phone call on headset just press BT headset button (once or twice - it depends on you headset modell)

4. You can change update timer by adding HKLM\Software\DKToday\UpdateTimer - DWORD entry in ms (default value is 5000)

This is still beta version.

I just installed the 1.73 version and here are my concerns:

Part of the Today plugin keeps on blinking, these are:

1. the Signal meter and the signal percentage, and

2. the whole Missed Call line (the line between Network and Today)

I didn't encounter any blinking in the 1.71 version. Everything is fine in that build except the term "missing"

If I run DKToday with the "On call BT headset on" option enabled, the call is not transferred to the headset ( I assumed there's a conflict with the default Headset profile in the Today Screen so I unchecked this and the result is still the same) because although DKToday woke up the BT module, it doesn't enable the Bluetooth Headset Mode profile on the Today screen, thus the call remains on the phone. Also, right after a phone conversation DKToday doesn't just disable bluetooth but the bluetooth headset profile, as well.

4. If I use DKToday with the "On call BT headset on" option unticked, Bluetooth is always on (which wasn't the case when it's ticked because the app automatically disables bluetooth after finishing with a phone call.) And the calls are transferred to the headset

I also noticed that the SMS counter is not working properly during this mode.

I've tested BT auto option only on SE edition where headset is turned on automaticaly. I don't know how to turn on BT headset profile on no SE system.... Any advice ?

I will check why screen blinks now but I didn't change anything in this module except adding BT icon.

Ah, good - at least it's not just me. I assume it's the way it's detecting the roll over day - it's clearing the log out all day, instead of just once at the start of the day.


On your latest version - I have not tried it yet, but you seem to assume that the phone is always used on the bluetooth headset.

Can there not be an easy way to turn this feature on and off?

i.e - if i'm in my car, then it's a great feature so I can use my bluetooth headset without having bluetooth on all the time.

But, if i'm at home, work out outside, I want to use the phone itself, not the headset so I wouldn't want it to turn on bluetooth when the phone rung or when I made a call.

I currently use pocketzenphone to switch profiles to turn bluetooth on and off (and change the ringing etc).

It would be nice to have a button on the today plugin that enabled or disabled this feature so when i'm in the car, I can turn it on and when i'm out of the car I can turn it off.

I think i've found a bug in DKToday.

It's been working fine for a few weeks but today is the 1st day of my new billing period. DKToday sucessfully rolled over to 0, but it seems to be stuck there!!

Today, i've sent a few sms (and got the read receipts for all of them) and made a few small calls - it's now showing:

Today: 0:01:05, Monthly: 0:00:00, SMS: 000

I noticed when I sent the 2nd sms, it went to SMS: 001 but when I cleared out the inbox, including the read receipt, it went back to SMS: 000 :(

Has anyone else had this problem?

This is what I had been dreaming of for a long time.

SMS counter is great option and it works very fine for me on my device (must install Dorucenka SMS).

I installed v1.73 by replacing .dll, anyway after doing that you should sofe-reset once too.

I was usuing 1.69 till recently and was very happy with the utility. I have made some posts on the utility in the past.

However, a week ago I had to do hard Reset of my XDAII and subsequently I am unable to install 1.71 .

It shows up in "ADD and REMOVE Programs "but dose not show up in Today item slection list.. there is no mention of DKT in the item list of TODAY.

I tried removing and reinstalling the cab files several times but no luck !!

Can you help please .. what must be wrong..!!!!

For your reply. I dont know how but now it did work. Though I had less than 13 utilities in today screen it was not working earlier. I just did a hard reset once again and reloaded all that I needed including your DKToday. and its fine. Thanks.

1) The signal strenght % still goes out of screen even with smaller fonts.

2) The name of the Network company is not being shown. I get some number in Display. Is it the DKtoday function or that of the network ?

Yeah, but there is a bug where any calls you make (or sms sent) on the 9th itself will not count because it keeps getting reset all day.

My roll over dat is the 11th, cleared all my timers, very well done Derek! After making a call on roll-over day, the time does show up on my today counter, not on my monthly counter. This appears to be a bug that can be fixed by clearing the montlhy log on roll-over day only once, say at midnight. Perhaps this is a suggestion for next version?

1) Allow a auto redial in case the phone we are calling is busy.

2) May be also throw up options to contact alternate Number in case auto redial fails say after 3 tries or so...

What I am looking for is when Say I call a contact at his residence phone and thats busy will the software pick up contacts Mobile or Office no and give me an option to dial the same ...

I think while driving this will be a great application to have on our PPCs.

Do you get delivery notification message from your network? This is necessary condition for dktoday to count SMSes. In fact, dktoday counts delivery notification message so when you don't get it, dktoday doesn't count your SMSes.

Hey everybody,

Just read the whol Topic. This App is amazing!!! Darek, you're doing a great job!

If I may, I'd like to ask:
1. SMS: why does the App count the network notifications? My provider (and I guess, most of them) charge for all sent SMS messages. Not only delivered messages. Which means that I can send a message also to a non-existing number, which will never ever be delivered, but my provider charges me an SMS for that too.

2. Minutes: My provider gives me an amount of money to spend for calling or "SMS-ing" :) It's not a prepaid-phone-card, but a regular contract. So it would be great to decrement the monthly free "money" amount to show how much is left yet. Of course a cost-calculator is needed for this whole project also.

3. Costs: My provider has ca. 6 different minute-prices: they depend on peak, off-peak and weekend and they depend on in-the-own-provider-snetwork, into-other-mobile-networks or into-PSTN. Very confusing. However if DKToday can differentiate between free and non-free numbers, then maybe the option (already said by somebody) to check the called number, could help out. I.e. if the number starts with +3620 then it's cheaper if it starts with +3630 etc. And then of course both time (peak, off-peak) and day (workday, weekend) have to be taken into account.

I have all these thoughts because I just wanted to start my own App, when I checked here in the Forum and found this topic and Darek's great tool. I'll try to help both programming-wise and idea-wise. Of course if I can :lol:

I understand from the previous posts that RIL reports only incoming messages (is that the reason why the Status Reports have to be counted?), but what is the "first bubble?" The "SMS sent" bubble, which appears also then if no Status Report is asked for?

Somebodey asked for a free Re. Editor some posts ago. I use PHM Registry Editor. It's free and easy to use.

Also some many posts ago somebody mentioned some SMS messages to the Philippines. Now what are those? Because in my last month's bill I found 5 SMS meassages sent to the Philippines. All of them where sent within a couple minutes. And I am sure that I did not send any of them. I called my provider, but they kept saying: the messages were really sent out. Question: do the HTC phones send automatically and secretly messages to the Philippines?

Well, I didn't plan to talk only to myself :lol:
I didn't find the DWORD value UpdateTimer in the registry for DKToday. So I simply added it and gave the value 3600000 because for me it's enough if it updates itself only every hour.
Especially because I found that it really uses the battery. On a daily basis it counts 5-10% on my Blue Angel if DKToday is enabled. This is of course no problem, just a realiztaion.

I'm just working on wildcards feature to service free of charge calls better.
It would be nice to have builtin cost calculator for example for roaming calls but as I see it, it is hard to implement this. You watch on it from your perspective. You have to look on it from wilder perspective. For example when you make roaming call you don't know how it will be rounded so your calculation won't be precise anyway. I wanted to create only a simple
tool not any accounting system. I know, that all of you would be probably disappointed but this task is too huge for one people.
Recapitulation.I'm not able to add functionality which can make happy all of you because it is very complicated task and I also have to do something for a living ;). Sorry.

I myself don't use a BT headset, but after recommending DKToday on another forum, some people have mentioned experiencing problems with the BT option. I.e. DKToday turns BT on, however the connection to the headset isn't established.
Is this a specific problem, or a general thing, which can be solved by some settings? Or does DKToday work together with other BT profile manager programs, or they bother each other?

connecting with a BT headset needs aswell the option profile enabled
(start>settings>today>profile selected) and on the todayscreen enable the profile. It is often forgotten, only the BT is chosen.

Thanks for spending so much time and effort putting this application together. I'm a bit of a nit wit and am slightly confused. I found the link on page 1 which has obviously updated to v1.73, I've downloaded it to my machine and then transferred it to XDAII. I have tapped on the file and then done a soft reset. It seems to be there in that I now have a different look to my Today screen. I can't seem to get any options up to change settings such as bill date etc nor can I find the application anywhere on the XDA.

I can see mentioned add ons but there doesn't seem to be a link to them

HELP! Please accept my apologies if this has been asked and answered, I just can't see it anywhere.

Many thanks for this, I've now managed to change the day to the right one. All I need to do now is figure out how to reset the monthly timer to zero. It's installed itself and set to over 5 hours usage.

I'm having a small problem with it - my signal strength always reads 0%. I have a PPC-6600 (HTC Harrier). This is the CDMA version sold in the States by Sprint PCS and Verizon.

No one can get the signal strength to work. I also have Microsoft Voice Command installed and it properly reports the % signal strength, so at least one program is able to read the API. Is there something you can do to maybe fix the problem on our phones?

Also, I've seen several requests in this thread to allow the user to select whether or not to display the minutes used and SMS count. I'll add my vote to that - it would be great if the user could select an option NOT to display that third line of information. In fact, if the signal strength can't be fixed, I'd like to not display that line as well. In that case all that would show on the Today screen would be one line with Missed Calls. Possible?

I have no idea why signal strength is still 0 on your phone. I'm going to check once more how it works and what can cause this problem.
Microsoft probably know better then I how it works, that is why their product works correct :)
I'm going to allow user to select what should be displayed but I still don't have a time to make it. Maybe in a future....

I know a lot of folks use skins, etc and need the network, signal strength, etc indicators. Could you add options to show/hide those in the settings?

My CDMA phone shows 0% (same as an earlier person's post) but I am only interested in having that whole line go away as I use the SE default today screen with a theme.

Screen is turned off only when you tap on operator name field.
I added this feature to spare battery when I use my mda as mp3 player.
I've heard that there is a problem with signal strength on some deviceses.

I tried to install that application on my Qtek S100, and it works fine as today plug-in. But the Bluetooth switcher doesn't work. It switches on the bluetooth but it is impossible to answer with my wireless headset ( it rings but is not possible to answer by pressing the button ).
Then when I make a call the headset is not enabled.
I tried to hard reset the PDA and install DK Today only ( so the device was clear ). Same problem.
My bluetooth headset is a Logitech Mobile Freedom.

I have a request for an added feature but it might be asking too much. My US based provider provides free evening and weekend minutes. Would it be possible for you to provide user defined fields providing for which timeslots allow for free minutes and then either:
1. Display totals of just the Billable minutes we have to pay for or
2. Display 2 running totals, 1 total for "billable" and and 1 total for "free" minutes?

Hi Darek,

I have been using your program since the beginning and I find it very usefull. Thanks for your efforts! I do have the following problem however: after installing the latest version (1.76), my outgoing sms is counted twice. As soon as the delivery notification pops up, my sms counter adds 2 messages instead of 1. Of course I can just halve the message amount stated by DKToday, but I wonder if you could correct this issue. I am using a Compact, previous versions worked fine. Don'tknow what's changed in your app that could cause this? Are there more people with the same problem out there?

Im using the latest version and it has never counted SMS at all, only noticed it the other day.
Call counter works fine though.

I mainly use the software for showing me the signal strengh as my signal is usually very poor :(

not sure if this is another bug but ... when my signal drops (which it does often) the signal bar indicates that i am still reciving a signal, i think it just doesnt refresh what the last reported signal was.

Have read through the thread, your work here fantastic. I just got an Imate Jam and will be installing DKToday but was wondering, are you considering an option to show the current cell you are located in? I've searched and searched and can't find anything apart from the rather annoying SMS that you can turn on Cell Broadcast Channel 050. If there was anyway you could add the current cell you are in to your fantastic program would be great (and I'm sure you'd be the hero of everyone!)

You can also try Cell Profiler, that gives a pop-up once you enter another cell and you can enable phone profiles for for instance your home or work cells. Furthermore you can execute apps as soon as you enter a cell. Pro version is quite expensive, I think 20 US$ or so, basic version is free, but has somewhat limited functionality. The developer is active on XDA DEV, so use the search option here and search for Cell Profiler. But I would also love to have the option in DKToday, since extra functionality is always great!

First of all DKToday is a great utility and I'm eagar to have the next release

I'm a bit of overstrain about the real estate in the today screen, and in my personal taste DKToday uses more than it needs to. Since I'm no PPC programmer I had use Photoshop to mock the screen.

Compare to the original DKToday here:

2) The network operator's name got truncated (CHINA MOBILE)
3) A bit too many of texts :twisted:

1) Reduced to 2 lines
2) Since I already got a singal strenght bar in the title bar, I think the singal bar in DKToday is a bit redundant unless it provide more scale. So I removed it here as well. The percentage of the strength is moved to the bottom of "telephone" icon.
3) Relocate the placements and change some texts to icons, hence more spaces available and cleaner.

Anyway... I hope you will think it useful and incoperate it into the next version. 8) 8)

How do you actually set it up?

I downloaded and unzipped to folder then copied to my storage card but if i click on either icon it says it is not recognised.
I assume i need to put the files somewhere like the programe folder but not sure and dont want to do it wrong.

Here is a new DKToday

Changes:
1. displaying current cell information. Cell information is displayed after operator name.To get this information from network, you need to turn this feature on according to mitty's post
2. wildcards on free calls list. Use sign "-" as wildcard. For example, when you enter number 0800- on free calls list, then all numbers started by 0800........ will be treated as free of charge calls
3. added back BT turn on/off feature
4. long awaited ability to select which information, should be displayed on your today screen. Now, you can select, which line should be displayed on your screen. BT icon belongs to line 3, PHONE ICON belongs to line 2.
5. Because of points 1..4 I had to rearange dktoday view. I hope this new one will be acceptable by you :)

Hi Darek, yep I deleted dktoday.dll from Windows folder and then reinstalled. Got V 1.79.

I've turned on Cell Broadcast channel 050 again, but it doesn't show on the plugin. I've got the name of my operator, Telstra Mobilenet and a comma after it, but then it's blank. I'm assuming this is where the cell info should appear?

To all those who message me, what you need to do to switch channel 050 on is:
go to settings
phone
more
tick broadcast channels
tap settings
i ticked "receive channel list" though have no idea if this matters.
selected english
clicked new
gave it a name (I just said cell info, i don't think it matters what you call it)
channel number 050.

Normally once you do this, you'll get pop up sms's each time your cell changes. Darek has said he will get this info into the plugin and the sms will no longer appear.

Darek, let me know if you need to do more testing. Is it working for you?

Yes, information about cell is placed after operator name and comma sign, but to show it I have to get cell information from network.
Do you get SMSes with cell information from your network ? DKToday is processing those smses to get and show cell information.

Possible problem with latest version, though it might be the Radio Stack version that I'm using ...

The display (1st line) indicates that I have (for example) 55% on the signal strength, yet the operator name appears to randomly display O2 - UK and just a , (comma) - almost as if the network has gone.

You had any other reports yet ?

Yep with channel 050 turned on I get pop up SMS's ever now and again with the current cell name. Could it be something to do with the fact that I'm obviously on a different network to you? Is it channel 050 anywhere you go?

At least now I know I have the right settings, although in the broadcast settings, the channel number shows 50 although I put in 050. Nothing visible in DKToday, although I switch the phone on and off. perhaps it will work when I change cells, but I am not able to do so now. later today I will be travelling, so perhaps then I'll see changes. I'll be back sunday, so I'll post my results then.

I think there are some different issues with the diferent models, i have an XDA 2i and the SMS counter doesnt work correctly, also the bluetooth switch doesnt work either.
I havnt tried the Cell broadcast function yet.

handle cell broadcast... i've tried to subscribe to the 050 channel, and
i don't get any message indicating cell change :-( Are there other french

For those unsure of if your operator sends out cell broadcast or not, check with a friend who has a Nokia or something like that. Nokia usually has a cell broadcast option which you can turn on and works pretty well. If they are on the same network as you and they get cell info, then you should as well once you follow the process i outlined above.

I've spent last few days on testing why you don't get cell information in dktoday nevertheless that you get notification in outlook. I found, here in Poland network where this occurs too.
What I found is that Dktoday doesn't report cell infos, because there is no any rill information, that cell has changed. I have no idea how outlook gets this information from network to show it you (directly from gsm modem?).
In normal situation (in my network), when cell has changed I always get specific sms with new cell.
Here nothing like this not happens. I have no idea where to go forward with this...
