I need to know if I can use an XDA to collect data from an rs232 output device into an XL spreadsheet.
I'm collecting field data in a remote wilderness location using an Avenger digital caliper with rs232 output to collect hundreds of measurements. Being able to log these directly to an XDA would be a great bonus.
I've read the posts about serial connectors for GPS devices and realise that I can feed data to the device, but is there software that will let me capture readings and input them to an XL spreadsheet (running on the XDA)?
As a note, I found an interesting supplier here
http://pc-mobile.net/pdaserial.htm
for a whole range of connectors and cables and what looks like a AA battery pack that they suggest will act as an extra power supply if used with 4 NiH batteries.
Any help or comments?
