Hi,
i use the sandisk sd256mb+wifi and it works very well.

It was mentioned everywhere that new drivers from Sandisk are required?
Did you install any additional software to make it work?

If yes, can you post a copy here?

If not, perhaps you can let me know what's in-store in your ExtROM?

Many thanks! You help will benefit many who are on the Blue Angel, Himalaya devices.

atm there is only one card that supports both features (storage and wifi); that is the Sandisk (http://www.sandisk.com/retail/256mb-wifi-sd.asp) card..only available in 256mb. To get this card working, you need the latest Sandisk drivers but as far as I understand these drivers are not available for Pocket PC Mobile Edition.

Some other thing to keep in mind; the sd wifi card does not completely fit in the compact and leaves a small antenna sticking out which could be damaged when in your pants. When the wifi card is inserted, the battery life is also considerably shorter.

Not true. The Magician has a working version. Seems buggy (on and off Storage Card), but working.

I've tried it on my friend's Mini device. It uses the PegasSDN.dll (multi-funciton SDIO driver supplied by Sychip) supplied by the Sandisk drivers, and the ROM's SDBusDriver.dll (SDIO version 1.2.0.0) to recognize the Storage. The wifi drivers is supplied by Sandisk under other Pegas*.dlls (though I suspect these are from Sychip as well).

I've tried the porting. I got the Wifi working great by a port of the SDBusDriver.dll from the Mini. However, it wouldn't work with PegasSDN to recognise the storage, pity. My inclination at this moment is to believe 02 and sandisk, that is, the SDIO chip on the XDA2 is either insufficiently wired, or of an incompatible older version. No clue there, since I'm not into SDIO hardware.

According to iMateclub's support, the newer ROM version of JAM soon to be released, will totally solve the compatibility problems between iMate JAM and Sandisk WiFi+256MB SD card.

Great to see such proactive vendor, wish I can say the same for 02. Perhaps all the phone distributors should outsourced the ROM, RAM and drivers upgrade to a 3rd party service provider.

Sandisk's combo wifi + 256MB card did work quite well on my Jam using the latest drivers from Sandisk's website.

However I realised after a few days that the Sandisk's drivers have heavily messed-up the OS. In fact I was getting lots of strange soft resets, plus many third-party software utilities would not work. Strange behaviour with the bluetooth also appeared, not accepting a hands-free connection after switching off and on again.
The bluetooth icon from time to time would disapear, and the today page showed great refreshing problems (even if the order field in the registry was OK), and so on. At some point also the call volume using the headset became too law, even though music from Windows Media was high...

After hard resetting twice, each time re-installing all the sw one-by-one, and always getting the same behaviour, I then decided to hard-reset and not re-install anymore the Sandisk drivers. Now everything works really well, and the Jam is very reliable from all points of view.

My learning here is that the Sandisk combo card IS NOT compatible with the Jam, or at least its drivers are not. At a quick look, everything works, but the OS gets badly messed-up forcing some strange behaviours which take a few days before noticing.
Sandisk by the way DOES NOT claim compatibility with Windows Mobile 2003 SE, but only with Windows Mobile 2003 (no SE).
I-Mate's statement that there will be a ROM upgrade to solve these issues partially confirms what I say, even though I am more inclined to think that the problem resides in Sandisk's drivers too.

Any other experience?

Hi,

I've got a Blue Angle (Telecom Harrier) and just bought the SanDisk WiFi + 256MB to try out.

I used fresh drivers from sandisk.com, rather than the CD that it came with.

It prompts me to format the storage on the card (which doesn't sit very well in the slot, often not registering or "falling out"!), but never completes this task. While it's trying to do this, the device becomes very unstable.

I've had the WiFi work a few times, but it's very unreliable. Some times I pop the card in and it spots the local networks, other times it spots nothing... Often I try to configure the card and it complains that it can't find it!

I've got a request logged with SanDisk and I'm about to log one with the Telco... Fingers crossed that I can get this sorted ASAP, or at least prove it doesn't work, then I can return the card under warantee.

Later'ish

Same problem!!
Maybe we should upgrade ROM??

Got the official response from SanDisk today.

They don't support the HTC Harrier and they don't support Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition.

So I'm going to return my 256MB + WiFi card and find another brand that is known to work at least with Mobile 2003SE.

Sandisk not upgrading their driver since june 2004.

Buy a 256 + wifi SD few days ago, the driver in the CD come with the unit is the same as on their website.

And they put on the CD, we should visit their website since they regularly update their software. What a liar!!!

Best regards,

My Qtek S100 worked very well with Sandisk WiFi-256MB..............but after I upgraded to the new ROM I have experienced som strange problem. The card installs allright and I can connect to my network but when I access Pocket Internet Explorer to find a website my Qtek connects to GPRS not to the WiFi-card.

Before the update I didn't have that kind of problem!

I have the same problem.
The card installs allright and I can connect to my (802.11g) network but when I access Pocket Internet Explorer to find a website my Qtek connects to GPRS not to the WiFi-card.
When I connect to Internet through my neighbour network (802.11b) I have no problem at all.
My Linksys router setting is mixed mode.
My ROM version: 1.0300 WWE
ROM date: 11/01/04
Radio version: 1.01.00
Protocol version: 1337.38
ExtROM version: 1.03.148

All suggestions that might help me with this issue, are welcome.

Ana

Does anybody know whether this works with the XDA mini ?
I heard somewhere that the XDA mini (magician) doesn't support SDIO.
Is that true ?

Which SDIO Wifi card is the best to be used then ? I was wondering which alternitives there are !?

I'm currently waiting for the i-mate update. Before that I won't buy a Wifi card. So let's wait a few weeks and try again installing everything (and without the drivers from Sandisk ofcourse) !!

Kind regards,

R.

The SanDisk 256+WiFi Card works pretty well on my JAM (Magician). I downloaded the latest drivers off of the SanDisk site and installed them and was associated with my access point in less than 20 minutes.

It does mean using the painfully bad wireless zero config but you can download third party tools to help with that too.

So is the sandisk 256 + wifi working with the qtek 2020 with wm 2003 or not? I have read that it doesn't but other places say it does so before I get one I'd sure like to know for sure.

I have exactly the same feeling about this combo card. My handsfree car set worked flawlessly for 5 days and now I have to restart the pairing procedure every time I step into my car. BT is completely messed up and sometimes my WIFI is preffered over gprs (as it should be reducing my gprs costs), sometimes not. When too many prgms have stayed open and I insert the card the drivers do not load and the wifi card is not recognized. Even the utilprgm from SanDisk doesn't work at that time. Closing all prgm and freeing up ram solves the problem, but it's very annoying.

Can anyone in Asia confirm about Sandisk's Wifi + 256MB SDIO able to work with the O2 mini?

I just got my O2 mini.... so its still Factory's Firmware... if not compatible...do I need to upgrade the firmware?

Which firmware is stable to work with Sandisk's Wifi + 256MB SDIO?

Thanks.

Does it really have to show? Does it really stick out the slot?

chumkila

Yes it does stick out of the slot although mine is not as bad as that photo. It only sticks out as much as the square sticker. I can live with it.

It also does not use as much battery life as I was lead to believe. :)

I'm using this card on my jam too. i'm just wondering what kind of speed you guys are getting out of it. for mine, i can only get about 50kilobytes/sec which is pretty slow, just browsing the local network will freeze up my file browser. maybe i'm expecting too much but still it'll be good if i can do more than just browsing web.

that's great, thanks for the help.
I actually used it with my home router which is a linksys and a netgear one at work. both gave me the same result. besides the slowness, there is no other problem at all, it scans and connects very quickly, and ping time is as good as any other machine on the lan. but when i start to transfer a file from network share, i can see from the load meter on my pc that 50k is the max it can go. i don't know whether the 128k wep affects the speed at all, i can't test that because i have ppl connecting to me all day long, if i change wep setting, they'll be stuffed and angry hehe. i really don't think that's the problem though.

The Computer Devices Wi-Fi SD surpasses the SanDisk Wi-Fi SD card hands down in terms of:
Antenna size (almost half the size)
Wi-Fi transfer speed (almost twice as fast)
Power consumption (use 40% lesser power)
Compatibility (guaranteed to work with all PocketPC 2003 & above)
