Using Pocket Mechanic I'm told to format the card using either NTFS or FAT - which one should I use if the PC is XP NTFS? Thanks.

both would do
but if you put it in the in a windows 9X computer it would not
be able to read the ntfs formattet card

formatting influences the card performance.
For compatibility I would advice FAT32
For bigger (read) speed I would advice a cluster size of at least 2048
In my experience ie. TomTom naviigator (extensive reading of SD) perfoms best.
For best hardware compatibility, stick to Toshiba, Panasonic (both Japan made) or Lexar (US made) cards, see also another thread from me on that subject)
