There is two fixes for the JAM...:
First one to fix MMS problems (Unable to send & receive)... See attached file...

The second one is Photo quality enhancement ROM upgrade... find it here...:
http://www.seeo2.com/support/XdaIImini/template/ServiceMenu.vm

I hope somebody can upload it for us here cause we need IMEI for XDAmini devices...

I would like to test the Photo quality enhancement ROM upgrade on my MGA compact.

But i cannot get it (o2 IMEI needed!)

Anyone, please?

It seems the new extended rom included a patch file which will increase the default sharpness of the camera program.

The default sharpness setting is 10 now.

The attached file is the patch extract from the new extended rom.

I have tried the Photo Enhancement ROM, it made my O2 XDA MINI pictures worst...pictures got many white spots! Now, I dont know what to do.

Eiso the upgrade works fine with my MDA Compact so do not terrorize other MDA users with your problem! Your problem most probably has to do with a fawlty camera! Try to check with the service from where you bought it!
Photos are much better especially in low lighting conditions now!

I think this must be specific to certain ROMs. My ROM 1.0.3.00 WWE with Middle East extensions (Arabizer etc etc) and this update completely messed up my Today screen with zig zag horizontal lines. Had to perform hard reset.

Seem not to work on my german t-mobile MDA compact, ROM 1.01.01 GER.

Same prob as cdx47 mentions (messing up today screen, easy to solve, just change today theme)

and

no visible changes in camera results, no changes in default sharpness value.

Does it really give better pics with other ROM versions?

You dont have to hard reset! That thing happens even if you restore a sprite backup too! You only have to change the theme to another one and then again to the one you want and everything will be ok!
More than that you need 2 files from the o2XDA mini exntended rom to fully install the upgrade. You will find the whole extended ROM of o2's XDA mini at the FTP server! I am using the imate arabizer ROM too and it works fine with my German MDA Compact!

What does this camera patch/upgrade do? Does it just increase the default sharpness level?

ammar

I have downloaded the 2 patches for camera from XDA mini ROM which are:
1- CameraWizard_O2Asia_Customize.CAB
2- CameraWizard_WWE_B19_to_RC14.CAB

the first one is about 58KB only and it has nothing to do with improving the photo quality, it is only to adjust the capture size when taking contact Photo.

the second file which is about 746KB contain same camera version 2.7 but newer build, but when i installed it i have lost all the colors and i stuck with gray scale photos only.

it seems this file will not work on all ROM version! for me, i am using original imate JAM ROM. other users with MDA devices don't have any problems with this file!

I just can't get the MMS functionality to work on my Qtek S100! :?
When trying to send/recieve it connects to the operator (Vodafone) but after that nothing happens. I can also see the small yellow sending icon at the top of the screen but still nothing happens. I'm quite sure I have set upp MMS correctly (with information from the Vodafone web site).
I also installed the MMS fix (posted on this thread) but it still doesn't work.

Anyone else having problems with sending/recieving MMS:es?

Thanx!

Hi,

Anyone tried this MMS-patch on a QTek S100? I tried to get MMS work on a S100, but it doesn't work to receive MMS-messages...

I know there is a new ROM available, but does anyone has the patch for MMS out of that ROM?

I presume this was on the today screen.

If it was, then usually the best way to fix that is to change the today theme to another one and then back again. This often fixes that issue.

The same thing happens if I restore a sprite backup.

First of all DO NOT flash your ROM with any ROM made by imate or qtek! T-Mobile's English ROM is by far the most stable ROM up to now! When I was using T-Mobile's English ROM my Compact never needed a single reset! Believe me it was the most stable PocketPC I ever had on my hands! After flashing it with iMate's ROM I had many crashes and program incompatibilities! So I used iMates ROM to upgrade the radio ROM and then flashed it with T-Mobile's English OS ROM and now my MDA Compact works like a dream! You may try newer versions of Camera's software so you get the extra adjustments but the rest of the ROM of your Enlgish T-Mobile seems to be the best of all! I hope iMate will make things up as soon as they release the newest ROM they promised it will fix the sound quality problems! One more thing I noticed ALL T-Mobile MDA Compact owners seems to be much more pleased with the quality of the sound! It look like after HTC made those MDA Compacts it got some fawlty speakers!

From my experience with a XDAII mini.
Before Patching - it was just bad quality.
After Jam patching - still bad quality with white spot noises
After ClubiMate patching - still bad quality, but faster shutter and better color

yes man it seems that our cameras has low light limitation! for me i use the night mode for indoor pictures only! i think they should rename it to "Indoor Mode" rather than "Night" as it is totaly not effective at night.

Hi
I've installed cam patch on my S100 and these are 4 pics copareing before and after patch installation. I dare to say I can't see any improvment but the color tonality, warmer after patching but not calibrate, and more contrast.

Thanks for sharing these pics, its very well done and I am assuming that the camera adjustments of the 4 pics are the same throughout.

From the looks of the 4 photos. I feel that the quality is still way below anything acceptable. I am saying that because I am using a Pentax Optio S at the same resolution that produces superb image in any lightings. I can only use the cam in the mini for snapping near subject photos and I can forget about quality of pics.

Interestingly for my version of XDA II mini.
I had custom started my EXT rom apps so my camera is the native without patching and here are the results.

What I am trying to establish is:

1. The photo was taken with a few seconds of fixed bracketing on the subjects.
2. The camera adjustments are all defaulted to reset.
2. How does it compared to everyone else cam quality?

Optio S is a 3MP camera with CCD sensor. The Jam is 1.3MP - tiny CMOS sensor. You SHOULD have difference in pic quality.

BTW the Optio is is not all that great in dark conditions either. I used to own the Optio S4 myself, so I know.

Hey Skagen, you're totally right. The XDA camera is not comparable to it's competitors as well. Take a look at the pic taken with another 1MP camera(samsung I think) . See the big difference.

Not saying the XDA/Jam has a great camera. I too think its somewhat worse than Nokia 6630 etc. But to compare it to a 3MP CCD digicam is not a correct comparson.

Besides even that pic there above, when I clicked on it it was fuzzy. Its a 1.3MP picture - what more can you really expect? Any 1.3MP camera is gonna be fuzzy and limited in capability. Have we all already forgotten what awful pictures we had when all digicams were VGA and or 1.3MP CMOS toys?

Well, same story here with phones using those same equipment. These phone cameras are all toy cameras. When every typical phone has at least 3MP CCD, then we might perhaps begin to be able to discuss discernible and material differences in "quality of picture" with a straight face...

I agree that everyone expectations of the integrated device is somewhat difference and we all seek for improvement if there are ways to get there.

Being a XDA I(no cam), XDA II and XDA II mini owner, I feel that the camera got worse than before. However I wondered how the IIs and IIi series fairing on the camera performance.

Yes, compairing this with a CCD may not be too fair but I was compairing on the same Pixel depth. Remember, CMOS has gone a long way since the early days and some Professional cams uses CMOS than CCD.
I'm a rather avid photographer with a series of cameras and one is a VGA CMOS two button cam which shoots better pics than the mini. What I was trying to find out is how to make the best of the cam which will not produce poor images.

As some on above said also this is not a camera, it does many other things and camera fucntion is more or less a gimmick. So you can assume that the lens and sensor are probably pretty cheap too. There is only so much one should honsest expect.

I think time will improve the quality of components available for X-price point, as it always does with technology. But there's probablly little point in stressing about the camera in this thing.

well, it seems that not only I have this blue circle problem, I now know of at least 3 ppl that have this problem. Since most of you are not complaining about this, i think all 3 of us have lemons from maybe the same shipment. As for the camera fix, I think programs like spb imageer fixes a lot of it w/ auto contrast and color, which is just what a patch might do anyways. What I really don't like are the white dots that come up in low light situations, you can't really fix that w/ anything afterwards.

Too bad this phone is selling so well, otherwise O2 or whoever else would really try to improve it to raise sales >.<
